I've been getting these call for several years.
This what I've found to be pretty effective.
I made a list of spam callers phone numbers and when one of them call, I answer with
AN INDIAN ACCENT AND SAY HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, AND I DO NOT IN GAGE IN CONVERSATION WITH THEM. This drives them crazy and they hang up.
Mission accomplished! Then they put me on their DO NOT CALL LIST. !!!! I win.

Now, those call have dropped off a lot.
It works for me, Try it You'll like the results.

Got call. Did not answer. No message left. As others have said these are crooks who don't care about DNC lists and use spoofed numbers so authorities can't trace them.

The DNC is not a fraud. It's just that SCAMMERS don't give a rip about the DNC list. If you've given to a charity in the past or if you've done business with someone, they can continue to call you.

Did she laugh at you for falling for the scam and pressing !.  Prepare for more calls.  You just confirmed that your phone number is valid.  Remember that the do not call list is also a scam. If you don't know the caller personally DON'T ANSWER THE CALL.   DON;T ANSWER CALLS FROM POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS, CHARITIES OR BANKS.  YOU CALL THEM IF YOU WANT TO DONATE.aLSO READ YOUR BANK STATEMENT, CREDIT CARD RULES, FAKE CHARITIES, ETC AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THEY CAN LEGALLY CALL YOU.  I am sure that when you DEMANDED that your number be removed the entire room of hundreds shouted out in laughter, These people are professional scammers and you can't beat them  Just like OBAMACARE, when Congress found out that the law applied to them, Obama immediately changed the law and exempted all members of Congress.

You are  just wasting your time  with a air horn.  The robo call computer does not hear you..  You should reakize that the do not call list is a governmental fraud. IT DOES NOT WORK.  Just think about it--how does a salesman in Nevada know that a person in Missouri is on the do not call list??????  Also people call in every minute to get on the list..  JUST DON'T ANSWER ANY CALLS THAT YOU DON'T KNOW THE CALLER.  Don;t answer any with a name of a charity or bank name.  Once you answer a call or like some idiots, press buttons on their phone,  you have just told the computer that they called a working number and you will get MORE CALLS.  These scams have been on all of the news channels and even in the AARP newspaper. YET people still fall for " PRESS # 1 or 3 and end up getting a security contract for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THAT THEY CAN NOT GET OUT OF.

I'm not going to waste my time talking to these scammers, and I'm sure not going to give them any of my personal information. When scammers call I don't answer. If I do take the call and it is one of these scammers, I hang up. If you press whatever number to be put on some scammer's stop calling list you confirm your number. Just hang up. File a complaint with FCC.gov web site. FCC has a toll free phone number if you prefer. Or you can also file a complaint with DoNotCall.gov--Maybe they will do something if enough people complain.

If your number is on the Federal Do Not Call list, remember to report this kind of violator at www.donotcall.gov. It may seem ineffective, but the DOJ really has prosecuted telemarketers who violate the law?and I don't think they've ever lost a case on this law. They'll only pursue it if they get enough reports, though, so every report there counts. This number violates DNC on two counts: recorded message and purely commercial call. Now if only they would remove political calls from the exempted list...

All you have to do is to press the #1 key for  seconds and say I can't you. Every time a TM starts to talk press a key for 5 seconds and say I can't hear you.  This will work.   Just don't answer the phone when it rings if someone you know they will leave a message.

"As stated by some above do not call them back as you will set up a 'business relationship', . . .

Do you realize how silly that is? They don't care about a business relationship; They are ALREADY calling!

The only way the 'business relationship" loophole applies is if there is some action underway. If you sue them, they may offer that as a defense. If you can show the only reason you called is because they didn't comply with telemarketing law, and were seeking to find out who they are . . . that defense dissolves.

It is 100% true that "The more reports we have the more the government MAY get off their butts and do something about it." Far more effective than "wasting their time," or "calling them a lot," or blocking their number or acting on a lot of other foolish notions.

Can you cite some authority for this? "Most likely the cell phone was bought and paid for through Obama Phones..." This is not a cell phone making so many calls. If there are 15 or 20 postings on 800Notes each day, that means there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of calls from them every day. Just because you don't like one program doesn't mean it has anything to do with something else you don't like. I don't like either one of them, either. I just try to use a little bit of logic and common sense when evaluating things like this.

Call and write your Representative in Congress  . . . to:
1) Fund actual proactive watch dog activities by FCC and FTC
2) Cut out some of the loopholes in the laws.
3) Give consumers a greater incentive to complain, and especially to file lawsuits. Apparently, $1,000 per call isn't enough incentive to get people out of whine mode and into action mode.
4) If you don't like it, you can ask them " . . . to stop the Universal Fund Fee charges on all of your phones." as well.

Ask yourself: Which is the bigger problem, day after day? Is it that little fee tacked onto your phone bills, or is it the numerous calls like the ones we're posting about, here?

I submit the thing to  get worked up about is the ineffectiveness of government -- and fellow consumers -- in taking legal action to enforce and stand up for our rights.

