I keep getting calls from Grant Edwards at NRS, National Recovery Service.  I keep telling this jerk that I have no information on the person he is looking for.  He is some one that I would like to bi***-slap for his attitude.  I have told him  time and time again not to call me back.  It's how harassment!!!!

Sorry works for a junk debt buyer, who buys debts way beyond the statute of limitations, discharged in bankruptcy or otherwise uncollectible and tries to scare people into paying them. A JDB may pay as little as one-half cent on the dollar and highly inflate the amount for profit. Sorry's story is about as true as the story about the moon being made out of cream cheese.

I got a toll free number now for these clowns.  It's 866-450-5702.  I believe it costs them each time that number is called.  I left a message for Timothy Peters on the main number voice mail.  He kept calling me saying that he wanted to have a sexual relationship with my dog.  My message stated that my dog is a nice dog and I didn't appreciate his desires toward it.

I started getting calls from this number in August 07. After about 3 or 4 calls, they started calling my mother, and brother. I called back a phone number they left with my brother, and I found out they were calling me over a past due credit card, a couple of years old. I was upset and hung up the phone. They continued to call me for about 2 more weeks, and sent 2 letters in the mail. The first was a settlement offer, which I tossed right in the trash. the second was a letter saying they could take me to court if I didnt pay. I also tossed that letter as well.

I wish I wouldnt have done that. It turns out that this company purchased my old account from the bank(Providian). I didnt even know they could do this. They own all legal rights to it, and the overdue balance is owed directly to them. They had me served with a summons when I was at work, I almost lost my job. I couldnt believe that they could do this. I contacted a Lawer and he wanted $150 just to talk  to him, and another $800 down if he took the case. He told me i was better off paying the bill and being done with it. I still didnt believe they could take me to court over a credit card. After talking to some friends and family, I decided to call this company back and try to settle this bill. They told me I could no longer settle this account, I had to pay the full balance($2500) with certified funds, or I would have to go to court. They ended up hanging up on me, and wouldnt even talk to me. When I called back Ms. Cook sd we cant help you and kept transfering me to voice mail.
I did some more research and found out that I didnt need a lawer, and that the Judge may grant a payment plan. I also found out that this company is in NY, so I didnt think they would come down to Fl over $2500.

So I went to court on 11/13/2007. They didnt even have to show up. They hired a Lawer to come to court for them. He had original contracts, statements, and even knew some of the things I used the credit card for. I couldnt believe it. The Judge was on their side. He didnt even listen to me, the whole thing was over in a couple of minutes. The Judge asked me if I was working, then ordered me to pay $3200 in 30 days. Now I have a Judgement filed against me, and I have to pay legal fees on top of the $2500. I was told that if I didnt pay the $3200 with in 30 days, they would garnish my wages and freeze my bank accounts.
This is the worst thing I've ever been through. I dont even know what to do.
Can anyone help me? Any advice would be appreciated, and much needed.

They call saying that someone else is using my social security number and that's it's tied up in a court case. After listening and asking a few questions, I verified that was my number and asked what I should do about this. They suggested I call for a credit report.  Then I went on the web and found all this information. I called the person, Tarmara Smith at 866-450-5702 ext 112 back and asked if they were in fact a debt collector and how they got my SSN. She said, what is your point? I said, in all fairness I believe that I should be able to ask her questions regarding this matter as she called here and she HUNG UP on me!!!!
Who do I send a complaint to -- NY or the state that I live in?

They called a relative of mine and said they were about to file a civil lawsuit against me.  I called the lady back.  She was pleasant enough.  My account had been charged off 3+ years ago and my balance was less than $350.  

I have a hard time believing they would actually spend $1,000-$2,000 filing a civil lawsuit against me over less than $350.  If they did I would just wipe them out in Chapter 7 BK.  

Most of these collection companies acquire the debt for a penny or two on the dollar.  I'd be happy to settle for $30 if I can see validity of debt, assignment of debt from my original creditor and the assignments from the three previous collection companies who owned this debt before Hoffman, Weinberg, and O'Brien.  I'd even pay a little extra to get a signed letter from their President that this debt shall be permanently erased from my credit report (something for my records in case the debt ever appeared on my credit report in the future).  

Until then, I'll just let the debt stay unsatisfied and go about my life.

