I actually did fill out a contest form at the venue that they said I went to, which made me think it was legit at first. Apparently I won my choice of a $250 gift card, a 40" flat screen TV, an Apple watch, or Beats headphones plus a free trip to their resort - although I don't think they ever told me who they were or where the resort was. But first, they wanted $75 to secure my appointment at the resort, which I would "get back once I sat through a presentation" (or meeting, or something).

A word of advice - never pay money to receive money. By law, legitimate sweepstakes are not even allowed to do that. All prizes have to come with no strings attached. That's why you always see "No purchase necessary" in the fine print of all the legit contests.

To simply put it, they try to sell you timeshare. I got the call set up the appointment and left the deposit to go tho I felt it was pretty sketch at first but just went for it. Got the money back like they promised and also the free vacations. You go through a few hrs of them talking your brains out and then them trying to sell you a timeshare. You can either buy or not...either way in the end you'll get your prize. Hope this helps.

Just completed the massanutten resort timeshare tour. I received the gifts I was promised , $150 gift card and a 4 day 3 night stay in Orlando Florida voucher , not sure how legit the voucher is or what's involved with booking a vacation with these things.   Any one tried to use the vouchers yet?

A woman called me from this number saying that my wife (in not married) filled out a contest form at a Dennys and that she won! Then she asks me to put my wife on the line with us so that we can all go over what we've won. When I said she wasn't home the woman told me "im sure she has a cell phone, call her on 3 way so we can talk with her". when I said that my "wife" doesn't own a slcell phone , the woman said that she would try back later. As if that would change the fact that I'm not married...

This number called saying that I won something from a form I filled out at Applebee's. They have called 4 times since 6:00pm-I thought I would return the call. I did and there was a general voicemail about Massanutten which I have not filled anything out from them. I believe to be a scam as it seems to follow the trend of several other posts. I have blocked them so hopefully will not hear from them again.

Repeated calls from somebody who thinks I'm stupid enough to give my credit card number to an obvious scammer (anybody who CALLS YOU out of the blue and asks for a credit card number is an obvious scammer). Some calls were as late as 10:30 PM!

Folks, this is about a free trip to Massanutten Resort. It is LEGITIMATE. You go and take a timeshare tour, and you get free stuff. They ONLY call you if you fill out an entry form. Please do your research people. We have visited the resort 3 of the last 4 years, and we love it! They have a water park, pools, golf, etc.

Standard scam -- hook with the "you won a gift card" followed by attempt to get your credit card number for a "$75 temporary deposit" (yeah right -- more like "whatever your remaining credit is" PERMANENT "deposit".

Received multiple calls from a person last night that I missed but had the voicemails about an entry I did at Pizza Hut and won a gift card that MUST be retrieved that night.  I didn't enter to win anything nor do I even eat there, she was definitely scamming, so I didn't bother calling back.

She said her name was Jalissa.

Well, I do want to say that this isnt a scam, even though it may sound like it. I spent over an hour on the phone with a representative before I gave up my credit card information. The only gimmick is that you have to visit the location for them to attempt to sell you a timeshare, but even if you dont buy it then they still give you the free stay.  I signed up in the mall a loooooong time ago and they called several months later.  If you have never been, I would assure you to go. Beautiful place and def a great free advantage that I am glad I took advantage of!

I have done multiple tours at Massnutten and am willing to do it again.  I get gas money and a 2 night getaway.  My children can swim to their hearts delight.  I can sit back and read a book.  I have always survived the tour in one piece and with a full stomach.  My kids recently asked to go to massanutten to go tubing (we have never been there in the winter).  I said we couldn't afford it right now.  2 days later I get a call to do a tour with the 2 night stay.  Looks like we are going to Massanutten.

So just to be clear, I read all of the post here. Here is what I found.

1) The majority hung up after being asked either:
A) Can you get a partner on three way conference call.
B) You have to put down a 75 dollar refundable deposit.
C) You have to agree to a 90min to 2hr tour.

2)The minority answered the called received the money(Major point) and went on vacation and didn't enjoy it due to small issues (no elevators, lack of fun activities) and above all else trying to sell time shares all of the time.

