this is Empire State Recovery, they are a collection agency.  they will use scare tactics to try & recover money owed.  do not let them scare you.  they will say they are investigators & have a case with you listed as the complainant.  THEY CANNOT ARREST YOU!!  the only debts you can be locked up for are taxes, child support, that type.  defaulted loans or lines of credit will not get you in jail.  even check/cash advance places cannot lock you up if your check bounces!  ask anyone else in finance, i have been in this business for 9 years.  yes they can file with their local magistrate, but again, this just goes as a judgement on your credit.  no jail time!  so tell these bottom feeding professional panhandlers what they can do with their "lawsuit".  whoever said they got served & their wages are being garnished is likely a rep for the company trying to bullcrap you some more.  they have access to these sites just like we do!

Hello, I keep getting calls from this number, as does my family. I called back and it says they are ESR??? They told me and my parents that they were having me arrested for "BANK FRAUD" and that they issued a warrent for my arrest. They also left a voice mail from a woman who said, "she was an investigator, calling to have me arrested for an arrest warrant her company issued". WTF? Who do these people think they are. The bad thing is, I don't live with my parents, I am 30yrs old and I have never heard of the debt/credit card they say they are collecting on. How do these loosers sleep at night, let alone get away with doing this. What can I do to get them to stop calling me and more importantly, my parents? I have contacted an lawyer and I am going to sue ESR. I don't know what else to do?

They called my house saying that "someone had filed a complaint" in their office against my wife.  I picked up the phone from the machine and the guy couldn't even pull up any information on his computer, which had suddenly gone "down".  He sounded like about a thirty year old African American gentleman.  He switched me to a younger-sounding African American woman.  Neither identified themselves.  I got a shady vibe so I instructed them that any further correspondence between myself and them was to be conducted only through the US mail and to never bother my family again.  That was yesterday... we'll see.

Well let me share my phone call with these crooks - First of all, "Inspector Alonzo" calls and leaves a message with my 12 year old son, saying "You better tell you Dad or Step-Dad that he is being fully investigated and unless he wants the police there he better call me tonight" - What kind of S***bag is this Alonzo?  I want someone at ESR to get in this forum and answer the question!  I know the rules of collection agencies and this is against the law.  I called back, gave my "case number" and said "You talked to a 12 year old - how dare you - now I'm not saying anything else but you need to send proof via mail" - and I hung up. They have never sent nothing by mail.  They are s***bags - Just like all collection agents - they are hired for thier b*tchy and C*nty attitudes - I was pulling cables one day at Payco America when it existed back in Edison NJ - and I was in the office of one of the Managers and a supervisor came in and said that they had someone on the phone and had them "all worked up" and needed a push - He said "Give it to Christine, that c*nt know how to get the job done.  Nice talk about your employees.  Collection agencies are the scum of the earth.  Know your rights - don't deal with them

They just called my mother's house and spoke to my 14 year old sister.  She called me all freaked out because an "officer" called looking for me.  I haven't lived with my mother since I was 14 years old.  She and I don't have the same last name.  I have never, ever used her as a reference on any kind of application.  I have very old debt that should have fallen off of my record, and nothing else.  I have no idea how they would have gotten her phone number.  Thanks for scaring my sister, scumbags.

I received a call from these people a couple of weeks ago... As soon as I answered my cell phone, my battery went dead. (No idea how they got my number in the first place, the phone isn't even in my name).
After plugging in my phone, I discovered a voice-mail saying simply that I would be arrested within 24 hours.  Completely shocked, I called the number back and got Ms. Leslie Clark on the other end. She told me that I had an unpaid debt for a visa card for 2000 dollars.
I tried to explain to her that my ex-wife was supposed to have paid the card off.
(Back in 1999-2000, I found that my ex had been using my card at ATMS and using the cash for dates to cheat on me....the card WAS in my name, but we divorced, and she said that she would pay it off. Since then, my ex disappeared to the other side of the country and re-married...I don't even know what state she lives in now or what her last name is.)
While trying to get those few sentences out over the phone, Ms. Clark interrupted me every time I opened my mouth. After finally explaining to her that the news that I still had a debt was 'NEWS' to me....Ms. Clark called me a lowlife and said that it was no wonder my ex had cheated on me, that my 'file' was in a stack for immediate litigation and that I would be dragged from my house in handcuffs the next morning if I did not give her my check or bank information. I told her that I would like to make a couple of phone calls for information, and asked if I could get back to her the same evening, and she refused, saying basically it was now or never...either give up my info immediately or go straight to jail.
These people scared the living hell out of me, and told me that they would be taking 85 dollars per month for the next 30 months or so out of my account starting next month.
After reading all these posts here, though...I am canceling my bank account tomorrow and am going to block their number from my phone.

For anyone trying to collect an old debt, they may be barred from suing you due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.  For example, in NY its 6 years.  Therefore, if the last payment you made on an old debt was over 6 years ago, just tell them nice try but they'll get their butts thrown out of court if they try to sue.  The best defense against these morons is a little  information.

Note, however, if you make even the smallest payment at any time during that 6 years, the statutory time starts all over again.  Also note that although you cannot be sued beyond what the statute of limitations provides, if the debt is yours - it remains a debt and may remain on your credit.  You just can't be sued.

I have a house phone for an emergency line. Never gets used. Earlier, a "Leslie Clarke" who identified herself as an investigator called the number looking for my boyfriend's ex-wife. She said that the ex gave this number, MY NUMBER, as a contact number. We found out this was a lie, along with every other word she uttered.  I am not exactly sure how these people got MY NUMBER, but I sure don't appreciate it. The ex did get in contact with them, so they shouldn't bother me anymore, but it absolutely infuriates me to NO END that these people called my home looking for my boyfriend's ex!

I was called today and left a voice mail threatening to get an arrest warrant against me. I have it saved to voice mail so the employee of ESR who said their company does not do this is wrong. Perhaps that employee does not but others do. I am being contacted about a debt for a Discover card that was obtained by my ex-husband in my name while we were still married. I spoke with "inspector Allen" who when asked if she was threatening to have me arrested transferred me to one of the "attorneys". Although this attorney gave me her name I did not have anything to write it down with and do not remember the name. When I asked her if she was threatening to have me arrested she said yes - Sherriff, handcuffs, jail and all. When I pointed out that a person cannot be arrested for a past due debt she told me that Discover card is pursuing me for bank fraud. I will be contacting an attorney tomorrow to have this matter handled in court, not only do I not have to pay for this debt I do not owe but I can also file litigation and seek damages for the threat.
By the way - I called Discover card and they wrote off and sold this account in May of 2001 and are not pursuing me for bank fraud.
