When they called me I gave them tons of bs information. I then called usaa to give them a hard time. I asked usaa to use their bad data if they wanted... I told usaa that I had them put all my vehicles all over the counry, added rate reduction features to them like tracking system, etc. I told them that I was putting storage on 3 vehicles and100 miles a year on the fourth, mmmm... ,my place of residence is made up (zip code and all!) I spoke to usaa manager and removed my name from psi contacts.

If people didn't lie to their insurance companies than maybe they wouldn't have to use companies like PSI not to mention if you fraud or even attempt to fraud your insurance company, you can be prosecuted. I don't know much about PSI as company but I can assure you that they are not doing anything illegal. Oh and by the way, names, drivers license information, dates of birth, and addresses etc.that is all public information.

Yes this is a legit USAA call and YES it is also a scam.

They try to "update your auto insurance information" once a year in an attempt to trick you into higher insurance premiums.  There is no need for this unsolicited call they do EVERY year.  They are the ONLY company that does this too as far as I know.

Farmers was a cheaper quote than USAA....they are no longer the cheapest out there and if this kind of scumbag tactic is kept up I will happily switch to another company.

This number is for PSI, a "vendor" USAA uses OUR premium money (we are shareholders in the company, right?) to call and try and jack up our rates.  PSI gets a percentage of the increase.  I refuse to talk to them or fill out their idiotic survey. I do NOT appreciate USAA giving out my personal cell phone number.

I blocked this number. USAA already has the info they need to keep my account up to date.

Interestingly, after they called ten times and were blocked every time, suddenly. I've had a huge upsurge in scam calls. "Free" cruises, fake police groups asking for donations, even the Indian computer-virus scam. From zero calls a day, now I'm getting 3 or 4 a day from all sorts of scumbags.

Coincidence? I think not. I think PSI gets revenue by selling your number to other phone scammers. Definitely sleazy.

Yes, they are legit. And yes, they are total scumbags. They are calling to see if you will reveal anything about your situation that changes your insurance rating, so they can raise your rates. PSI makes its money by taking a cut of every increase they discover. All this has nothing to do with you actually having coverage... once the company writes you the policy, they have to honor it. Basically, this is how USAA audits their agents, who sometimes list people in lower ratable brackets to cut them a break on their insurance. But if you tell PSI that you drive 40 miles to work, and your agentrated you at 20 miles, them your insurance will go up. If you tell them that your kid just turned 17, even if he/she is not driving your car, your insurance will go up.

Not to mention that the founders (I think their son runs it now) are ethically void and treated employees like crap.

You don't have to answer their questions. So don't.

As soon as PSI started calling me (and I blocked them, I don't do surveys), suddenly I started getting an onslaught of calls from phony charities, "you won a free cruise!", "marketing survey," "carpet cleaning in your area" and other scumbags.

Coincidence? I don't think so. I think PSI is selling our info to anyone who wants it. All the more reason to block their calls. USAA already has my info, no need to talk to a third party.

I am retired Federal Law Enforcement and a 25 yr member of NFCU  and  just joined USAA.  After my wife had a recent accident withe her Volvo  this PSI company started calling, I explained to them because of the nature of my former job I will NOT be answering any telephone inquiries . Good; they said they will send me a mailer inquiry and I MUST comply by March 9th 2014.
I got the inquiry  it had a USAA  introductory  letter and I passed it over to my ATTY( for review)  who told me do NOT comply with any of their inquiries. My ATTY told me to go on the USAA website  and OPT out of any 3rd party marketing , its  under the preferences section on their main page AFTER you log in.  My ATTY also noted that the business reply permit envelope witch has the  name USAA and the ulmerton road Largo Florida address may be a VIOLATION of USPS regulations if USAA has no legal office in Florida at that location.  He advised me that any USAA member sent this letter  could  file a complaint with the US Postal Inspection service and let them sort it out . Is this an example of MAIL FRAUD or illegal Redirected mail!  So far I haven't hear from  PSI in the last 30 days either..

This is a known number for a call-center contractor used by insurance companies to update insurance info.  Right now they are being used by USAA to update policy holder info.

Again, USAA does use them and is using them now.  USAA even sent a letter last week telling us that  these folks would be calling us to update information.

Same thing as last year and the year before.

You can always call USAA at the regular number to update if you are uncomfortable about using the contractor.