This company's conduct is CRIMINAL!!! They called claiming that we had a debt. They wouldn't explain what the debt was or where it originated from. When asked to send proof in writing of said debt, they said they would send info, but never did.. The phone number they called from just rings & rings, but no one answers, & when we finally found a number that had voice mail, no one ever called back. Then, GET THIS, we started getting $75.63 taken out of our checking account every month that we DID NOT AUTHORIZE!!

And to make matters worse, they were doing it as a Point of Sale Purchase, which means that whomever got our debit card number, was entering it in EVERY MONTH so the only way we could stop it was to cancel our card & get a new one (for a replacement fee of $25)!! We are currently, with the help of our bank, trying to recoup some of our losses but we don't expect any satisfaction. My advice to anyone these shyster dirt bags contact is to direct them to your attorney & do not deal with them yourselves.

How about just respect people and actually know and learn what situation they are in and work out a payment plan instead of being rude and selfish, because they are trying to earn a living too.  I know they make alot of money from collecting accounts, but if they spoke with some professionalism and care they would get more money back.  Some people do want to pay what they owe, have patience.

I was called by (716) 597-0889.  This is actually the THIRD time they called me.  
The first time I told a Ms. Morgan, ext. 125 she was unprofessional and rude.  If she wanted money from me she would have to talk to me with some respect.  She and I exchanged more words after that and I hung up.  The next day she called again and left the same voice mail like the first one as if we never had any exchange in negative words.  
I am now waiting for a fax from the the THIRD caller, Mr. Peterson, on what the facts were of my account.  It has been over 15min. NO FAX.  I told him if he sent me paperwork and I research that he is legit then we can speak more about and money that I owe.  
The number is legit, but I am not sure of the company since all I found on them was this website.

This company is in violation of your rights when they do not do or act in ways which are to lead you to believe something is happening that is not. Not properly identifying themselves as a collection agency is against the law. Please save any correspondance with these people; that includes on phone messages, taped conversations (you must tell them your recording) any paper trail etc. I also suggest getting a hold of your credit report; You're allowed 1 free report per year and you can do this online through one of the reporting agencies. exp.

These a***ipes called my mother and then when I called them, they threatened that if I didn't pay on a master card that I had every month that they would take me to court.  I can understand trying to collect a debt but to be rude and threatening about it and to call my mother about it is uncalled for.  I'd like to know where I can make a complaint about this company because treating people rudely whether or not they owe money is not professional at all.

I just Got a call from these people today for my Husband a Richard left a message on answer machine said he was from the law firm of Hoffman, Weinberg, & O'Brien. I call back the 866-450-5702 number and I got no answer, On my caller ID I got the 716-923-7405. He stated that he was contactin the county court and that legal matters was going to be file. I found it very suspeciouse, so I called the court house and nothing has been file...These collection companies are outrages, I am contacting the BBB to file a complaint. they have no right to threat someone that they are filing legal matters against them.

My husband received a call from 716-597-0889 requesting that he call back regarding a summons, she even left a case #.  The call back number was 866-450-5702, ext.112.  My ex-husband of 26 years ago, also called me to let us know that someone from these same numbers was calling him stating that my present husband had used him as a reference.  I called the 866 number back and requested extension 112.  The woman started out being rude, I ask her to not be rude so we could find out what this was about, she said "what did you say", I stated that I had ask her not to be rude.  She started screaming and told me to never call that number again.  Needless to say we do not know what this is about.  I did call back and spoke to a Tom Gee.  They are not attorneys as the original message had stated, they are supposedly a litagation firm with attorneys working for them, when I ask for detailed information regarding the attorneys so that I could verify with State Bar Association, I was told they did not have to give that information.  This is a collection agency posing as attorneys.  I have filed with the State Bar Association.  These people need to get real jobs.  They must really be pretty uneducated and ignorant to only be able to retain a job that scams people.  I am ready for them next time they call, so is our attorney.

I just recieved a call from my father in Texas saying that this law firm called him today looking for my husbands X-wife from 10 yrs. ago? They  said they want to serve her papers. He said he did not know her & they Q?  him & gave his full name as well as my grandmothers & said she gave them this info as a friend or relative. NOT TRUE! She doesn't even know them or my madien name? We have NOTHING to do w/her & believe it to be a collections agencey?? I would believe that. It all seems rather strange. Has anyone really found out the deal w/this so called attorneys office? I called the number listed & it says it's a law office, but NO way I believe it. Today they called 4 of my husband & I's family members. NO idea how they got all their info as his x-wife doesn't even know them.