When you're dealing with telemarketers, the only thing you can safely assume is that they will keep on bothering people until people start taking effective steps to "bother" them. Not calling them 100 times a day or anything like that. Filing complaints can lead to a lot of bother. There are postings here, and in the news, about various telemarketers being shut down by FCC or state AGs or FTC. Why? Because enough people filed effective complaints to get attention.

You blocked the number? What are you afraid of? Why not find something out about them, and help the rest of us do something effective? Merely blocking the calls may help you, but it doesn't help anyone else. There are steps you can take which will help you, help others, and help convince companies like this to do the right thing.

The name in the Caller ID is meaningless, in this instance. Look how many calls have been listed here, in only one week. I'm posting this to the seventh page.

This is a new campaign, and it will probably stop using this number before long. It may already be using several different numbers, with different names in the Caller ID.

The only way to stop scam scum like this is:
1) Learn the laws, rules, and regulations about telemarketing.
2) Grow a pair (Pardon my French.)
3) Answer the phone, talk to them as long as you can, get as much info from them as you can . . .. and even give them credit card info, if necessary, to get that info. (Not a great idea, unless you have a great relationship with your bank, and can get the charge killed immediately after they've exposed their information to the bank.) An alternative is to give them most of the numbers on the card (An old one, with a dead account, works for me.)  and then stop halfway or two thirds of the way through, with some excuse. "I hear someone at the door. can you give me a number to call  you back?" or, "Wait a minute. Who did you say you are? What is your address/phone number/web site/etc.?" When they can smell the money, they will give more information. You can check online as you talk, and you can use a second phone to call any number they give you, to verify it. Once you have some clear, concrete, information about them, hang up.
4) Post usable information about the company here.
5) Whether you've developed it yourself, or find the information here, use it.
   > File complaints with as many authorities as reasonable. Your mayor won't care. Neither will the news media. FTC, FCC, and legislators who haven't made the laws strong enough, or  funded enforcement of them, need to know. If enough people contact them, they may be motivated to do something.
  >>>>>> File lawsuits. It can be profitable for you (If you've done a good job of #1, above.) and it will be the most effective deterrent.

Do you actually have any written-down law (Statute or court decision case law.) that supports your cockamamie theory? Oh, sure. Those who scam would like it to be true, but it takes more than a phone call to establish a business relationship . . . especially if the call is an effort to find out who placed a call without -- themselves -- complying with the law.

It really doesn't matter, either way, because you're not going to take them to court, and only in court will that silly idea have any significance. They've already called, so they don't care about a technicality like EBR.

Maybe you work for some scam scum, and put that bogus idea out there, so we won't bother you by calling you. The only reason these people get away with what they do is FUD -- Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. The only reason so many people have so much FUD is because they don't bother to learn their rights. More importantly, they don't bother to exercise their rights by, among other things, complaining to FCC and/or FTC (as appropriate), legislators who give us Swiss cheese laws in the first place, and -- most importantly -- the courts. If one person per day were to file a lawsuit against each caller like this, it would soon become too expensive to continue.

One of the expenses to them, no matter how small the amount you're awarded, is associated with defending themselves. Lawyers aren't cheap. Paying travel expenses for witnesses (CEOs or compliance officers or other company personnel.) isn't cheap, either. If each company knew that each day there would be another lawsuit to defend, they would soon figure out how to do the right thing. After all, one day it would be California, the next New York, the next day, two: one from Arizona and the other Ohio . . . and so on. Each jurisdiction has its own set of rules within which they must operate, so learning the rules or hiring a different lawyer from each jurisdiction would, by itself, soon become burdensome.

I'm trying to move the burden out of my house and onto their backs.

I'm just one person. There are 365 days in the year. Have you noticed 364 people on 800Notes telling you they sued even one of these? I've sued dozens. Smallest award I got from (only) one lawsuit was $500. Largest -- for one call -- $10,000.

I didn't win on the basis of old wives' tales.

I didn't know who to sue by ignoring the calls, either. Hanging up on them, or doing any of the other evasive behavior so many people document here, prompted by FUD, would not have been helpful. Nobody hates to answer these stupid calls more than I do. Knowing I might get $1,000 or more each time makes it easier, if not more pleasant.

Knowing your rights, and how to exercise them, can dispel a lot of FUD.

I believe this number is actually registered to a Shaun Joyce. Most caller ids list the last name first. In this case Joyce is typically a female first name, ergo the assumption the call is from a female named Joyce Shaun. The number is registered in New York, Niagara Falls area.

Call received from this telemarketer and I am on DO NOT CALL lists for both FCC and PA Attorney General's Office.  I have filed complaints with both.  As stated by some above do not call them back as you will set up a "business relationship", simply report them.  The more reports we have the more the government MAY get off their butts and do something about it.

Most likely the cell phone was bought and paid for through Obama Phones for all the hacks out there who are too lazy to get a real job.  Your Universal Fund Fee is paying for these phones which must be stopped as well.  Call and write your Representative in Congress to stop the Universal Fund Fee charges on all of your phones.

First it was John from the shipping department with the free medical alert system. Now it's Mrs. Jeffrey with the same spiel but with a different spin. Press 9 to be placed on the do not call list. (Fat chance that will do. They will just call via another number and go through the same thing again. I say we file a complaint with the mother company first via the FTC or the FCC. The DNC list is a joke!)
