I received a call from this number twice this week.  They were looking for someone by full name at the University of (State) in (city, state).  I told them they had the wrong number, there was no one by that name here. They wanted to confirm that they were calling the Universityof if X. I confirmed they were, but they had reached a private office and it was not his, and I didn't know who he was.  And that there are over 50,000 people at the University over several square miles and hundreds of buildings so just reaching the university wasn't going to help them!

The first caller was a man with a heavy Indian accent who introduced himself, when asked, as John Smith, calling on behalf of some name I didn't understand at some company. I explained that I didn't know the person he was trying to reach. I didn't think he worked in my department (it is small). I asked for the department of the person he was trying to reach, to help direct the caller, he kept saying "He is a programmer."  That is no help at a research university.... He then asked to be transferred to the corporate headquarters. When I explained that a state university doesn't have one, and I didn't know how to help him further, he hung up. I don't think he believed me!

The second caller was a woman, 2 days later. When I told her I got this call two days ago and told the caller the number was wrong, she sounded flustered and embrassed and apologized for taking my time, then hung up.

Interestingly enough, I found out with some searching after the second call that the person they were looking for used to have this office with this phone number, and it is published in old department directories online (but not in the more up to date full university directroy, and per LinkedIn, the guy has moved from the university to Industry.)  I have been here for 3 years and the office was in use by not him for some time  before that, so it has been awhile since he has used this number- I doubt he gave it out to anyone!

So maybe the callers crawl old directories or LinkedIn profiles and then call as scam head hunters?  I hope they don't call again. 7 people share this offce so we can really confuse them!  the number is registered in PA.

Just received a call on my employer's direct line - lady with foreign accent trying to sound British/English asked to speak with him directly. When I told her he was not available, she said she'd call back later. I said you'll get me again, so tell me what you're calling about now and I'll see if I can put you through or transfer your call. She said her name was Josephine and she was calling on behalf of Ryan Shellan (?) at C-Factor (?) and she was told to put the call through once she had my boss on the line. I asked what it was regarding and she said she was not privy to that information. I told her that unless she could tell me the nature of the call, she wasn't getting through - period.  She said she'd ask and get back to us.  We'll see.......  Call display on my phone showed 717-321-1260.

Caller is a woman without a foreign accent. Asked to speak with me (by <first_name>). Similar to some other posts, when I confirmed that I was that person, she threw out a completely different last name, "are you <first_name> <last_name> of Microsoft?". I replied no and that she got the wrong number. She then said "I am sorry about that" and hang up. Very weird. Sounds like marketing scheme by social engineering.

Call appears as UNKNOWN in caller ID.  They have called before but never leave a message.  I won't answer UNKNOWN numbers, but they keep trying.

Foreign accented woman calling for our GM. Asked for him by name.  I offered to take a message but she then asked for his voice mail.  I don't put callers into his voice mail either.  So, then she said there was no message but she had a call holding for him..... Wierd.

Been seeing this number pop up for a couple weeks now, finally decided to pick up. Woman with accent asked for me by my first name. After I told her I was he, she threw out a totally wrong last name. Perfect timing for me to tell her to lose my number.

New number but the same old, same old.  Woman with an accent, phoning on behalf of Diana (Novick from Sunday Sky), asked to speak with a particular Marketing manager, mangling her name in the process.  She didn't know the details, saying that Diana would let her know once the call was connected.  I explained that we don't transfer anyone without that information, and she replied that she'd find out and get back to us.  Only they never do.

Caller asked for me by name, do not know who or what this number is - has called before and hung up several times.  Pretty sure it's a scam
