I just chanced upon this web site. I wrote the # down (727-862-7228) after receiving a call on 7/26/2011 at 6:25pm. The gentleman that made the call didn't realize that my phone had went to voicemail, he can be heard in the background talking with a female about a "Pete or Peter" stating that "he hates when Peter does (S***!) like that" and "he doesn't know what the (F***!) he is thinking sometimes".  I've had this on my voice mail and kept it just in case PAC calls back.

These guys really need to watch what they say while on the phone.....

The PAC call from this number 727-862-7228 called before. I stated my Husband was not home, and would not take the call. I also stated that they could mail us information. Instead, they called back, asked for Bill, and when I said he could not come to the phone, they said "we'll call back". I asked "who is this please?" He said just a courtesy call. I said" please tell me who you are". He hung up in my ear!

I get a call from this number daily.  No answer and don't want anymore of these calls.

Sounds like this is not legit.  I was trying to find a phone number on the statement I just received from them-looks legit. All numbers are busy.  They did say that this fund is for all police offices and yet the local police has never heard of it.  Scam?

I believe some of these are recorded messages and the computer probably doesn't pick up on it when you say hello.  I just received a call here in NC and I let them do their thing, but once I get the info in the mail, I will send some of these comments back to them in the envelope instead of the money they have requested.  I hope they don't really think we would fall for anything like this through a phone call. I have told them before that the state or county should be looking out for these officers and they families in the event of an officer's death.  Sure, I would be willing to support a local fund raiser, but who wants to give their hard-earned money to just anyone these days?

What makes me mad is the fact that I have relatives in Florida, where this number originates, what if something happened to one of them and I called back thinking the worst, only to find out i've been had.

I called and called AND CALLED 727-862-7228 Mr Mark Poteat and no one answers the Phone..No VM ....I being married to a police Detective have no problem telling you to "bug off" you won't stop calling and I have nicely ask you people to, but you don't...so we are turning this over to the Local authorities to investigate the fact that not only your "business" is a embaressment to the Force but that you are harrasing my family...Mr Poteat ...Non profit does not mean nonsense STOP CALLING ME EVERY THREE DAYS ...I mean it!!

I live in NC and just received a phone call from Pol A (727)862-7228.  When I asnwered, they evidently didn't know I had picked up and continued to have a conversation in the background.  I said hello and he continued to talk to someone else, I thought it was one of the prank calls from one of the cell phones. So I put it  on speaker phone and he finally notices I am on the line.  He definitely had a noticable accent.  He said he was collecting money for the local law enforcement.  I told him I had already donated to my local law enforcement.  He said it was for the whole state.  I then say well, what state because I know this is not an area code from NC.  He said NC and that he moved down here from NY.  I asked where in NC and he said Winston-Salem.  I finally tried to end  the call by saying I had already made donations for the year, again.  He said to keep them in mind for next year.  I thought it was scam from the beginning.  Then I looked it up and here I am.  Be Ware!

Live in Illinois they called I did not answer. This is 3rd party & your police officers never see a dime.

Got a call tonight from this number. Man gave his name and then told me that this recorded call was to thank me for supporting the police... at which point I told him "I sure do. I pay taxes" and I hung up. Next time I think I'll let them go on a while and then play the do-not-call card.

The only reason we don't leave a message is because if we spend time leaving messages, that's less chance of helping progress our readyUSA campaign.

Also, the caller id issue is something we're working on. That is Verizon's mess up, it should be fixed soon.

OK, first off, there are no outside telemarketers.  I know, because I am currently employed by the police assistance coalition. I know that many people receive calls asking for someone else, but the lists are rather old. Please, on behalf of the people trying to do a job, do not be rude. I can't tell you how painful it is to have the phone slammed down in my ear. We use a headset, so we can't just drop the phone. Now, as far as the call list. We don't have a virtual phone book, the system calls on a numerical basis. Ninety percent of the calls we make are numbers that have no service. I understand that the calls are annoying, and I personally want to apologise for those who have asked to be removed and received further calls. I make sure that people who ask it are put on our do not call list. As for the national do not call list, we are a true non profit organization. Every call that we make is recorded, so anyone who needs to can listen to every word we say. If you read this, and disagree, call tomorrow and ask to talk to mark poteat. I'll be there.

In my opinion, no legit charity will call-canvas for money - if they are large enough to afford to buy a calling list (those things aren't cheap!) they're large enough for a direct mail campaign, and know enough to go with the latter option.

I am in NC as well.  This has been happening not only from "Mary Lindsay" but others as well.  I yell hello after the first time (I have been actively looking for employment since January 2010) and by the fourth time disconneted.  What happened to the DO NOT CALL REGRISTRY.  I thought it might have been a potential employer/recruiter.

I didn't answer the phone and decided to google it... Brought me to this site.  Then,here's a crazy thing...  I did a reverse directory and the phone number appears to belong to an elderly couple in FL.
