same story about malware, original number showed up as  234-567-890 three times no last digit out of Salem OH. I transfered my home phone to my cell in nov. 2012. when I asked for a number to verify I was given 718 593 4198. She called back in a couple of minutes. 234 is the country code for Nigeria and Northeastern OHIO! Lots of scams out of that country. Google 234.

They are still at it, providing this number as the call back number.  Same scam, I told them I needed to call them back and the man asked someone else what the inbound number was.3 years later and they are still at it!

Same story - East indian, from Microsoft tech, error messages sent to them, calling to help, wanting to connect to a program to get in my computer to fix. Showed me the event window with the errors and warnings claiming that it was infecting my computer. How has this scam not been stopped. These messages go back 3 YEARS!!! Don't give over control to anyone you don't know!

Wow..can't believe how long this has been going on...It's now Jan. 2013 and I just received the call. This was a woman with a very heavy accent...really hard to understand, she claimed she was calling from MicroSoft and that she could tell that my PC was infected and wanted me to hit the windows key and "r" at the same time which brings up the "run" pop up...she wanted me to type something in the field...I wouldn't do it. I asked how she got my phone number and her answer was unclear. I told her I was busy and asked for her number...She then became very rude demanding that I do what she said. I that point I hung up.
Be careful out there!!!

Got called today. Rejected the call, they call again, reject it again, silenced my phone, they kept f****ng calling, turned off my phone and looked them up. Well now they're on my blocked caller list. Likely a scam (from what I read, you get some hindu call you and tell you that you got errors on your computer, which is total bs), don't fall for it.

Same Story: phone call from Out Of Area, Indian voice telling me that my "Microsoft computer running Windows" was sending out error messages over the Internet from which he learned my phone number and my system ID (which he said is 270912).  He claimed to be in Brooklyn NY and worked for Happy Software.  I eventually hung up on him.

The number of Out Of Area calls has jumped in the last few days - whenever I answer before there has been dead air.  This was the first time someone answered the line.

After reading the 3rd page I realized I also had received calla from 123-456-7890, but there was never any conversation.
But you know, I think it was David Jones and company again.
When they called from 718-593-4198 I got the sales pitch.

123-456-7890 is probably a dialer just checking to see if number is good and is anybody home to receive a call from 718-593-4198.

Same story as above. Passed me thru 2 guys to a supv. He told me the sales pitch and price.
I told him to give me his name & number and company name. I said I would check it out and if all seemed right I would call him back. I googled phone number.
What do you think? Did I call him back or not?
Yes I did 4 times:
1.  just background noise and a disconnect after about 5 sec.
2.  just background noise and then answered with a phony voice "All lines busy, please call back later".
3.  just background noise and then answered with a phony voice "All lines busy, please call back later".
4. Man answered with a thick almost unintelligible speech. I asked for David Jones, he seem confused and finally stated he was David Jones. I told of our earlier conversation and that I would call back after checking them out. He was still confused and asked how much I paid and which service did I purchase. I asked if he was David Jones he said YES.
I told him I had really bad news for him ...... He was a phony and a scam artist. He then went into word usage diatribe that I shouldn't use here because some youths may read this. I thanked him and he called me more things and told me to "Never call this number again" as I responded that I would be calling again.

Fun times are here again !!!!!!

Caller ID showed multiple calls from (123) 456-7890 over the past week (several a day), no message left. Today I answered to tell the telemarketer (whoever it was) to take us off their call list. Man with heavy East Indian accent, poor call reception, initially stating he is calling about my Microsoft computer, that Microsoft has been receiving multiple error reports from my computer which indicates computer is infected with malware and will crash imminently. I said thank you and I will take the computer to my local computer store to have it checked  out. He immediately said my local computer store would not be able to fix the problem and wanted me to "register" with their company. I said I doubted Microsoft would be making cold calls without leaving messages if it were true. He then said he was NOT from Microsoft "Microsoft is a very big company with millions  of customers" and said he was from "Online PC Expert". I stated firmly that I would not register with their company without checking them out first and asked for a phone number  to call - he stepped away and returned with a number in NY, 718-593-4198 but didn't know  how to read out the sequence of numbers as area code (3 digits) and number (3 + 4 digits), instead reading it out two digits at a time. I told him I was definitely not going to register with their company and he said "Well, that's your problem then" in an irritated tone. After hanging up googled the phone number  and found this and other sites identifying it as a scam. I filed a complaint with the FBI IC3 unit via the FBI website.

