Hey Nash! Did they actually ever put you in collections after you cancelled your credit card? ...I'm dealing with the same thing right now, I've already got a new credit card but I'm nervous about what they can actually do?

Most of your message is not even worth replying to because it wouldn't be for your edification....in other words, I'm not looking to start an argument with you.

I am looking to inform you that it isn't an absolute that Americans are dumb. I may be gullible, and I may want to believe that people who call me and tell me that they are checking to see if my magazines are coming in (and that they are essentially the exact same company that I am already subscribed with) that they are telling the truth.

Fraudulent business practices that people fall into don't necessarily reveal those peoples' intelligence levels to be low. I am a recent college graduate majoring in Cross-Cultural Studies and minoring in Philosophy, Youth Ministry, and TESOL. I'm not an idiot, plain and simple. Not saying I'm a genius either...but my point is, fraudulent business practices reveal the hearts of those working in a company and the heart of the company itself, not the intelligence of (or lack thereof) of its victims.

Additionally, your voice verification means nothing to me for a number of reasons. 1: The voice recording information could be changed--I mean, a person answers yes to virtually every question, it wouldn't be difficult to make it sound as though they were saying yes to something completely different; 2: In my case, I wasn't allowed to NOT confirm after it had been recorded and I didn't want to go through with it (and they already had my information after recording the first time); 3: If you don't understand the terms they still refuse to explain them with any degree of clarity that would even begin to benefit any human on this planet; 4: they lied about the terms in the first place by claiming to be something they weren't, nullifying the agreement and the purpose of the agreement.

I was duped because they LIED to me, not because I'm stupid for believing them when they pulled up my card information, address, and "my" magazine information.

As for the letter, I received mine AFTER this cancellation period you mentioned. But you know what's odd about that? It wouldn't have mattered if I had actually received it on time anyway, because everyone that I spoke to claimed that it wasn't possible to cancel the order---ever---regardless of whether or not it fell within a specific time frame.

Also, MC's website claims: "We will cancel your order and refund your account per your request." So what's the problem? I spoke with probably 3 different people who apparently haven't gotten the memo.

What's more, albeit on a completely different vein, your company doesn't know the meaning of customer service. When a supervisor refuses to give me information about their boss and refuses to give me a website, phone number, time to call (whether a day or a range)....and then hangs up on me, there's a problem. When someone tells me that they actually will send out information about a company and doesn't, there's a problem. When 166+ people have virtually the same complaint about a company, it's probably legitimate.

Even if all Americans WERE stupid (hypothetically), it still seems suspicious that they all seem to have the same problem under just about the same circumstances. And...that hypothetical is ridiculous. More plausible--ignorance about the ways that magazine companies like yours deceive, threaten, harass, and exploit their potential customers. Also plausible: some people weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. But 166? Thousands? Percentage of likelihood is dropping quickly.

Same deal as pretty much everyone else on this board, even into 2012! Terrible that this is still going on. Magazine Connection basically mislead me into believing that they were the magazine company that I currently have a subscription with (subscriber services)....and then they proceeded to ask usual questions like if I was receiving the magazines, etc. Sadly, I was tricked into the recording and a different card number than the one subscriber services has. I tried to ask them why they needed it and to explain the terms better to figure out what was going on, but they refused to answer directly....just kind of implied that I should know and that everything was as it was supposed to be.

I receive harassing calls occasionally, but the thing that is odd is that although they claim that they are charging my card 56 or something exorbitant like that a month, the charge never shows up on my account. They also claim that they cannot cancel it, despite the fact that their website states: "We will cancel your order and refund your account per your request."

Also, everyone that I have ever spoken to from MC has been extremely rude. One supervisor refused to give me information about the company (mainly the name and contact information of a supervisor above her), and hung up on me. This was ironic to me because if anyone should be frustrated and hanging up on anyone, it should be me! ^_^'

I filed a complaint on their website and I am also about to file a complaint with the BBB as suggested. Thanks for the support and help; I'm not the only one and I am not crazy!!

