My Mom just got a call from this number too(727-683-0150), as she did several weeks ago, and if this "Really Is' an inside Pinellas County Jail phone number, then the only thing I can think of is that it really is someone in jail custody, but they're dialing the wrong number, or the number they're calling used to be assigned to someone they know. I don't get into trouble, at least not anymore, and it's pretty bad when the caller from this number says, "Mom, it's me. Pick up ", and then my Mom's in a panic really thinking it's me. My Mom said that there was an automated thing tho, that was asking for a credit card number, which I do find as weird. Oh well, being how this is the 2nd time happening, in about 3 weeks, it's time to get her a new number, as the number she now has was just assigned to her with the phone I got her- about 3 weeks ago. I would like to know if it's really the Pinellas County Jail though, and a reverse phone look up doesn't give that info.

I recieved a call from this #. Im glad i didnt answer it. I dont want contact from any criminals or scammers. I almost fell for an emergency "hurry and dial back this # your family member is in the hospital and needs consent immediatly" Lucky I realized it started with a call forwarding # or I would have been paying for some thugs calls to his girl! I blocked and phoned her and told her I was an employee at the prison and she quickly hung up. I keep my ringer off now and only respond to people I know. Ive been getting dozens of scam or sales calls from 8am to 10;30 at night.

this is a legit number for the pinellas county jail's inmate phone service provider. It is a voice over IP phone system so as person mentioned before, they are calling someone they think they know. Its not a scam and there is a message that tells you to press 7 if you dont want to continue to receive these calls. Listen to the recording.

O and one other thing the reason it is a dead silence when you call the number back is because the inmates can call out but no one can call in.

I hate to break it to you, but, the only way to receive calls of any sort from an inmate in pinellas county jail is to call the jail, have them give you the number for a third party billing, have them set up a prepaid account with your home number and/or cellphone number so inmates can call you. So in light of this information, if your wife is receiving phone calls on her cell phone and you are receiving them on your home phone, she most likely had this information set in play for someone in jail. You should take a look at the people who know her who are possibly incarcerated. The jail can't do anything to help you out she will have to contact the third party provider and get her service cancelled. No bones about it, either she did this, you did this, or someone who wants to pay the bill for you and for some strange reason thought it funny to have an inmate call your home has done this. Good Luck

I received about eight of these calls on my cell in one day.  I do not pick up if I do not recognize the number and, since there were so many with the same exchange, I looked it up and it brought me here.

It kind of freaked me out, since I was attacked by three men a few months ago and they are currently in the Pinellas Co. Jail awaiting trial.  However, I do have a new cell phone, and I receive a lot of texts for the wrong person and "wrong number calls', so it is probably just a stale number situation.  I only received these calls one day.  I saved them, assigned a "silent ring" and that was that, but it did freak me out for a bit because of what I recently went through.  Probably an unfortunate coincidence though.  Had the timing been different, it probably would not have phased me.

The same thing was happening to me..it's a scam..the inmates randomly dial numbers, then if someone accepts and the cc number is in the system with a pin, the inmate can use it to make as many calls as they want!!

Call 727-535-1243 and ask for ED..he is "the phone guy" at the jail who can block your number.  I called and took care of it.

Oh and more more thing, I do believe the inmate CANT leave a message unless you first make a prepaid account, and i think only one time i was able to hear my friends, the inmates, name when asked to accept the collect call and i do think that was only after i set up the account. And actually i just got the call from my friend again just now, two times in a row and they can quickly say something like their name, something thats only like "one Mississippi" in length, the call starts when you say hello and only connects if you have money in a prepaid account.

I would not set up an account unless you KNOW for sure that someone you know of is in that jail. Even then im pretty sure you have to know their docket number to set up and account so they can get through to you. (Its been a year since i last put money in for my friend so i dont really remember the process)

For me this call I know is not a scam, I had a friend who went to Pinellas County Jail and I had to set up a prepaid account in order to talk to them. You wont really get anywhere if you try to call the number back because it kind of connects through a 3rd party, the call is only connected to your phone number through Global Tel*link. I got this number before and I got it again because the same friend is back in jail. So either you know someone in jail, someone is accidentally calling your number and doesn't realize it OR some inmate is bored. There is more info at http://www.gtl.net/ but here is the jist of it:
This is what is on the website:

INMATE PREPAY OPTIONS - GTL offers inmates the ability to purchase prepaid calling vouchers from the facility or commissary. This option permits direct dialing, complete call control and always increases revenue for the facility.
LAZERPHONE® PREPAY DEBIT ACCOUNTS
LazerPhone® offers two prepay options through its integrated Debit Account system: direct deposit, which is managed through the LazerPhone® workstation, and prepaid KEEP IN TOUCH? Vouchers that inmates may purchase from the facility, or the facility´s commissary, and "cash" at inmate telephones. To use either prepay option, an inmate must have a LazerPhone® PIN account. (Note: A facility may choose to assign PINs to all inmates for better control of phone usage,or may assign PINs only to inmates wishing to make prepaid calls.)