Yes, they could now have access to your computer. Use system restore to go back to a date before the phone call or maybe just for the heck of it reformat the pc and reload your programs.

Had 2 calls from Happy Software this evening. Played along to get their details but would not give me their number. The first hung up quite angrily. The second went very quietly with that person hanging up I did not replace the handset[?] on the phone and hoping this means they cannot make further calls on their phone.

Is that right? Assume that may not be if they were actually calling via a VOIP system.

Note there is a legitimate company called Happy Software: feel for them in having these nobs use their name. On this company's website they advise who people should call and even give you [in the USA] a code number to quote in order to systemise the problem and maybe force more action even if it the nobs are in India.

Same as earlier reported from those who posted before me, HOWEVER, the phone number that now comes up is.... (123) 456-7890!  Being naturally suspicious, I started asking questions before the guy (from India, obviously) could hook me into the scam.  But, and just like one of the other reporters of this scammer, I can't help but feel that they DID know what was going on with my computer and the issues I was having with it of late.  Is it possible that they CAN or DID get into my computer?  Now I'm really worried!

Received an "Out of Area" call today july 26, 2012 from a man with a thick East Indian accent claiming he was from IT at Happy Software  representing Microsoft and my computer had a virus that would prevent my computer from turnng on. He said he worked for Happy Software from  Brooklyn New York and would transfer me to some one technical to get into my computer. He said there was no charge for this service. I said take my number off their call list, no thanks for the service and hung up. This is the second phone call received; the other call came from an unfamiliar cell phone number. When asked how they got my number they said a survey.

I am a senior citizen living abroad. I maintain my original phone number which would appear to be in Northern CA. I recvd a call very much like the others. The caller stated he was in Brooklyn NY and cited the phone number as proof. I indicated that this was no indicator (since he was certain he was calling CA). Despite this he took advantage of my limited computer knowledge and gained access to my machine as well as convincing me to purchase his service for US $119. Fortunately he was unable to acceess the funds. He then asked me to give him my credit card information so that he could run this himself. At this point I flatly refused to speak with him or his numerous "technicians", assistants and "managers". I continue to be fearful of additional bogus activity on their part. To date it does not appear that anything further has happened. They receive payment via mercaway.int or something similar.

I just got a call from a man with heavy Indian  accent saying he was a verified Microsoft technical support company. Said company name was Happy Software. I couldn't help but to feel that this was a bigger scam then just California.  he was trying to gather info by asking me to push the Microsoft key and the R key and had me enter eventvwr. Looked as if my computer was infected with yello and red warnings and then had me shut down and then when I turned computer back on said to continually hit he f8 key. I didn't do that and hung up. Gave me a weird number 718-593-4198. Who or what agency is out there that handles these sorts of calls/computer scams? Seems like a big problem.

Just received same phone call from "Happy Software" in Brooklyn.  Asked for his address, wouldn't give it to me.  Asked for his phone #, wouldn't give it to me.  Asked to speak to his supervisor, said he couldn't do that.  Then he told me to have a nice day.

Yep....all the same as your experience. Played along just to get as much info out of them. Now, I have reported them to ABC,NBC, and CBS in NYC for them to investigate, further. And, I'm not stopping there. going to report them to the Attorney General in NY, California, and DC!  And, you are right about the black box...but so sad that people who may be starving aee forced to work for crooks.... we all have to create our healthy, ethical and social boundaries; but, scammers such as these must be stopped from preying on the public.

I just got the same call today and this company has called me at least once every two weeks for the last 3 months. Usually when I ask where they are from they hang up.  Today a man with a thick Indian accent said his name was John and he was from Happy Software in Brooklyn, NY.  I asked him what they wanted me to do and he told me to go into my computer and I acted as if I was doing it.  After each command he would say, "What do you see?" and I finally said, "What am I supposed to see?"  Whenever I asked him why he was calling he would just repeat the script.  I have asked them not to call to no avail and I am the last person without caller id.  I am going to get it so that I can see the number and, I guess, report them.  But, to whom do we report them?

Just had our sixth phone for the week along these lines. I asked for the company name and was told "Happy Software".When I asked for the caller's location I was told South Melbourne. Then, when I asked for a contact phone number for verification purposes, suddenly there was no answer and he rang off.

