guy has been stalking me too. Calls non stop. How do I stop it?

So they called me and I told them that I wasnt interested in donating so the guy explained how it helps burn victims and those that need help ... So I decided to donate to them this year and sent a check out for 1000$ . I feel so good about it and I am proud, but then what happened they called me a month later asking for a donation again but I explained to them to call me only twice a year because I cant afford to give them once a month. I stopped giving money to my church because I think the burn victims need much more. You guys should be on a wall of shame for talking about people that help those that in need.....

Asked for me by name, then hung up. In Manhattan. What the heck?

FYI -  Area code 718 is a Brooklyn, NY phone number. I received one call but didn't answer the phone.  No one left a message.  Obviously this is a scam.. And by the way, Brooklyn has a paid fire department not volunteer.

fourteen hang ups on my voicemail from this number - I have no idea who it is. The Caller ID says AHG

Same here (solicitor for an alleged police/fire charity), only the number on the caller ID was 718-676-7931 (AHG). Guy called about 8:55 PM on Veterans Day 2011, knew my name and my address (at least as far as the street -- he didn't give the house number). I told him I wasn't interested in helping. When he asked me why, I told him that, for one thing, he had just woken my infant daughter. He told me that that was my problem, not his, and he'd be working until 3 AM. After a few more seconds, during which time it sounded like there were other calls in progress wherever the guy was, he hung up.

I received the same obnoxious phone call last night around 8:30pm from a male with a bit of a New Yawker accent.  He was incredibly rude when I cut him off 30 seconds into his help the firefighters pitch & told him politley that I could not help him out.  He said "Oh, I think you can help."  Excuse me, I said? I then cut him off again and said I am sorry but I cannot help out.  He said "You better be".  Phone call ended.  

If this is a legitimate cause asking for money, why be rude?  Total scam artist.  

Tip to the wise - if anyone calls you asking for money - ask them to mail you some information about the charity & how to give.  Never ever give over the phone to someone you have never heard of.

An unidentified adult male has been calling residents and asking for donations on behalf of the non-existent Pahrump Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Potential victims are being offered the chance to donate at various level categories: Silver, Gold and Elite. The silver and gold levels require a $25 or $50 donation, respectively, and $100 will get you the elite status."

I've received  numerous calls from this number. Dialed it back and got a message saying that the number was no longer in service.

Time to phone the NY Atty General office and report this scammer.

got a call from an A***OLE claiming to raise $ for a fundraiser to benefit volunteer firefighters.  told him i'm not working at the moment and apologized for being unable to help, and the A***OLE asked me how i was living where i did. F*** HIM

Ken's experience is mine.  If I understand correctly, the telemarketers are desperate, self-employed "free-lancers" who've taken the place of junk mail.  They're paid by the "close" and they tend to steamroll their marks, eventually burning out and leaving.  The dialing itself is, of course, the work of a computer and database spoofing a Caller ID.  They're a plague to anyone with a listed landline, and they're carefully trained to *not* give up information about the company whose name is on their commission checks.
Sigh.

I got a call from 718-676-6984 - caller ID says "AHG".  I have been getting this call for the past month at least 3 times a week.  One time, I asked to be taken off the list and a guy threatened me.  He insisted that I was the person he was calling, and that he had the right number, and that I was lying - AND HE CALLED ME!!!  I asked politely for a supervisor, he said he didn't have one.  I asked for his boss, and he said that he was the boss.  I can guarantee that this guy was not management material, and I now feel very threatened everytime they call.  Can the goverment to which we pay taxes please stop this intrusion in our lives?  Or is the "telemarking lobby" so much more powerful than the masses of people who are threatened/inconvenienced every day by these few people.  Can we do an "Occupy Telemarketers" movement against these small entites?  C'mon there's got to be more of us than them in this world - just like Main St. vs. Wall St.!!!

Got a call from 718-676-7928. UNBELIEVABLY RUDE. borderline threatening. refused to remove my number from calling list. would not tell me his organization.

Received a phone call from someone apparently doing telemarketing claiming to be from "VAFT" some "Fire Victims Assistance" group (Firemen, Paramedics, etc.).

He wanted to know if I would donate, gave several dollar values ($25, $50, etc.) and asked if I "would be a hero" (i.e., would I give money).

It seemed fishy so I asked if they have a website and was told "www.aftcares.org".  This site does not exist.  I tried phoning back based on the caller ID and got a "this number has been disconnected" message.

The number apparently used to belong to some medical testing lab in Brooklyn that no longer exists.  I assume that this was a case of caller ID spoofing.
