the do not call list is a JOKE --- Congress exempted EVERYONE from it, either by allowing certain types of organizations to call (political, charity, business you already do business with -- credit card companies, phone companies, etc.) or by making obeying the do not call list VOLUNTARY!!!   I have asked several telemarketer scumbags to stop calling and remove my name and phone number from their list -- they STILL call.   The only thing you can do is to report the phone number to your state attorney general, the attorney general in the state from which they call, and the Federal Trade Commission.  Don't bother trying to get the phone company to block the number for you --- they make you jump through ALOT of hoops to get that done.

My advice:  get caller ID (if you don't have it and can afford it) and an answering machine (again, if you don't have one and can afford one) and use the caller ID to see who's calling -- don't recognize the number?  don't answer it, let the answering machine screen the call --- if it's not a telemarketer scumbag, they will leave a message.
