I just got three consecutive calls starting 8:29 p.m. from 1-718-822-9084, the next one from 1-818-843-9669 at 9:48 and the final one at 10:13 from 1-607-397-8255.  Didn't answer them because I thought they would be telemarketers calling late and I now see they were probably from the same group as indicated by all comments.  Thank you for posting your comments to show others NOT to listen to these scammers!!

If you get a call from these scammers do this:

1. Tell the scammer to hold for one second.

2. Make sure your computer is up and running with it's speaker volume up loud enough to be heard by the caller over the speaker phone.

3. Go to this website: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/ndsound

4. When the sound board is up, hit the "Hello" button first.

5. The fun begins.

P.S., for even more fun have your webcam handy and post the video to youtube and title the video "phone call from 718-822-9084". lolzzz

Yes unfortunately once you give out your number for any business you are releasing your number to others who will use it to solicit or scam you.  In this case, the people you did business with did sell or release your number or possibly information to other telemarkers.  Play a trick on them...tell them it is a wrong number, this is a business number or tell them something that will eventually have them stop...if not, just ignore their calls even though this doesn't make them stop....I have fun sometimes with these people because I play tricks back on them....

I got a call over the weekend from this number.  The caller with an Indian accent called to let me know that they had detected something wrong with my computer.  I told them that I didn't have a personal computer but a company owned computer and they said well, we have detected something on the computer, I told them it wasn't possible because they could not, if they did, then they had to be hackers hacking into our company computers and I warned the man, never to call me again because i worked for 'FBI'...and I would track him down for his scams.....I have not yet received another from them so we will see how that goes...but yes they are a scam and be careful....

Today I have received a call from this number. It is now one months that I receive call from US on my mobile phone . Thanks to this web site I have understoud that are spam calls and I don't answer but I have a "question" in my mind and I would like share my doubt with this comunity. I have decide to books hotel and flight for my summer holiday in US using internet and giving my mobile number as reference telephone (mainly using expedia and booking.com). After this I have received several call from US and all are spamming call (other numbers are (845) 928-2408, (585) 599-3948, (607) 756-9642) .  Do you think that can be a coincidence ?.......

In Italiano

I just got this call.  I could tell he had VERY old telemarketing data and so I decided to have a little fun with him.  Anyway, in the end, he kept getting mixed up with his "script" due to "innocent" interruptions.
It's always fun when they try to talk tough on the phone.

I've heard a few people getting scammed, so at least I wasted his time (had the time to do it) so others couldn't be.

Thank goodness our phone system allows for reporting and blocking of these numbers (Primus!!!)

Below is a copy n paste from another forum explaining the scam:-

I get these phone calls about one a week. Last time, I was ready for them: I had a machine set up with a clean XP installation, so I played dumb to see what they would do.

They pose as "Windows Support Centre", or suchlike, and say that they've been receiving reports from your computer that there's a problem. You'll probably be asked how old the machine is - however old it is, seemingly, you'll be told that the warranty on your Windows software has expired, or that you should have taken one out when you bought it. Then, you'll be talked though opening something called the Event Viewer, and shown a screen that contains a number of warnings and errors. They will tell you that this is serious, even to the extent that it's causing problems that might force your ISP to cut your connection and/or inform the police.

Let's stop here and make two points:

1. There may well be something called a "Windows warranty". However, I have been a Microsoft Partner for nearly a decade, and I've never heard of such a thing. I think we can assume that if such a thing existed, Microsoft would be sending me lots of information on how I can make money selling it. They haven't, because there isn't.

2. I've never seen an Event Viewer that didn't have warnings and errors, and I've been a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer since 1999. Its function is to keep a record of everything that happens to the operating system so that people like me can find out what's happening if something has gone wrong. Most of the time, though, there's nothing to be alarmed about - in my case, most of the warnings were due to a printer not being found on the network because I'd switched it off.