3) But no one typed:
A) I went to their location and it didn't exist.
B) I called the number of their website and they said it was a fake.
C) I was required to pay any number outside of the '75' dollars which everyone else mentioned.
D) I saw multiple charged occur on my account when asked for the 75 bucks.
E) No one said they went and took the tour but they where not allowed to get the money unless they bough a timeshare. . .

Its hard to say its a 'internet scam' when its really a 'timeshare invite'.

I guess I'll need to report back and see if they really give me the money they offered since its triple + the 75.

I signed up for a raffle at a local wine festival. When I was first called and told I won a free trip to Masanutten, a $50 gift card, and two four night stays at a sister property,  I thought it was the best day ever - until the agent kept talking. She wanted to know who I would take with me, when I said my boyfriend she started asking his name and said that she couldn't proceed without having a conference call with him. I was weirded out and ended the call. Then I called Masanutten and they said this is normal, that they partner with companies and you have to pay a deposit, but you get it back, plus the $50 gift card, after you tour their property!! That sounds like a bunch of b***s***. They've already called me 4 times and left 3 voicemails in the last hour. I will NOT be calling them back

Thank you all, they are still at it.  I have had the same experiences as discussed in this string.  I do not think I would have fallen for it but finding this certainly confirms my suspicions.

They called 10 times within a two hour period last night. Some of the time we were entertaining guests and did not answer. They were indignant that they had had to leave a voicemail and demanded that I get my husband on the phone. I told them this was not a good time to talk and hung up. They immediately called back several times. I finally took the phone off the hook. This morning I've blocked the number and filed a complaint with BBB.

Wow this has been going on for years huh?  I got 2 calls/voicemails tonight from 757-821-0166 (VA). The young- sounding girl said "Hi [my name], it's Marissa!  I was calling to let you know that you actually won the gift card from the drawing at McDonalds!  I'm sorry I missed you, but I will call back at 9:10 and I can tell you how to claim the gift card and your prizes."  Her 2nd message basically said the same thing and that she would call back 2hrs and 15 minutes later.

I was of course suspicious, which is how I found this page by searching for more info.  Thanks to everyone else that has documented these calls.  It sounds like she was calling from a large call center, with lots of other voices in the background (probably other calls going out).

Right! Your over enthusiastic post has totally changed my mind. It's awesome that you were so happy with your purchase that you made another purchase for next year, all before making your first visit even! By the way I work at Papa Johns and we don't share customer information or have customers fill out direct marketing offers. Tell Jeremy and Anthony to try again when you get home and see them.

So I go to a World Of Pets Expo at the end of Jan. 2013 and I did fill out a contest entry form to win dog supplies and products. No where on the entry form or the booth representatives state to me that there would be a time share company calling me, that was nothing that stated that my information would be shared to any other companies either. The phone number I listed in case I won some supplies for my dog I just happen to write down my cell phone number. The lady on the phone tells me I won a 3 night, 2 day stay at a wonderful resort in Virginia. Right then and there I knew that it was totally wrong even though she read every single thing I wrote down on that entry form. Are these contest entry forms being sold off to time share companies and other companies we want nothing to do with? I never expected something like this to happen from trying to win some new toys, or shampoo, or product for my little dog. It is upsetting.

3 calls tonight from this number. I think these companies pay for space in Fairs and Trade Shows and offer gift cards as a front for this operation.  I was at such an event.  I will NOT be entering anymore of these "contests."

Massanutten Resort...went there through a time share we have...that place is terrible...ONE restaurant and actually nothing out of the ordinary to do there...If one ski's then winter time might be ok.
We did not like any part of it. The person at our time share told us it was a class act resort.
It looks like a bunch of garden apartment building.  I would not recommend it for a vacation getaway.
No elevators, you have to carry everything up to the second or third floor, so if you have any type of a health problem that requires climbing stairs big problem. But if you're looking for a bunch of apartments
out in the middle of NO where go for it.  They do have horse riding and a golf course...that was okay.
But all in all I'm giving it a big let down as far as a RESORT.

This isn't a scam. It's pretty straight forward. You give them $75 so you have more of an incentive to get it back. You get your gift card and vacation after you listen to somebody try and sell you timeshares. If you have the knowledge to look up numbers that call you, then I would assume you'd have the knowledge to look up a company.
