It is disgusting that so many complain and nothing seems to happen with these scammers!

Caller ID read "Pennsylvania".  They have called before and I never pick up, however last night my husband answered without checking CID.  He hung up as soon as he heard the accent, knowing it was a scam call.  People need to understand that we are under no obligation whatsoever to talk to anyone who calls our home.  This site needs another "call type" option - SCAM!

Called our DNC registered landline on 06/24/2014 @ 08:45 PM from Harrisburg, PA. No message was left. Got a call from this number yesterday too.

Caller ID read "Pennsylvania".  I never answer calls from vague ID's.  A legitimate caller would let its real identity be shown.  Rang 3 times before cutting off, so obviously a robo-call.

All very good, sensible advice, but you left out one simple option that won't stop the calls, but will stop wasting your time with useless voicemail. Set voicemail to pick up on 5 rings. Robo callers will hang up on 4 or fewer rings. Less than 1% of the scam calls we get trigger voicemail.

Well, what options does one have to defend themselves against intrusive callers?

? The Do Not Call list (Federal or State)
Works, but is effective against ONLY "legitimate" telemarketers.  Political callers, surveys and some other callers are exempt.  Scammers ignore the DNC list.

? NoMoRobo
A system offered by some telephone providers, to help automatically block robocalls.  Google "nomorobo" to see if it works with your phone provider.

? Shouting, screaming, swearing at the caller
Nope.  Does not stop calls.  May make you hoarse, and will disturb nearby people.

? Call blocker app, device or service
Could be a good choice (even though the scammers can use fake phone numbers), and some apps are free!
Google "call blocker" for more information, or check your favorite online sales site for a list.

Your phone provider may also offer blocking services.  Check their web page for information.

If you cannot use any of the above defenses, then:
? Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
? Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
? If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

this phone number calls me about 10 times a day, monday thru friday. it's been going on for months. i can't seem to make it stop. what can i do?

After the third time in a row of telling the rude foreign guy(oriental? indian? latino?) to stop calling my number in the space of 9 minutes,  and that I am on the Natl DO NOT CALL LIST (what a joke), this guy kept asking for my daughter and then arguing with me that she needs to stop calling him...I was the only one answering t he phone as everyone was still in bed on June 17th 2014, and she definitely was not dialing this creep. June 17TH was not the first time this little creep has called my home, but now I want to commit a FELONY!!! This harassment from CORE VOIP has gone on for months and months. I am tired and PISSED. I AM A GRANDMOTHER DAMNIT!!!!!

It said on the ID "Harrisburg, PA", left no message, don't know who it was.

This is a VOIP call and have been bothered by them repeatedly looking for a "Lucas Wilson". Talked with them once, explained I did not know any Lucas Wilson and the calls quit for a couple of months but they have started once again.

First time call from this number. Left no message. CID said "unknown". These VOI phone numbers are getting hijacked by an assortment of scammers so today's call may be about car insurance but tomorrow's call from the same number may be about debt collection or some other scam. Block this number.

Called twice, nobody there, just silence.

I'm getting at&t home service next week and thought it might be them to confirm appointment.  now, not sure.

India asking for me by my first name (nickname) saying my computer has been infected and only he can fix it. I hung up after telling him where to stick it.

Came up on caller ID as Core VOIP.  Missed the call and no message was left.  Sounds like a scam based on the comments above.  Hey jerk, you got robo callers but I got technology too. Buh bye....

recorded message pitching back braces for folks on medicare.  caller ID was CORE VOIP.

I answered a call from this number. All I got was a recorded, "Good-bye."!

I recieved a call from the aforementioned number. It talked about credit cards and finance rates, and said I was eligible for lower ones. It told me to press 9 to recieve them. I promptly hung up. I heard a recorded voice who said her name was Ann.

Woman said she was calling from Farmers Insurance and offering a comparison quote

Called it back. It said "Press any number to be removed from this list. This may take 24 to 48 hours".
Pressed the * key. Scum bags. I would think our wonderful government might do something about anonymous scam calls.

First time they called here. Looking for donations for the democratic party. I told them no thank you, then the guy got mad, so I hung up. I'd bet this is a scam

Caller is calling a business number and asking for one of our employees for debt collection purposes.   We are receiving calls from all over the place today from various numbers -  appears someone has taken over some legitmate business phone numbers using VOIP technology.  Calls are harrassing and caller is not pleasant.  Male with heavy accent (possibly India).

Got a call, 05/15/14 from this number. I said "hello" once and waited as I didn't recognize this number. After waiting 10 seconds or so, what sounded like a recorded voice said "goodbye".

Got a call from this number this morning. Answered it & phone got hung up. Caller I'd said Pennsylvania. Guess you just have to sound gruff when you answer. Tired of the repeated harassment of all these phone  preditors! Block them & they start all over with a new number.

Have been receiving calls for the past 2 days from this number, they are not targeting me but my son. they said his personal loan application has been approved. knowing my son didn't apply for a loan i tried to get some information from them but with the heavy Indian accent i couldn't understand anything they were saying. Why doesn't the government do something about these people and shame on other financial institutions for selling our information to these people