OMG Tom  Linux?  Good one. I did the same and played along for a while.  I WAS going to say that I had an Apple Mac and I didn't understand how they could have received messages from my computer.  I am also a Computer Tech, build computers, troubleshoot both HW and SW, so I really appreciated your sense of humor. Gotta love it!  Thanks for the giggle.

I was called repeatedly on 5/23/12.  Of about the 15 calls I received, I did answer 3 of them. On the first call I told them to remove me from their call list.  On the second call, when I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was hung up on.  On the third call I kept her on the phone "following her instructions" but not letting them log on to my computer.  I finally explained to them that I am a Tech Engineer and that my computer was clean of all spyware, adware, malware in general.  I then asked again to be removed from their call list. The last call came in after 10 pm on a week night.  I also asked for a number to call them back and I was told that the number is only for paying customers.  The number did not show up on my caller ID but I was told they were calling from NY, NY, USA. I did call the number listed above and it was the company that called me.  I then requested again that I be removed from their call list.  Time will tell. Something tells me that I am not done hearing from these people.

What they are doing is having people with windows computers go into the system event viewer and then telling them that anything that is red or yellow in there (under applications and under system) is malware and that they can remote into my computer and remove it.  TOTAL FALSEHOOD!!! They also start the call saying that they are the support team for Microsoft Windows and that my computer has been sending them messages that I have malware on my computer.. another FALSEHOOD.  People please beware.  If you question the validity of any of this type of unsolicited call, better call a reputable computer repair shop and just ask them.  Please don't give these people a penny.

Yes, XionTehcnology just threatened to come to my house when I called them out on their scam.
* First of all, the actual fake number they used was (999)910-0012 but that's irrelavent because it's not real & they seem to use different numbers with each individula.

Indian fake names "Peter" & "Victor".  They even have a website(xiontehnologies.net) which I called (718)593-4198, & they first told me what my phone number was!, & then varified that they work on behalf of Microsoft "sometimes"!   The phone number on my caller ID was (999)910-0122 which is a fake number of course.  I called the FBI, & they said it could take months before they could get court permission to trace a call from them.  I called Xeon/Intel & Microsoft & reported the website & the calls because I figured they'd want to do something to catch these guys too.  FBI only suggests the Co3.gov(I probably go that code wrong) form, which doesn't apply to the fact that my life was threatened by the hackers.

I got a call from a blocked number but was exactly what others are saying here. The man with heavy Indian accent said he was from Microsoft and had been recieving data from my computer for a long time and that it was in trouble and needed to be fixed. And that he will fix it for me. He had me turn on the computer and showed me the red and yellow "Errors". Then I asked him if he was selling anything and he said there is a one time fee of $119 or maybe he said $190. When I asked if I could call him back he said that he could only give me the number after I paid. Then I asked what company he works for and he said Happy Software. But I thought he said he worked for Microsoft. Obviously a scam. He asked me to wait on hold, then I hung up. That was yesterday, and I have not gotten another call.

Yeah, I just got the same call from "Gary." I told him I had two laptops and asked which one he was calling about. He said, "Either one." LOL -- yeah, because they have the same malware. What a scam. I kept them on the phone asking stupid questions for almost 15 minutes. They sent me to the happy software site as proof of their legitimacy (yeah, right) and I asked them things like "Is your software happier than other software? Why is it so happy? Is my current software sad? Can I mail you cash for the services?"

I?ve been building computers and taking care of hardware and software problems for many years.  I recently received two phone calls like the ones reported here, telling me that my Windows computer was reporting errors to their company.  Both times the callers had heavy Indian accents.  I played along, acting like I was very concerned and didn?t know what to do.  Basically, I kept them on the phone wasting their time, as long as I could by asking questions that made me appear not to know much about my computer.  Of course they continued to lie and try to get me to go on line and download software from their website.  Eventually I let them have it.  I said ?I don?t know how this could have happened.  I don?t have a Windows computer.  I use Linux for my operating system.?  After a long pause, they began to act confused and not really know how to respond, except to say ?Linux??  Then I said ?Look, I?m going to be honest with you.  I?m an IT professional and I?ve been monitoring this phone call.  Please don?t hang up.  I need you to stay on the line just a little bit longer.?  At this point they hang up the phone.
I know? I?m a bad boy.