Btw, the number I had was 425-336-8014

I currently work for this company as a customer service supervisor. I have to say first off if you are willing to verify or even give your information to a telemarketer, your dumb.. We verify all our orders with a voice file that clearly states the terms and conditions of the contract, and you have to agree in order for there to be an account set up. So people, come on let's be smart and either hang up on them or realize what is being said to you... We also send a letter out allowing a full week for customers to cancel free of charge... You know how many customers just throw the letter away??? And lastly if for some reason the person is disabled or has a cognitive disorder  we cancel the account with no questions asked. I think honestly the general public needs to pay attention to where their money is going and they need to be smarter about who they verify information with... And please don't use the excuse "they made me do it" or "they wouldn't let me get off the phone" your in charge of your own choices, findncial decisions, and please no one is holding a gun to your head you could ask questions or better yet just hang up the phone.. Honestly the only reason why there are still telemarketing companies is because the majority of Americans are DUMB... If you would like to further discuss this matter feel free to contact me on our customer service line...

Hello Everyone,

I got tricked into giving all of my information last year in August. After 3months I realized this was all a scam and that they were stealing my money. I am a college student and have been desperately trying to figure out how to cancel my account with magazine connection. This is how I did it....
1. Contact your credit card company and try to explain what happened to you. If this doesn't work like it didn't for me, cancel your card immediately.
2. Magazine Connection will continue to call you. Pick up and tell them that they are stealing your money and that you are not getting what you want or that you never signed up with them in the first place.
3. File a complaint with Better Business Bureau ASAP!!! Here is a link: http://www.bbb.org/denver/business-reviews/ma ... ver-co-90107467
4. It will take them a while to respond but they will eventually contact you and cancel accounts. It took me at least 3months for a response.

During the time I was waiting for magazine connection's response I was sent several deliquency notices. Magazine Connection was getting annoyed and started to send me notices that they were going to turn me into a collection agency if I didn't pay $800+ dollars. I called and asked why it was so much and they claimed it was late fees and I asked them to send me a detailed bill but I never got one. I just got a letter stating that I needed to pay up $800+ dollars. I found out through a friend that it would cost more to report me to a collection agency then what I owed to magazine connection. I continued to wait it out and finally magazine connection contacted me via email and cancelled my account. I also received a cancellation confirmation in the mail.

Magazine Connection is currently being investigated by the Attorney General's office in Denver, Colorado so file a complaint with them too. Here is a link.... http://www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/depart ... s_telemarketing
The faster you act the better it will be for you. I had to deal with annoying phone calls and letters for months until I realized I had to file a complaint with BBB or the Attorney General's Office.

This will work for any person of any age/situation. Do not let them win. They will try everything in there books to get you to pay whatever! DO NOT GIVE IN! FIGHT!
Hope this helps you guys.

This company is a scam.  They do not have any of your information but get it out of you by asking certain questions. If you received a call from this company and have been signed up for service there a few things you can do. First fill a dispute or a chargeback with your card company or bank. Then file a complaint with the Attorney General in your state. The more complaints they receive then the easier it will be to shut the company down and more people are not screwed by this company.

And one more thing, at some point, she asked me a question to which my reply was "ok", and I could tell that she recorded me saying that. They are obviously trying to scam people. No doubt about it.

They have been calling me for months. I've always refused to give any information. Just today the guy was polite enough so I just verified my address and a few other harmless things. Then he said his supervisor would be calling back to make sure he was polite and courteous. The "supervisor" called back in about 3 minutes. She asked if the original guy was polite, then went off on another set of questions about which magazines I was receiving. I told her the name of one magazine I get. When I said that was all I receive, she told me that I should be receiving more, and wanted to know which ones I was NOT getting. I said I didn't know which magazines I am getting (I really don't know...my wife gets some too), she started naming off a bunch. Then she asked me how I was paying for them, and I stopped her to say this conversation was over because she obviously didn't know what she talking about. She said "you didn't know...you didn't know!" then hung up on me! I hope they keep calling. I am just going to start playing with them. This could be fun.

I have had these people calling me since August claming to be my magazine compay (which I do have one) so I didn't think anything of it. Until I started getting charged $40 a month plus what I was all ready paying to my company.  When I called to cancel they said it was $300 to cancel.  I called them again, talked to a different person and they said that it wasn't $300 and I could cancel at any time but wouldn't let me.  I ended up having to cancel my bank account so they couldn't take any more and they now will call 3-4 times a day, a few days a week and won't stop. I have nothing in writing, I have never recieved any of their magazines.  3 of the ones I am supposed to be getting, I get through my other company so it is just BS.  So from August-February I have been getting charged for magazines I have not even received.  I told them that and they said when my subscription is done with the other company then I will start recieving mine, I said so I am paying you for nothing then.  They had no comment to that.  My parents have even tried helping me by talking to them and these people are just blowing smoke.  They don't clarify who they are when they call and change their story.  I am not happy.  I will be happy when this is all over with.

