I think this company preys on people's vanity. A person that I know is a very educated person and in that respect is extremely proud of her educational accomplishments. She was contacted and reeled into what I feel is a scam of the company Madison Whos Who. She has sent them thousands of dollars over the years all because they lead her to believe her attachment to the company came from a "referral for recognition". She is over sixty years old is disabled and has no need for "networking" services. But still this company gladly takes her money. I wish I knew how to get her money back from them for her. She is as I stated disabled and lives on a limited income and can certainly not afford the lose the money she has paid them.

I got a call from Andre Roberts at the 718-932-8011, after responding to an ad on LinkedIn.  He gave the whole spiel, like he was interviewing me to see if I qualfied to join the Who's Who club.  Then of course he said I was accepted and explained what they provide, all very vague.  Then he tried to get my credit card number to sign me up.  This is when I knew it was likely a scam.  I said I don't give that info over the phone, send me detailed info of what I get.  He quickly ended the conversation as he knew he's been had.

Yep, naive, but the excuse is that they now have smart advertising on Linkedin where you are invited to apply to become a member . If you are naive enough , well then it works when you are called back to your application , Linkedin thus becomes abused for quality labeling , of course they can not be.

So never give your real credit card information over the phone , you might as well give your credit card away as to hand over the information to someone you do not know who is at the other end of the phone call .

I know they speak incredibly effective for your vanity, I also jumped into the trap , just managed to close the account in time before " Who is Who " managed to steal their fee .

Next time I can not help but tell all that I am asked by a skilled telemarketer (at that point I am weak, like so many of us are - you know the feeling , sweat a little and get a little as a child to an adult again regardless of your age ) , I use "the emergency hatch " and tell the wrong credit card number, just one of the digits of the number are incorrect and I'm home free .

Take care out there on the web. It is dangerous business.

They already have the phone number to begin with, obviously, since you're being called. You think giving your phone number a second time will do what exactly? If you expect someone to remove your number you should provide the number you'd like removed, I assume that if the above comment says she was told her number will no longer be called, she was smarter than you, and gave some indication to "management" about who she was and what the phone number was.

How can they remove your number if you withhold it?

Unless you told them your number to remove, in which case they have your number.

No win, eh?

The woman who called me would not even give me the name of their company.  She was sweet and nice first but when I told her I did not have time to talk to her she hung up without saying anything.  Then she called back in 1 hour and made her number a "private number" on the caller ID, I answered and told her again I was not interested.  She became rude and said it would suck for me not to become a member and that it would be terrible for my business.  She was rude and pushy and kept asking me for a valid reason why I am not joining.  I told her it is none of her business and that she is rude and obnoxious and I hung up on her.  I did call their number (718) 932-8011 ext. 200  (make sure you do the *67 before dialing the number to make your number private) and told their management that they better not ever call me again and told them about the behavior of their crazy sales person.  She apologized and said they will remove my number from their list.  I also placed their number on my "reject list" on my Android phone.

I almost became the victim of signing up for a 3-year membership offering opportunity to network with thousands of professionals via this Madison Who's Who company.  While they were "so call" processing my information and credit card charge, my Barclay Credit Card Company called with a fraud prevention notice so I stop proceeding further with this company.
Do not talk to this company.  It's a complete scam!  Some dude name Jason. Smooth talker who will suck your hard-earn $$$ and blood!

These forums confirm the scam.  Mine was via linked in. Pushy sales person said I had qualified then pushed for credit card details. The hard sell came and I still didn't give them card details by which point André got bored and ended the call.

Anyone know if the info I gave them can be used fraudulently? Who can I log this with to stop others being scammed?

Same story... too much questions about my job, my experience, then.. "Sir, You´re qualified to be a member!!!
And was offered a choice between a lifetime package and a 5-year one.
I did not trust it because as I kept saying no the lady offered a cheaper option, but I had to sign up today by paying the amount by providing my credit card.Too suspicious for me.
Then I sayed the lady: "Oh, I´m terrible sorry, but I´m not at my office, I´m on beach now. I dont have my credit card."
The lady asked me: "Really, at beach?"
I tall she: "Of course, I´m in Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain."
After, the girls made too much questions about my credit car.. what´s  first number,.. how long time I´ve the credit card.. I tall , pleas, call me in a five hours, then i´ll be at home, and I give you all my credit card numbers  and also, all kamasutra numbers.

After reviewing your comment, I would have to sincerely apologize that my phone interference led to the company missing out on an exemplary employee such as yourself. Not only are we lacking in herpe free "pall dancers" but your clear and intelligent formation of sentences could have benefited MWW tremendously as an editor. Don't worry kitten, I'm not sure what jobs you're used to paying for, but this wasn't one of them. This job, unlike your current w***e house position, does not require a kickback. There will be no pimp coming after you, looking for his money. You do not have to put a down payment on this drug deal. It is a job, where you work, and then you get paid. Like what the...was that?! Oh yeah that's right, its called employment here in the US of A.

