Just received my first phone call. They hung up when answering machine picked up. I decided to research the number since the caller id said POLICE PROTECT. I thought that was odd and upon researching the number realized they are a telemarketer asking for donations for a phony charity.

How do I get off their list?? I have answered their calls 3 times and asked them not to call any more as we are not donating. I checked my caller id and we get almost 2 calls per night regularly!

Thanks for the info. I got a call today, my ans mach took it, and they hung up. Now that I know it's a 90% useless organization, I will just block the number. Shame, shame on these organizations that supposedly collect money for good causes, and then spend all or most of it on themselves! I wish the government had the ability to shut them all down! Oh, yes, and thank God for the internet, where I can investigate these things. I'm just a softie at heart, a salesman's dream; and for sure I would have made a donation if not for this info.

They called us this eve. and it is true the calling company makes most of the profit the police get less than 10%. What a shame. Never donate money over the phone.

According to the internet, Police Protective Fund is a legitimate charitable organization - exempting it from the restrictions of the state and federal "Do Not Call" lists - though it dances on the very edge of the definitions of "legitimate" and "charitable". Again based on internet reports, more than 90% of the donations taken in by this organization are skimmed - er, consumed - by overhead, administrative, and fundraising costs. Most local police forces have never even heard of the group, let alone received any of the donations sent to the Police Protective Fund on their behalf.