I just got a call from these people today, saying it was Dave from the credit department.  I was bewildered given that I have no magazine subscriptions.  My first thought was that someone had stolen my identity and opened up a line of credit, but I thought it was kinda silly to start a magazine subscription with a stolen identity.  So, I asked them what their company name was and the guy responded "Magazine Connection".  Fortunately, I was sitting in front of my computer and googled that name, and this website came up as the first result.  Glad it did.  The number I got called from was 406-351-4048.

The same thing happened to me today.  They were VERY nice and polite, but clearly there was something fishy.  All of my magazines are paid for by someone else for my business.  I told them this and they finally hung up on me.  I did call the number of Magazine Connection listed above (303-623-3199), but they acted like I was crazy.  Never give out any info.  They wanted to know my age, if I used a credit or debit when eating out, etc.

There is a real "Magazine Connection" company in Colorado.  It's real number is 303-623-3199 and they would greatly appreciate anyone who is scammed/attempted to be scammed by the above numbers to please call them with all pertinent information so that they can persue their own investigation and prosecution of the people falsely using their company name.  I spoke with a supervisor named Amy.  I also verified that they were a "real" company using the BBB website before I called them and gave them the information I had.

I got the same call.  And I got the same thing but they got me.  They first claimed they were the company who had been sending me my magazines and I thought that this could be the case since I had been getting magazines for about 4 months and had recently moved.  They said that they were calling to make sure I was recieving my magazines.  Since I had just moved I thought that this was probably the case.  They asked if I lived at "such and such" address which was my old address.  I gave them my new address and asked if they could forward my magazines.  They said yes they would make sure that they would come to my new address.  They said the only thing that they needed from me was my credit card number.  Which for some reason I gave it to them.  Then they started charging my $49.90 per month.  Which was way more then I had been paying.  They continued to call very often trying to confirm that I was getting my magazines.  I told them no I wasn't and they asked me what magazines I should be recieving.  This went on for several weeks.  I never recieved the right magazines.  And the calls increased.  I cancelled my credit cards and told them I was going to stop paying them.  I told them this several times and they just said you can't cancel.  I said I'm not paying for magazines that I am not recieving.  They then threatened to turn me into a collection agency.  Can they do that.  How can I get my self out of this scam.  I mean you can get 5 magazines for a year for around $100.  They are trying to charge me $600.  This is a total Scam.  I would like to some how be apart of a class action law suit against them.  I'd rather pay a lawyer several hundred dollars and team up with other people being harrased by Magazine Connection and stop them from preying on people and committing fraud.

This is so true. I get the same calls from them with the exact phone numbers. I reside in Louisiana. I was harassed a long time ago and accidentally gave them my credit card number. they never charged anything on my account but since then, i get calls from them at least once a week about their stupid idiotic magazines. I still haven't changed my card number but I will. I spoke with my state attorney about these people and the way they get you is by recording your phone conversations. They say that the call is recorded for your safety but its actually a way to get you cornered in court. DONT speak with them; I warn you. Just tell them to go away. Change your number. and change your bank account/ card numbers.

This is definately a scam.  There are two numbers that call me:        720-353-4308 and 303-955-1983.  I'm sure they told me that they were with Publisher's Clearing House.  This is false.  This company is based in New York.  These calls come from Denver Colorado.  There are no magazine companies listed with these phone numbers.  No bills come in the mail, and nothing is done on-line.  All calls and no action....anywhere.  The 303 number is a landline, and the 720 number is a cell phone number through the carrier, Sprint.  There is no answer on the cell ever, and the 303 number is the same everytime: "The mailbox of (blank) is full, please hang up" True, they did have my address and old credit card number, but that probably came online. I was scammed.

Please, change your credit card numbers now.  If they continue to harrass, you will need to change your number, after that, they will be gone forever.  I will try to do whatever I can to report them to the authorities of colorado.  You have been warned.
