This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

Hello everyone i have read your guys/gals posts on this site and basically the same thing has happened to me as we speak. this number among others have been calling and telling me that they are from cash advance online and that i have taken and e signed a loan witch first of all i don't know who they are or what they are talking about. i never took money from no one online so they are dumb. I knew it was a scam when they called for the second time and said, " why u hung up on me." OK red flag no professional lawyer or law firm would talk to people like that. They were supposedly called from Hopkins Law firm. I researched this number and as what i expected this number are a fraud. i immediately called my work corporate office and explained the situation. be careful and don't give them no info. the other number that they tried using is 517 763 5000 beware  they didn't even want to give me as to when i took the loan or when i asked for a name they hung up. filling a police report for sure.

yep same as everyone else, they are trying to scamming you out of money.  I think they might get the info if you have ever set up a online payday loan.  Or I mean APPLIED for one.  They are stupid.  If they think I am just handing over money to someone I don't know I dont think so.

Prank Call
After I was on some sites and looking for a loan I found a site and filled it out. After the small print I cancelled the loan app. A few days later I started receiving threatening phone calls from this phone #. (724-261-3073) A man named "Andy Smith" will not stop calling and making threats. I don't want a loan from these people. I feel sorry for anyone else that cancels the loan form from these people. I just want the calls to stop. Stop the harassment. I also reported them to The National No Call list. Made a report at the local Police station. They still call and harass.

Hello everyone,
Guess what?  i think i got these guys to stop calling.  i filed a complaint with the FTC and i called the NYS atty generals office.  The Atty General's office said that there really isn't anything they can do but there is something that I could do>  i could harrass them back.  so i did.  after a day at my job with my incredibly kind hearted co workers who have good senses of humour and justice where these guys called about 600 times (no exaggeration) repeated calls over and over and over at our front desk.  i work at a long term care facility.  they tied up the lines and i just sat there with the receptionist and kept hanging up.  anyway, i went home and decided that i was going to use all of the minutes on my cell phone which is pay as you go.  and i went into combat mode. i called them over and over. i played really loud music (gangsta rap) in their ears.  i said insane things to them .  i used my craziest voices made it sound like i was completely unhinged.  i called for about four hours straight...kept calling and calling and teling them that this was going to be their lives if they called my job again. i identified myself too.  i called and called and called.  well yesterday, a co worker who was answering the phone before business hours said they called up said my name and called me a f%&$*@# W***e  (hahaha).  and there were two hang ups on my cell but that was it.  of course today could be another crazy day but i will do it again until they understand that they are not to call me anymore.  i know people don't have time for this, i am lucky that my life is pretty quiet in the evenings.  but it's worth it.  you have to be relentless though.  you have to make them think that you will call them forever if they don't stop.  YAY!!!!! oh and there's one more thing that we did here at my job that seemed to calm them down. (i couldn't do the whole fight back thing from work too busy and also i didn't want to risk making things worse - wasn't sure it would be effective)  anyway, we would pick up the phone and just listen and say nothing and then they would hang up and call again and we would repeat this.  arguing with them doesn't work. and just listening you can hear what is going on over there in their environment.  you can hear people talking in the back ground.  anyway, i think i have PTSD behind this.  haha. good luck

called my work literally 600 times today.  unbelievable.  I filed a complaint with the FTC and called the atty general's office. I was told there is nothing they can do because these are overseas calls even if they seem like they are from Pennsylvania.  they do not like to be harassed back though. so if you have the time and inclination...I called them many times over and over and blasted music and hung up and called again.  I think eventually they will give up.  however, I feel sorry for people who will get in trouble at work because it's very disruptive to the work place.  luckily my boss is understanding and so are the co workers.  tomorrow is another day and i'm ready.  i'm going to get them to stop.

I got a call from this number today at my job. I work in the medical field, and do not have time for this. Some guy by the name of Paul Jones. Can not speak English, and was very rude. I couldn't understand what they wanted or what he was even saying. I couldn't even make out what company he said he was with.

The person who calls from this number always uses a very generic sounding name, but uses different ones occassionally. I have heard both Austin Smith and Gary Jones now. His calls always have lots of background noise. He asks for one person in specific at our company but will call REPEATEDLY. He called me a liar when I told him the person was unavailable, and told me he wants to speak with my manager. After I hung up on him he continued to call over and over again, but luckily with the background noise I was able to identify that it was him and kept hanging up without giving him a chance. He eventually stopped, but then called back later in the day using a different tactic - he asked for my name and then complimented me thinking he could dupe me into transferring the call HAHA. Anyway, very obnoxious, repetitive and unwanted.

Prank Call
Received a call - Andy Smith from law firm Hopkins law firm- called back to get a "Gary"- rude- very broken english- told me to "pay my bills" and I wouldn't recieve his call. I asked what I owed and to whom- he rattled off some company I've never heard of. I told him he was not to call my place of employment and told him I would be filing a police report and reporting him to the BBB- he said "good luck with  that; and I'd be sorry.
I'm more than sure this is a scam- profession people do not speak to people using his tone or attitude.
Hope they are stopped before they scam others out of their money!
