Debt Collector
I do not know these people called him told him who I was and hopefully will not hear from them again but I just put them on my smart phone block list I don't understand why they don't leave messages especially when you have that automated machine calling people checking and fishing to see if If you haven't heard about that scam you really should because they have local American numbers that go outside the country on a call can  run you $12 it happened to me in January 2014 and it was not fun run you $12 it happened to me .....

This is yet another bottom feeding company that buys statute expired debt and using borderline illegal tactics tries to collect 10 to 20 cents on the dollar. Of course once they collect anything, the Statute date resets to day 1 and they come after the rest using the courts. So either block their number or ignore them.

They call me at least twice a week but every time they call they ask for a different person who I don't know I've asked them 2 remove my number from the list and they won't do so unless I give them my name I'm not giving them my name so they can start calling for me it's really getting old

Portfolio Recovery Asso keeps getting new #'s to call from because they know we either block their calls, or, my favorite, just set the ringer to mute for that number. I like to call them back in my spare time and just harass them. I'll try to make it look they they called me. Confuses and pisses them off all at the same time.

AMEN Sharty!  Tjey are the scum of the earth.  I just don't answer any calls I don't recognize the number because even when you prove it was paid or you don't owe it they continue to harass you.  The Federal Government talks a good game, but in fact they don't have the personnel to enforce all the rules.  What they should do is just shut the SOBs down.  That isn't going to happen because they collect hundreds of millions of dollars every year from people who do owe and that generates tax revenue.

Send them a cease and desist letter via return receipt or certified mail.  That way they can't say they didn't get it, and start logging these calls and keeping track of them in a notebook. The violations here may benefit you - if you had a attorney that handled the bankruptcy, you can contact him also. You should not tolerate the repeated harassment.  If not, seek a FDCPA/TCPA attorney.

Thanks, everyone for the info - I have at least 10 different numbers for these sleazebuckets.  Debt they claim I owe was taken care of in bankruptcy over 10 years ago but they still want to suck it out of me.  I also NEVER answer an unknown number and they never leave a message so I'm not doing a callback.  I also get mail from them periodically on said debt.  Geeeez.  Obviously they make enough money from other poor souls to make it worth their while to use these tactics.

If they are calling you on your cell phone, download a call blocker app.  There are plenty of free ones out there.  Just set it up to hang up on all the bill collector numbers!  You will get some peace of mind and they will get a hang up tone!

I got a call today.  They left no voicemail.  I recognize the company name from the comments in this post.  This company have tried to reach me from 3 other phone numbers as well.

I began to receive calls from them after I filed an LLC via Legalzoom.  They must have obtained my number from the public domain.

Portfolio Recovery bottom-feeder scumbags calls me @least once a week for a long time. They try to collect on fraudulent / or old debt they buy up for pennies on the $, alot of times well past the statute of limitations of the debt per state, Such BS. Don't interact or give any info to these low-lifes,  they will rob you blind if they get the chance. They also lie & try to intimidate you about it, F them! I report them to the FTC / other places, do not call list. Tell them to stop calling /harrassing you or you will take action against them is the only route w/ such vermin. Annoyingly rude. legitimate businesses almost always stops calling or attempts to after so long or so many times, not continue to call over & over for years harrassing like blood thirsty Sharks. Think about it. The tele-marketing A-holes they use to do the calling also makes a commission if the collect $ from poor victims,  just like a hungry salesman. Stay Away you've been warned if your reading this!

Portfolio Recovery has been calling for 7 years trying to collect on a debt I did not make. I went to court for identity theft on my credit card and had it dismissed. They are still trying to make me pay even when I show them the court papers.
