I got a message from 717-705-4488 late one evening about two weeks ago.  The message said it was the PA Dept of Revenue and that I should call 717-783-3000 - and reference my Soc. Sec. #.  I checked the website and did not find either number.  Just received another call today.  Checked the website again and found the return # for delinquent taxes.  I know I am not delinquent.  And reading everyone else's responses, I am confident that it's a phishing scheme, too.  I thought, too, that the IRS would put things in writing before calling.  
I just worry about someone who would be terrified by this call and then get through to someone - then giving their Soc. Se. #.  Please figure this out so it stops.

Just got a call from these idiots, they say to call back number 717-783-3000 and reference the call with YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!!!  Don't do it, if it's the Department of Revenue, THEY HAVE YOUR SS NUMBER!!

Receiving calls from a 717-705-4488 and the caller id says PRIVATE NUMBER.  they instruct to call them back at 717-783-3000 and to have your social security number ready.  Well,  I have never gotten a letter from the PA Dept of Revenue and I'm sure if they wanted me, they know my address to send me a letter.  I would never give out SS #over the phone.  Someone needs to stop this scam

My husband received a message on his cell phone from a woman named "Sandy" who claimed that she was from the PA Department of Revenue and that we needed to set up a payment schedule for 4 delinquent payments. I called our accountant who said that we did not owe any money to the state and that if it was truly from them, they would have sent a written notice. He said that it was a phishing scheme to get our SS#s or EIN#s and / or to take money from us. I called the PA Department of Revenue's legitimate phone number and spoke with the collections unit and they verified that neither our business nor our personal accounts were delinquent in any way.

It is the Pennsylvania Dept. of Revenue and they are probably calling about taxes. Specifically, if you have a business and you owe state withholding taxes for your employees.

I received calls from different numbers including the number 1717-705-4488 late at night, weekends, holidays. The caller always hung up with no reply when I answered. On saturday Jan 28 10:41 there was a call from that number with the recording claiming to be from Pennsylvania state tax, but then it hung up.
Being suspicious, I did a redial of the caller ID. The recording said " the number is disconnected and no longer in service." I than manually dialed the number. Again it said " this number is disconnected and no longer in service"

That phone number is not with the state of Pennsylvania state revenue. That is a fictitious number having you hold so when you here the click it then connects with your phone number to make mischief calls using your number without your knowledge nor your approval. I have tried to report that number to my phone service. They said there is nothing they can do because those numbers are disconnected and no longer in service.

So that number is not an outgoing number or the phone companies would have it listed!
Poster revenue employee is lying about his credibility. The numbers he listed is not on the Contact Page of Pennsylvania department of revenue.  Go instead to the .gov web page of the state in question and click on the link for there department of revenue to get theirontact numbers.

There was not message.  I had a long distance call on my phone bill.  I tried using 411 reverse phone number but it came up as NO LISTING.  I googled this number in and found info from other people about it.

called 3 times today 7/20/11 but did not leave a message.

I have had many calls and i hope this stops im getting sick of it and its impossible for me to have an llc that phone number is just a scammers phone someone keeps calling me from this number i have an ipod so  i cant answer the call i hope they stop now or else i will call the authorities!!! i am only twelve

I also got a call on my cell phone from this number at 7:30 pm. I checked for my name on the lien list and my name isn't on there. I'm guessing if this call is from collections. The call was for the previous person that had my cell number. I've only had this current cell number for 3 years.

Receive call on my employer cell phone Saying that I need to call the PA Dept. of Revenue concerning an important matter.    Did not say what the matter was.

Received a message on my mobile. I did not answer. The person left a recorded message for me to call them. The person said they wanted to know about someone who handles my estate. They called again from another number 717-525-5759 and they left another similar message on my mobile. I usually do not take calls from numbers I do not recognize. Both messages indicated they were calling on behalf of the IRS I called both numbers in the morning and they were not working numbers.

Recieved a call from this number today (03/14/2011) and it just went to hold music.. for kicks i decided to stay on the line, but after 3 minutes it just hung up on me... I am sure what the purpose of the call was.

I will not be calling the number back, only because I know what they were calling in reference to and will provide the required information via another method.

I received a phone call from 717-705-4488 on a Saturday night at 7:29 pm. The message says it is from the PA department of revenue. And to call them back at 717-783-3000. I went to the PA department of revenue and neither number are listed as valid to contact the PA Department of Revenue. They need to mail you a letter before they call you. So, please be careful if you call them back. I believe it is a phishing scam. Our number has been targeted by other scams.

This call is from the IRS. I received the phone call because I used to have a sales tax license and they never received my cancelation so they think I am deliquent on taxes. The number that I received to call back was 717-783-8434 and then a menu comes up. Hope this helps someone.

I am the Telecommunciations Manager here at the PA Department of Revenue.  The caller ID 717-705-4488 is a PBX line associated with our predicitive dialer.  This dialer makes outgoing calls only.  When calling into the system with the above mentioned number, you will get dead air. I am working on getting the number changed to Unknown at this time.  
The full message reads: "Hello, this is the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.  It is important that you return our call.  Our telephone number is area code 717-783-8434.  That number again is area code 717-783-8434.  Our office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern standard time Monday through Friday.  Thank you."  Please use phone number 717-783-8434 when you return our call.  It will save you time on the phone.

Call from PA Dept of Revenue asking to call back about an LLC I have in my name.  They too asked me to call back to a different number 717-783-8434.  I called that number, it was after 5pm and it had an automated recording telling me to call back during normal business hours.

Same Deal with the people below me.  I wasn't home.  Got the number.  Called a few times, and it didn't even ring.  I have Vonage, and I don't get UnWanted telemarketers.  Which is something nice for an internet phone.  The name on the caller id says: HRBG_UNKNOWN.

I hope someone can figure this out.  I first thought it was my Vonage line, since it is an internet phone, and when the net is down the phone is down.  So I called myself on the Cell Phone, and that rang, so I knew it had to be something wrong with the number.
