They are not "exempt" from predatory, abusive, exploitative business practices. If you request from any telemarketer under any disguise of charity or survey, to be placed on a do not call list, that's exactly what it means. All law abiding, professional and ethical businesses will abide by a do not call request. If you hear that they're exempt from some dirtball telemarketer, they are NOT a law abiding, professional, and ethical business and make complaints to all state and federal consumer protection agencies.

See postings below. This is a for-profit company that collects donations, sells them and gives 20% to the non-profit organizations that contract it, like veterans' organizations. The non-profits charitable organizations look at it like 20% of something is better than 100% of nothing. I answered and donated a kidney. So far they have not been by to collect. Probably trying to figure out how to get their 80% share.

Do the "organizations" not realize that they are turning off potential donors due to their association with Greendrop?
| Rachel 2014-05-29 16:58:53 Unknown |
The government does not care. Think about the last time the FTC or FBI did anything about mass marketing fraud or bait and switch operations. The government organizations do not care about the grifters running phone scams and bothering millions of Americans.
SIDENOTE: Do not be fooled, telemarketers can trick you into calling them and act as if they are the company you dialed! They do this when you misdial a phone number and when they spoof other numbers, you could be calling the VA, IRS, SS, disability, unemployment offices or just calling the number on the back of your credit card/debit card/gift card and hundreds of legitimate companies such as Bank of America, Chase, Capital One, Progressive, AFLAC and hundreds of other companies! Bottom line, the company rep you reach should say not only their name AND their company name. You should not have to ask, if you have the wrong company or they did not proactively say the company name, HANG UP! Do not listen to their pitch, they are lying, scheming telemarketers tricking people into calling in because people are not often answering their calls now. You have been warned.

Yes, I got a call from Greendrop, LLC and I picked up and told them to stop calling. I have never done any sort of business with them and never will.

GreenDrop, LLC is a contractor that manages donations in the Northern-Virginia area for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and probably others across the Nation. They are yet another nuisance-caller that happens to be ?exempt? from the Do Not Call list!

I just received a call from Greendrop, LLC. What a pain in the rear.

They have called me before from 757 233 9146 even though I have asked them not to call back. They hang up when the answering machine starts so you get a blank message. So I called them back wanting to know why they are calling me. Woman hung up. I called back. A different woman hung up. I called back. A different woman answered. I advised her that I shouldn't be getting these calls since I have asked them not to call. She transferred me to another woman who really couldn't help. She wasn't a manager, the manager had left for the day, said it was 5 o'clock (actually wasn't 5 yet). I asked for the manager on duty, she said the manager left. I asked for the manager in charge now she said not available. She wanted my info but I told her I had given it before and requested no more calls but I still get them. She was getting upset, raised her voice a number of times and eventually hung up on me. They are in Chesapeake Va.
Best thing - call them back. Keep them on the line. Keep asking them questions. Don't hang up on them, let them hang up on you. They don't like these annoying calls either.

These messages must be working because now their caller ID is "Greendrop, LLC."

I agree with you & based on your posting, I called them back. The Bottom Line: 20 percent from reselling your donated items goes to the organization! I was on another phone call when the call waiting beeped; I suspected the call was from a telemarketer when I saw the words VIRGINIA DONOR on my caller I.D. but let it go to my Voice mail ~ they did not leave a message. I entered the phone number into my tablet & have been reading the posts. Using the caller ID, I called the phone number back and a pleasant sounding woman answered, saying several names (that I didn't understand except for the Purple Heart organization). I asked her how it works; she explained that they collect donated household items that get re-sold in thrift stores and that about $12,000. a month goes to helping Members of the Purple Heart & their families. Then I asked her what PERCENTAGE of the profit actually goes to the Purple Heart organization. Without hesitation, she answered: 20 percent. This confirms what another poster wrote about 10 percent. For the first time in many years, I donated many bags to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. I told her that and asked her if they got my phone number from that organization. She replied, "it's possible". So there you have it ~ they may be "legitimate", but definitely NOT GENEROUS! Now I'll have to check with BB/BS when they send another postcard in a few weeks & see what they do with the donations & then ask the same Q's I asked this one. Then I will call the Good Will store & ask them. I hope you will do the same, but I am wondering if you also had donated to another group & that's how they got your number. .

Caller keeep calling not an organ donation didn't they hung upafter couple rings. Sick of these no goods. DNC is useless!!!

well, charity, sort of... company based in midwest that runs thrift stores for profit by using legit nonprofits' names and/or phones for solicitation and gives them a very tiny slice of the pie. Easy way to get rid of crap but if you truly care about nonprofits then you should donate by calling or going to Salvation Army, Goodwill, St Vincent De Paul or such. I bought light bulbs and trash bags for DAV for years and found out that 9 of my 10 bucks went to the scummy scammer, and DAV was happy with the 'free' buck they got -- I started writing a check to DAV for ten bucks every year instead. It's just a charity looking for your household donations. Go grab some stuff for them to pick up. Clean out your closet ...

They call on a regular basis. Very annoying! Guess they love my answering machine.

Caller ID read Virginia Donor. Didn't recognize the number, didn't answer. Caller gave up after four rings.

Must be a telemarketer, since there's no way a Virginia company solicits to pick up donations from someone with a NJ phone exchange.

Any ideas who this might be?

This is NOT from Donate Life Virginia--nor does it have anything to do with organ, eye or tissue donation. Please read all the emails here and elsewhere about this robot caller number. this call is from a company that sends cards to your home asking for donations for thrift stores , then they call on phone to ask if they can come and pick up what you have gotten out for them.
| Happy Puppy 2014-02-26 18:17:15 Unknown |
The caller ID shows Virginia Donor. It may be https://www.donatelifevirginia.org/about-us. Could be b/c you signed up for organ donor on your drivers license and they somehow are fed the info from the DMV, not sure though.
