As an FYI, never pay any caller who refuses/can't/won't MAIL proof that the alleged debt is yours and proof that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation - a bill or invoice is not proof - is a violation of the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).  

The problem with phone calls is, numbers can be spoofed or hidden, so you can never be absolutely sure of who you're talking to.  Again, never pay unless they mail documentation proving you owe a debt to them.

Yes, this is the Bureau of Account Management. They are also known as BAM or Out Tech. They are a collections agency. They are also a company that contracts with charities/organizations/political groups to provide those computer automated phone messages (that you get a lot of around election time). For those who said they got a call from an actual person after hours - that is bull. They lock their doors by 8:30 pm. I used to work in that building, so I know. They also are not open on weekends. They are a good company that is just trying to collect a debt on behalf of a client. If you question your social security # being used as a reference - that is not their doing. They are giving the account/reference # provided to them by their client. Again, I can tell you this because I am looking at a collection notice I received from them for a small medical bill that I had overlooked (embarrassing because I know people there, so I"m hoping none have to actually call me). I compared it to the doctor's office bill, and the reference # is exactly the same.

Answered the call but caller hung up. Blocked my number and called back. Voice mail message clearly indicates it is a collection agency. Why they would be calling me on my cell number is baffling since, like most, it's against the law to do so, it's registered as a DNC number, and I happen to have one of the highest FICO scores anyone can have so it's not like anyone is looking to collect a debt from me to begin with. Other than my mortgage, I am completely debt free.

Received a call from this number this morning,  I let it go to voicemail.  A guy left a message for a person (not me) stating that he was from a collection agency and any info given would be used to collect the debt.

Number appeared on my caller ID at 5:30 pm EDT 4/30/13. I did not answer. Whoever it was left no message.

It is well after 8pm and I got a strange call from this number. They left a message but all it was was noise in the background.

It is a debt collection company. They call themselves the BUREAU OF ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT like the use of some officious sounding agency, and call it a Bureau will scare the minions of Central PA!

I got two calls back to back from this number.  I didn't answer the first time; second time, a guy asked for "Ms. Foster."  When I said no one named Foster was at the number and to remove my name from whatever list he was looking at, he said, "Oh, well she just gave me this number like 5 minutes ago.  I'm sorry if I took it down wrong."  That could be the case.  We will see if they continue to call....

This is a fundraising company.  I don't know where anyone got the idea that they were debt collectors.  I called the number and a recorded voice said I had reached the fundraising center.  I looked up the number after I hung up and saw the posts that said they were a collection agency.

I called them back because they asked for my mother and she is deceased and we are in the process of finalizing her estate and I have to disclose if there are any outstanding issues.

There are people that operate above the law.

Annoying doesn't even cover it; probably would help if they only called their legitimate debtors, and during the hours the FDC laws specify, yeah?  So, what does this tell us about this company?
