Gentelman named Timothy called me and said I needed to talk to someone regarding my dept and to press number one then hung up.  They have called me several times and are really starting to bother me.  I told them they have been reported to state police and they have not called back since.

When they call again, demand the validation letter and further inform them that under Federal Law the 5 day window to send it to you started the day of the first call.  If they mention trial again ask them if they can handle "discovery".  You can also tell them that threatening to have you arrested over a debt is a criminal act under the FDCPA.  Keep logs of all calls received, dates, times, name of person you spoke to and what the caller stated and what you stated to them. By law if you speak with them they are only allowed to call once per day. Do not acknowledge the debt without the validation letter but be aware that if you receive one you have 30 days to dispute the debt in writing.  Go to this link and review your rights and what debt collectors are required to do and what they cannot do.

No, they don't:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Debt Collector
Received several calls from this number.  When I called back the person answering said "legal outsourcing".  They told me that if I did not settle today then I could expect to go to trial.  When I said that I wanted proof of the debt or validation mailed to me via USPS he said it again about paying now or expect to be arrested.  They would give me validation at the trial.  I also received the call at work and from another number located in Houston, TX to my daughter's phone number.  Same story with them.  You do not have to pay them, they don't have the right to threaten anyone or have you arrested.

Received a call from this number today.  I did not answer and they did leave a message.  It was pre-recorded and started before my voicemail recording began.  All I got was "arbitration."

If they called, first DEMAND a VALIDATION of the "debt".  Find out "WHO" it is, "WHERE" they are located, "WHEN" it was incurred.  Tell them you want proof that they are licensed in whatever state or Provence, or country where you reside.

ASK where they are located.  If they don't tell you, HANG UP.  If you have caller ID, try to figure out where they are calling from, since that's really your best bet.

If they threaten, tell them they are violating section 813 of the FDCPA.  That's the actual number.

Don't get taken.  That's the BIG thing.
