Lou, I think they are trying to buy items and then send someone to pick them up, then saying something about needing the seller to pay the pickup person.  From the message above, it sounds like he sends a fake payment to pay pal to convince you the money is there hoping you will hand over cash and your item to the 'buyer'.  Stay away, and don't even answer the email, that way they don't have your email address.

I also am dealing with this and I'm "suppose" to get my check this Monday. I plan on turning mine ove to FBI and police too.... Just wish here was a way to scam this person out of their scams!!! It disgusts me to think about these people trying to take advantage of innocent sellers and buyers.

I did the same thing... Not thinking about a scam. As long as you didn't give out your ss number or bank account, I don't think there is much that can be done. I want to know if checks ever show up or moving companies, these people needed to be busted big time.

I got the same email today from my Craigs List post.  It was from a Kimberly Taylor instead.  Obviously a scam.  Do  these people have anything better to do?  I did not get a phone number though.  What I don't understand is most people (myself included) on Craigs List require cash upfront.  No paypal, checks, etc.  How do these people expect to scam you?

I have gotten several scams on Craigs List in the past.  The scams seem to increase as you offer something for more than a few hundred dollars.  I have sold many things for less than $100 with no problems.  Nice people and they pick up the item with cash.  Do scammers have a money amount threshold?

I got all the same emails and also went thru even with receiving the check for my goods. It has been turned over to the USPS Inspectors for mail fraud as well as turned everything over to Local Police and the FBI. the number Tom used for me is a New York Cell- 1-646-571-8415. Will keep posting as I get reports back.

Hi - I smelled this one a mile away.  Anytime they don't mention what "your item" is, or ask any questions about it, I'm suspicious and don't respond.  It's rare that I look them up, but "Elvis Kareem" was curious to me, so here I am.

What the scam is:  They send you a check/money order/etc, sometimes for more than the purchase price. Sometimes you return the overpayment (you send them actual money) before you find out that their instrument actually bounced and you are out the real money you sent them.  Sometimes they actually have you ship whatever it is they've purchased before you find that their instrument bounced.  So you're out your product, shipping costs and bounced check fees.  

Things to look out for:

1. not mentioning what your item is - "Is your item still available?" - is a dead giveaway

2. a sense of urgency without any questions about what they're buying - "Your price is good to me and I want to buy it.  Get back to me ASAP"

3. their first response to your ad includes their email address and directs you to mail them directly

I received the same e-mail and i didn't realize it was a scam at the time. I gave him my address, phone number, and. name. I am worried now. What do you think he can do with my information.

This was a response to my $350 Craigslist Sofa ad, found his eagerness to buy it and willing to pay ahead of time to be very suspicious so I did a quick google search of his name and was lead here. I am unsure how his scam works, would love it if someone could explain, but I will not be responding to his email.

Same message here. Didn't reply, especially because it was an area code I never heard if and the name on the email was "Elvis" and they signed their name at the end of the name differently. It's those Nigerian scams. They'll take your money and unfortunately some people fall for it. Too bad they don't know how to make an honest living.

Just got the same msg from this Nigerian scumbucket in response to my craigslist ad. Looked them up on Google and found their FB and Twitter sites to look as phony as their response. This is when you really want a gun.

I received two messages identical to Lisa K's above, except the business email that was to be cc'd was elvis@sedaostudios.com.  I emailed back before researching and started to get suspicious when he/she didn't "get back right away".  Does anyone know if this puts me at risk?  I changed my CL password, though I'm not sure if they are phishing for money or to use people's accounts to create fraudulent posts.

Just received the same message yesterday about my $750 TV and entertainment center, saying exactly everything that y'all have been posting. He even said he'll throw in an additional $30 to not sell it to someone else. Someone has tried to scam me before so I always Google the persons info before doing anything further, unless they give cash in hand and personally pick it up.
