Received a call from "Norman" as well. Gave me this as a call back number. I was an IT tech support person earlier in life. I knew it was a scam seconds into the call. Since I am home sick with nothing better to do, I kept him on the line for half an hour. Kept playing stupid and giving vague answers.
After the half hour mark, I told him I had a secret to tell him, that I was also an IT tech support person. He then transferred me to his supervisor who was a total asshat. He just kept telling me to "f**k your mother"... I thanked him for his time and reminded him to filter his water so his children don't end up with birth defects. He pretty much lost his mind when I said that so I hung up.
Productive day. :)

I have just received a call from a guy with a very strong accent.  He said he was from a Windows Service Center - Micfosoft.  He said i have been downloading viruses and that he will help me clean them up.  Needs a technician to connect to my computer.  He had my computer license number - as a proof that he was legit.  I asked him for a phone number so that i can call him back.  He gave me the phone and then started shouting that they are obviously legit since he now gave me a phone number.  It was 727-450-7681.  These guys are obviously pretty sophisticated since this scam may be more believable to some folks that the Walmart call which asks for a credit card.  If i were not a computer person myself, i might have fallen for it.  I wish this could be publicized beyond this website.

I did not allow the remote access they were after so I think I'm good. He told me "I'll give you my number, name, and id so you can sue me" when I questioned him about the oddity od this call...jerk!

I got a call advising that that he was calling from microsoft and my computer was infected with a virus and I needed to follow his instructions to rid the computer of these viruses.  I asked for a phone number and he gave me the727-450-7681 and said his name was Norman.  I told him I would call him back and he argued that I needed to take immediate action.  He knew my first name which I don't ordinarily use.

A foreign guy who could not speak english very well, I believe he was Arab, called and said we won a WALMART gift card for 400 in store and gas card for 200. They said it is a 1.95 for shipping they asked for how to spell my name and address and I gave it to them. I said okay i will pay cash and they insisted in using a credit card. It sounded like a scam so i asked for his name he said it was Rudy Wilson and I new that was a lie and I asked for a number to call back to verify this was real because the number came up unknown and he started cursing me out and harassing me and calling and leaving messages. It is a SCAM!

I received an unsolicited call from a person claiming to be a Wal-Mart representative, and informing me that I had been selected to receive a $200 gas card good at any gas station in the state of Wisconsin, and a $200 gift card good at any Wal-Mart.  My name was supposedly chosen as one of 200 winners in the state to celebrate Wal-Mart's 35 year anniversary.

The caller was nearly impossible to understand, as his command of the spoken English language was horrible.  I was then transferred to his 'supervisor' who was able to convey the message somewhat better, but still with a very strong accent. Nearly everything had to be repeated 2>3 times to be understood.

Havign great doubts about this entire matter, I asked for a call back number and the name of the individual who claimed to be calling from the Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.  The number was 727-450-7681.  While still listening to the caller, I checked the phone directory and found that 727 IS NOT an Arkansas area code.  I asked the caller about the descrepancy, but was assured that it was in Arkansas.  I told them that I would check with the local Wal-Mart and then call "Brian Clark" back.

The local Wal-Mart manager was very interested in my phone call, and while she called the number I was given, I looked up the area code on Google.  Low and behold, I found this web site, the location of the 727 area code (Clearwater, Largo, and Palm Harbor, Florida), and all of the tales of woe that went with it.

The local Wal-Mart manager was unable to reach anyone at the number, as it required a 4-digit access code.

The 'personal' information that the caller discussed with me is available on any number of web sites, not to mention a phone book.  It was basically my name, phone number, and address.

I did not provide any information, and am safe from further problems.  PLEASE, use caution with any unsolicited phone calls!
