the number is from Clearwater, Florida in the Pinellas county... will do more investigating and post additional information later.  do not validate your number by replying--that's what they want you to do.

Got text offering $1,200 loan from 727-515-0402.

Reporting it to your cell phone provider helps, however do not respond to the text. It only validates your number to them and that's what they want you to do.

AT&T mobile users: if you get a text from them report it by forwarding the SMS to AT&T at 7726 (SPAM).  You will receive a reply asking for the number that sent the SPAM.  Here's more information http://tinyurl.com/4ssrubx

IMHO the best thing to do here is to make sure that your phone number is registered in the national Don't Call database registry. Supposedly this opts you out from any unwanted calls (and presumable text messages as well), be it telemarketing, etc.
If your number is registered, than you can report an offending phone number to the registry.
BTW, I got a text message from this number, too (727-515-0402) over the weekend and I'm going to report them!

I got the same thing. Sending STOP  does nothing.  I've gotten the same from more than one number. It's some spamming group I think. I called the number and I was sent to a voice-mail box that was not set up yet; blocking incoming messages.
I've ignored at first, then sent STOP. It's useless.
Good Luck, this next month may suck. As I type this I'm thinking now of calling AT&T to ask if the number can be blocked from my texting.

Don't know how they got my number, but just received this SMS text message:

Does anyone know if replying will let these spammers know that they reached a valid number and thus send more spam? Or will replying STOP actually make them stop?