When LazerPhone®´s Debit system is active, at the beginning of each call attempt, if the inmate chooses the prepaid call type, the system´s automated operator reports the current balance in the inmate´s prepaid account. If the balance is sufficient, the cost of the current call can be automatically deducted from the account. Inmate debit accounts can be added, updated, deleted, or closed at the LazerPhone® workstation.
CALL CONTROL
Because this prepaid option operates on Global Tel*Link´s platform, prepaid calls are subject to the same call controls as collect calls. Prepaid calls must be validated before the system will connect the call. Once connected, the call is subject to the facility?s call-duration restrictions, time-of-day restrictions, blocked-number restrictions, and all other call-restrictions.

GENERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION INFORMATION
Be wary of inmate calls that request you to dial *72 followed by a new ten-digit number. Completing this request will result in the forwarding of your telephone number to a number of the inmate's choosing, and all calls to your true telephone number will be automatically forwarded to the new number without your knowledge. The only way to reverse the forwarding of calls to a new number is to dial *73.

OK PEOPLE, EVIDENTLY YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS IN JAIL AND THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT YOU. THE PHONE SYSTEM THEY ARE USING IS GIVING YOU AN INFORMATIVE SUGGESTION ON HOW TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE CALLS FROM YOUR FRIEND OR FAMILY WHO IS TRYING TO REACH YOU. THESE ARE NOT HARASSMENT CALLS. WHEN AN INMATE CALLS YOUR CELL PHONE, YOU HAVE TO ESTABLISH A PREPAID ACCOUNT WITH THE SERVICE COMPANY AND THEN ONLY THE PERSON YOU KNOW CAN THEN CONTACT YOU AND ONLY TO THE NUMBER YOU GIVE THEM. SO YOU WOULD NOT BE CALLED BY RANDOM PEOPLE, EACH INMATE HAS AN ASSIGNED NUMBER CALLED A PIN TO USE WHEN MAKING A CALL. I KNOW THERE ARE ALOT OF SCAMS OUT THERE BUT THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS TRYING TO REACH YOU!

Jail inmates across Florida have been tapping into the residential phone lines of unsuspecting people to make long-distance calls, officials said.

The inmates make collect calls at random, then persuade the unwitting person on the line to press star-72 and the number to the pay phone at the jail. That forwards the victim's line to the jail phone and gives the inmate repeated access to the residential line to make calls - including long-distance calls.

The Miami-Dade County jail has been getting complaints from victims for about a year, spokeswoman Janelle Hall said. She didn't know the total number.

Some were scammed out of hundreds of dollars' worth of long-distance calls.

The jail added a warning to its collect call message that says dialing star-72 could make the person a victim of a scam. But victims don't pay attention, she said.

"The main thing to do is just don't accept the call," Hall said.

The scam also occurs at other jails, she said. (In the past year, there have been numerous reports of people in the Tampa Bay area being victimized by such a scam.)

Joan Church, of Williston in Levy County, said she received an unnerving call from Miami two weeks ago.

"The man told me there had been an accident involving two men and two women," Church said. "He said: "You need to call this number and ask for Dr. Allen."'

The anonymous caller told the 62-year-old retired widow to dial star-72, then call a phone number with a 305 area code.

Church said she has a son living in Homestead and thought she was dialing a hospital number.

Eventually, she called the phone company and learned she had activated call forwarding. She is still waiting for her phone bill to find out how many calls were made on her line.

State prisons have stopped similar scams by preventing inmates from unrestricted collect calling and three-way calling, said Debbie Buchanan, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Corrections.

It's a real number...it's how inmates call out from the Pinellas County Jail.  It isn't a scam...Global Telink is what they are trying to get your to sign up for and that is legitimately how you talk to the inmates.  I know, I've already set up an account with them.  I, however, do not have any idea why you would be getting so many calls or why the person isn't identifying themselves.  Also, if you listen to the recording, there should be a number to press to block inmate calls if you don't want them calling anymore.
