i received this same kind of call today at my home (new jersey.. Luckily we were not at home &  it go to voice mail. When I searched this number on the web, I got this link. Thank goodness, I understand now.Mr.John Smith (calling from Criminal investigation) with heavy indian action.

Hi Raj I called them with blocked *67 but they traced my number not sure how but you are right they spoke gujarati wat a shame what a wrong path to get money this country has so much to offer indeed a shame! I as a lady got so tensed with this kind of call they were threatening me I called and cursed them back and I could hear background lot of people talking. Thanks it cleared my doubts !

I received a call this morning, 3/26/13 7AM, Phone # 718 989 4671 Staten ID NY on caller ID. Male caller said 3 criminal case against me in NY. Repeatedly asked for his Name, Phone Number, Badge Number. Refuse to give name and phone number. Gave Badge Number as 8738.  I told him I going to call CA Police Dept. to verify this info. He voice was with accent and siad that If I don't listen to him my passport and citizenship will be terminated. I hung up on him.  I called the local police dept., they said most likely scam, can not do naything.
I called the local FBI office the got all the info.  FBI agent also advised me to call FTC - Federal Trade Commission - 877-382-4357. I called FTC and gave them all the info.. I will be calling NYPD to complaint also.

Got same call. Same heavy, foreign accent. SCAMMER! Will try to report to local authorities.

Please report unwanted calls from 718-989-4671 to FBI so that this raving lunatic with heavy Indian accent can be shut down forever! I received a call from this blithering imbicile on Mar/26/2013. Caller identified himself as Sr. Chief Officer William, State Investigator, NY.  He said he was calling from 718-989-4671 ext 3009 and the call was related to nonpayment of state taxes and that if I did not agree to pay $35,000 right now he would issue an arrest warrant.  When I mentioned all my taxes were paid and I wanted to see an official letter regarding his complaint, he was upset and continued to rattle IRS rules and regulations.  Whoever he is, he needs to be apprehended so that he does not exploit ordinary innocent law abiding people.

?You must have to pay $ 7000  right now towards IRS unpaid taxes for the year 2011. If you do not pay $ 7000 over telephone at this moment, police will come to you and arrest you & your husband in 30 minutes. We do not accept check. You must have to pay by gift cards?

My sister scared. She immediately went to bank, withdrew $ 7000 from her bank account,  from Kroger, CVS Pharmacy etc stores and scratched gift cards and provided numbers mentioned on back side of the cards to the Caller & paid $ 7000. It took around 2 hours. During this time, telephone line was continued and caller was threatening my sister continuously over the phone. Thus, my sister paid $ 7000 over phone within two hours to the Caller.  

I request you to look in to the matter seriously and arrest the person concerned

My brother got a call which left a message that they had a legal action against him and that a police officer was speaking. He threatened him that they will take away his passport and citizenship etc.

I had it figured out the the caller was a scam artist to squeeze money form elderly in some way.  (My brother is in 70's)  So, I called them back just to find out more about them and give them a hard time.

First they wanted my name and phone number before they would talk to me.  I some how got to a so called imposter officer Watson.  When he asked me name I gave him some fake name.  I acted as if I was scared by their message and needed help.  I had hidden my caller ID.  (Hint if you call these scammers, hide or caller id.  Dial *67-1-717-484-8014 from a cell phone or dial *81-1-717-484-8014 from a land line to hide your caller ID)  So, he asked me my home phone number and said he would call me back at that number.  When I refused to give him the phone number, he said in that case, he will start the procedure to take away my passport and citizenship.

I wanted to just play with him at this point.  So, I asked how is he going to take away may passport?  Is he going to come and break down may door and take the passport from my house?  He replied, "it depends on me."  I jerked his chain once more: What would he do if I keep my passport in a bank safe?  Will he break the safe deposit vault to get my passport?

By this time, he figured out that I was just jerking his chain.  So, he said just get lost and hung up the phone.

I think, we should all keep calling this jerks and play with them, frustrate them and ruin their days...  If you do call them and jerk their chains, please hide your caller ID as described above.

I believe that it is an Indian gang located in a sweatshop call center in India, calling and threatening people to squeeze money out from the gullible and weak people.

this is so annoying has a stoopid accent and says that he is officer I wanted to laugh out so loud, cause you  can tell that he was reading a freeking script. I work with these types of callers and they think that we are stupid to fall for this crap.......

Just received a similar call and similar threat.  On the top, he mention that you can pay by only debit card to clear this up.  I told him that I do not have debit card and he mention that go to bank, get cash and he will provide info to buy debit card with that cash.

I also called local sheriff.  In stead of doing anything, they tole me that do not pick up the phone from them.  Unless you pay, it is not a crime and I was surprised with that answer.

There are also lots of noises in the back so you can not hear properly when you ask them for some info.

Definitely a scam! My mom was home alone when she got the call and she hung up saying she doesn't know English. But they kept calling back and got mad at her for hanging up. They then put the interpreter on the call and she talked to her in Gujarati. She said pretty much same thing what everyone mentioned here. Something about my dad getting arrested because of some federal crime. My dad came home and knew it was a scam but my mom was really scared.

These idiots should be exposed and punished severely.