After double checking the return Letter with Google the return letter says USAA but the address is the Address of PSI INc in Largo, Florida , I wonder if it is legal to put a false address of a company (especially a vendor)  on a Business Reply Permit  address that is sanction by the US postal service.  This seems to be  a fraudulent re-drection of mail.  Think I will forward this to the US postal service now..

PSI is both a telemarketer and  Profiting survey company according to their website

now 2 months later psi sends me a letter on USAA stationary but being mailed back to USAA requesting information to be filled out . My attorney says I have NO OBLIGATION to comply with this inquiry. So  I am not. They asked if we have any student drivers  (no)  why we have 4 cars but drive only 2 mainly.. the 2 we mainly drive are 4 Wheel drive we live in area or 4 seasons!   Now they want to know what mileage amounts and whether our vehicle has tracking devices and subscription for tracking devices are still in force.  How do I know yearly mileage amounts if  I have had vehicle only 6 months?

Like my attorney says.. don't fill this out it is not binding and DON't answer any calls on telephone they can RECORD without your permission.

"...they did not try to obtain any personal information ... only information to verify your mileage driven per vehicle per year and if they are located at your home or parked at another location which affects your premium."

Sounds like personal information to me and that's between me and USAA.  It's the reason they have a website.  There's no legitimate nor logistical reason to involve a third party company.

USAA is an insurance and banking company that focuses primarily on servicemen, servicewomen, and their families for customers.  One of the things that they drill into your head before receiving a DOD security clearance is to never, ever, EVER participate in surveys - especially over the phone.  That's good advice for anyone IMO.

I'm sure it's legit, but why do you need to update your insurance information with a third party over the phone when you can do it yourself on usaa.com?  Introducing a third party only increases the risk of data leakage, abuse, and incompetence.  I don't risk it.

My advice for USAA members:
1) Politely but firmly reply that you do not wish to be contacted again.
2) Login to the website and go to  usaa.com/optout  to opt out of the marketing and flow of information options.

USAA should call with a caller ID that is identifiable.  They "verify" your records, so they can increase coverage, and charge you more.

If you read your mail from USAA ... they said a Third Party will be calling you to verify your Auto Policy information. If you do not want to talk to the Third Party you could call USAA directly. I'm in Law Enforcement and they did not try to obtain any personal information ... only information to verify your mileage driven per vehicle per year and if they are located at your home or parked at another location which affects your premium.

Yes.  This is a legitimate company that updates policy information on behalf of USAA.
I received a letter in the mail from USAA letting me know that this company would be calling.
They also provided a number that I could call myself.
They did their job.  Asked about my auto insurance, # drivers, stuff like that but no personal info like
social security number, etc.

@kurtiekins... They use the contact info you provided.  At some point you gave them the number. If you don't want them to use it go to your member profile and remove it.

To all those who post that it is a scam, you are just wrong. You are either a liar or a troll trying to incite the people on the message board.

Yep I am with you. Not only am I on the Do Not Call list, but I NEVER answer a single landline or cell call without a proper ID. I don't care WHO it is. If it's super important I will screen and get back to the person. I've done enough research on this TOTALLY LEGIT issue and I refuse to play. Period. So f*** off PSI!

We too have been with USAA for a VERY long time. We received no notification, but just got the same call as everyone else herein. Anti-scam teaching 101 says NEVER to call back an unfamiliar number - the message left provided 1-888-734-8722, which I'm pretty sure is not the same as 1-800-531-USAA. I burned about half an hour actually getting a person at the latter (strike one), and another half an hour (strike two) explaining why this was absolutely unacceptable to me. In recent years we have seen USAA decline in both their service and behavioral levels, which is fast approaching strike three. Premium prices for so-so insurance is giving me a frowner face.

I personally don't care if their contracted by USAA or not. I'm not giving someone my information when I call USAA directly and they say there's no updated required. Obviously there was no NEED for them to call me multiple times. I am now on the USAA "do not call list" for the contractor. Didn't even know they had one or have to ask, the USAA employee did it automatically. I wouldn't trust that contractor to take nearly as much care with PII (personally identifiable info.) as USAA themselves. As adults you all can make your own decisions as I made mine.

Called USAA and they indeed said it was legit - 3rd party company that does annual information collection for their policy holders.  They call us every year but figured I'd check just in case.  My rates have never increased based on the information I've provided them.