OK, so the next stage is that you get passed to the "Technical Department". This is where it got interesting: I was told that a six digit support number was being generated so that my problem could be resolved, and I was directed to a website called logmein123, where I could enter this number. Now, this is a common tool used by people like me to fix machines over the network - clients call me with a problem, I can connect to the machine and show them what to do without having to leave my office. In this case, they were going to "fix" my machine. So I let them in. At this point, we will pause for a warning:

WARNING: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME ON YOUR MACHINE. I WAS GIVING THIS GUY COMPLETE ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER. HE COULD DO ANYTHING HE LIKED, TRANSFER FILES TO INSPECT AT LEISURE, ETC. I WAS USING A MACHINE WITH NOTHING ON IT BUT THE OPERATING SYSTEM. REPEAT: DO NOT LET ANYONE YOU DO NOT KNOW AND TRUST ONTO YOUR SYSTEM IN THIS WAY.

The first thing was that as soon as he connected, I could see the IP address he was connecting from, and I was able to trace this back to a company name, and trace the company back to its offices in Mumbai. While I was doing this (on another machine), I was watching a rather nasty piece of software being uploaded to my machine and installed. A bit of fiddling around, and I was asked to try running a few programs. Lo and behold, they all crashed with frightening looking error messages - remember, this was a machine that was working perfectly a few minutes before. This was explained as a consequence of the problems that I was having before, and that the diagnostic program they were running was now blocking programs that could get me into trouble.

This was the point at which I was asked for money - they started at £100 to fix the problem I already had, with an additional £80 for a simple one year warranty to protect me in the future, or if I preferred, I could give them £299 for an all-in package including fix, anti-virus software and a five year warranty. Visa and Mastercard accepted. If I didn't want to go ahead, then I wouldn't be able to do anything with it until it was fixed.

At this point I let him know what I was doing, complete with telling him the name and address of the company he was working for. I expected him to hang up on me, but he decided to argue with me, at one point telling me that I wasn't an MCSE and I didn't know what I was talking about. In the end, I just told him that if he had been in this country, he could expect to be arrested, and hung up on him.

So, in summary, I wasted my time in this way so you don't have to. If these pirates call you, don't say a word. Just put the phone down.

Just got a call from this number. They claimed they were a call center for microsoft. They asked me to open event viewer and see how many errors there were and that a virus was on my computer. They forwarded me to someone else. I immediately asked him where he was calling from. He said Delaware. I asked him what the area code for Delaware was, and he couldn't answer right away. He should have known if he lived there. At that point he hung up.

I got a call from this number today also. The female agent argued with me about these so called errors on my windows program from being hacked. I asked her how she or her so called company had access to my windows program when I do not have a windows program. She said that they hve received many reports sent back to Microsoft in regards to my pc and the errors on it. Then I said to her well, you must have a very strong program or system to find errors on an invisable computer! She continued to argue with me. I asked to speak to someone who would listen and understand English. She put me on hold for a few seconds then came back pretending to be someone else (same voice, same tone in the voice and same conversation continued).

She also claimed she knew everything about me and my internet activity...I said prove it. She knew my name (first and last), emails (personal and work), home address, where I work and bank and the list goes on...This information I have never ever posted anywhere, nor do I discuss this information with anyone! This is very creepy!!!!! I told her that all the information was wrong and that this is a scam...her only response was to say helloo over and over again then the line went dead. Off to change all my pw's now and find a stronger internet security program.

Yes, I just got this call today, everything you described even the same accent of a man, asking me to find windows key. I was in a hurry with some home things and was not able to continue this conversation, so promised him to apply to my husband's assistance and asked him to call later. I didn't get fun in this and feel the best way is to block this phone number to stop scam

Just received a call from that number and they told me they were from Microsoft. I was told that my windows os have problems. They call me on my house phone and when I asked them where they got my number, they told me when I bought my windows it was registered to this number at the store...but I used my cell number! I just wanted to see how far they will go. They guided me to check my event viewers and told me thse errors happened because I was hacked...I was then forwarded to second level support and she tried to get me to go to ammyy.com, which will give them access to my PC. This is where I stopped them and told them that I know they were full of s*** and that I wanted to know how far they would go...asked her to hang up and never call again!

I am in Ottawa, Canada.
Both callers had indian accent.