I like the believe that when I have to reply to comments like these, on websites such as this, I am replying to another human with a real complain or concern. I also know that replying to someone like this is a huge waste of time on all accounts but my need to right this wrong is winning over. I was incredibly patient with you, when you did not want to speak to HR but had chosen to ask me questions which I did not have answers to, when you called for the FIRST time. Your message was taken, I repeated that I had to answer the other line a dozen times, you refused to understand or wait for a call back, and I hung up the phone. You called back a SECOND time, I apologized and let you know that it was a busy day, your message was handed off to HR and they would be getting back to you, and you yelled "I'm recording you!!" and that was the end of the call. That summarized all of our interaction. You did not call 3 more times, thankfully, and no "bos" or otherwise was involved in your insanity. Do you not realize how asinine your complaint is?? Either way you did everyone a favor, we don't have to waste any time on someone as unemployable as you, and the safety of the other employees was not endanger with someone as unstable as you. LOL (always the perfect punctuation)

Sincerely,

Herped up pall dancer

She hang up on me about 5 times of which one of those i told her i was on the phone with her bos and he heard her hang up on me every time. She used excuses like i have other people on the phone bang, hang up, like what the ... was that ?! I thought it had to be a pall dancer with herpies .. not time for talk boys lets hang up (the pall) LOL

Big fake lie? As opposed to what? A small real lie? A medium sized imaginary lie? lol, ah the wonder of the English language. If you are going to post nonsensical and irrelevant replies make sure to make at least some sense, instead of negating what you are trying to say and looking, if at all possible, even dumber that you originally appeared.

Dealt with Madison Who's Who.  Whether it was malicious or a miscommunication, I ended up with a $1000 charge on my card.  They refused to refund anything even though I didn't want or order the book.  Finally I had Discover dispute the charge and MWW's lack of evidence resulted in me getting a full refund.

They are legit and run a legal business, but they are really just sales people who don't care about you or your success.  They will let you network on their site and publish you in their book but there is no real value.  In this day and age, you can do all that for free and do it better.

Who's Who is lying. They DO cold call and DO buy lists. I never asked to receive these calls... A number of coworkers have started receiving them too within a few months after we all attended a conference. Madison Who's Who has purchased or acquired contact lists from professional and scientific organizations and uses those to start their cold calls.

When they call:
1. Check the name of the person and company
2. Ask them to stop calling you
3. Note the day and time and report the incident to the FCC

It is illegal for telemarketers to call you to sell you something if you are on the do not call registry.  Report them to the FCC every single time they do this and possibly, eventually, one day, they will close up their scam business, and stop calling us.

To file a complaint: http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
To sign up for the do not call registry: https://www.donotcall.gov/

BEWARE, BEWARE BEWARE!!!

I fed into this scam because I was in a legit Who's Who in high school and college.  I assumed, "Oh, yeah, it's the same people. Sure, why not?"

I talked them down to a membership fee of $119 from the $700+.  I assumed that would be the end of it.  Some certificate would probably show up, I'd frame it, and be done with it.  NOOOOO!!! They are scam artists all the way.

After daily harassment calls at work and to my cell phone to get me to sign some stupid packet of paperwork, I finally went into my email to do so (several, several weeks had passed but I am way too busy to stop my job for ridiculous stuff like that).  That's when I discovered the fraudulent part of everything.  I work at a large university, and the firewall here would not let me go on their website, citing that malware was present.  I flipped out, and wrote them a sore, nasty email, citing that they better not contact me anymore.

I called my credit card company and discovered additional charges totaling $900+ that they had sneaked in there through all sorts of sneaky crap they did / did not discuss with me when they would call me at work--even though I kept saying,"NO MORE CHARGES!"  My credit card company is still working on the damage.  Bless them for helping me with my ignorance.

After receiving the nasty email from me, they immediately sent me an email saying my packet was in the mail (hello? I said do not contact me anymore).  I returned the packet to the sender last week without signing for it.  Since I returned the package, the idiots have started calling again even though I am not answering.  I will have to get nastier somehow I guess.  Their problem is that I got caught them at their game and sent my credit card company to work on it.  They are getting screwed right back and don't like it.

BEWARE!!!!!  THEY ARE SCAMMERS!  Yep, Madison Who's Who's...I hope you read this.  You know who I am, and I am FED UP with you.  My credit card company is monitoring my previous credit card number for more attempts at fraudulent activity.  Good luck with that.

I am a current employee and have no issues what so ever. EVERYONE WORKS 40 HOURS. The company hours are 8:30 to 5:30, that includes you. What hole in your body you pulled 50 hours from is beyond me. You were told exactly what you will be doing, there is a full staff, you were never told you'd do any administrative work, you are hired for SALES. Your weak grasp of reality of what YOU are qualified for is laughable. You replied to a Craigslist listing named INSIDE SALES. You are also told you will be calling potential members in regards to MEMBERSHIPS. When you signed up for Facebook to post your half naked peace sign mugshots did you expect them to send you some sort of plaque?? When you buy the advanced membership on Linked In do you wait for some sort of personalize certificate to come in the mail? Should they hand deliver you your medal?

The problem was not that you were too good to be employed here, it was that you were hired in the first place. The fact that you do not even grasp the concept of online networking shows that you were unqualified to pitch them in the first place.

You're bitter because you got fired, lets not beat around the bush. If you're inclined to tell the truth try using your real name, "R. Dae Martin." is just another one of your lies. Don't be a tool.
