I received a call from this number (757-878-9020) on my cell phone (an Augusta #) at 4:30 this morning. I answered the phone and no one responded. Then at 8:13 I received another call from this number. This time an automated message that asked me to "dial in a pin to play an important message" played. My initial impressions were that this had to be a prank, so I hung up. Within a minute I received a call on my office phone (also a Virginia number) this call was the same as the first, no response. I tried calling the number back from both lines and each time received the same error message stating that the line was not in service.
I contacted the Ft Eustis DSN maintenance operator and she was certain that the caller dialed from a number on post but could not confirm where the call had originated from within the installation. I can't imagine anyone would want to be up at 4:30 just to prank call someone. This is a strange series of events alright.

878-9020 is the "switch board number" for Fort Eustis, VA. Any call that originates from an on-post Army phone beginning in 878, regardless of the last four numbers, will display on caller ID systems as 878-9020. It does not except call-backs and I believe it's sort of like an ID blocked function. Ask yourself, who do know or do business with on Fort Eusits?

just so you know that this is a married female on post calling from her office number. She is calling all the numbers in her husbands cell phone (and going back like a year or so on his cell phone bills) because apparently he is a cheater. She called me and i figured it out after i hung up with her because i did not know of whom she was speaking with. Her husband was in my area (WA state) for work and was visiting a family member of his which is a a relative of my ex-husbands. i met him at a family 4th of july BBQ so of course i didnt put the names together. he called us for information on where to go eat etc before he left like a week later and we talked to him for like 30 mins... go figure... anyway she was accusing me of cheating with him and all that craziness that goes with a cheating husband and a scorned wife... good luck with that

I do work with Ft. Eustis and actually was expecting a call this morning and missed it but this number showed up and the engineer's phone number is different so it does look like it probably is a general Called ID attached to outgoing calls from the Army base.

This is a Fort Eustis number. Anyone calling from Fort Eustis will show this number on your caller ID. The direct office numbers do not appear on caller ID, just this number.

I have a friend stationed overseas, and when he calls me from over there, this is the number that shows up on caller ID.

This number keeps calling me. Called it back and out of service. Stop calling me!

I too have received a few calls from this number. We had our taxes done at Ft. Eustis and the person calling us back used this number. My best guess is that some of the outgoing calls filter thru this number. I would encourage you to think back and find out if you have any "unfinished" (for lack of better words) business there and maybe try to contact the base. In my case, it was not a prank call of any of the sort. The caller ID shows DOIM ATTN ATZF: go figure, sounds like German!. :-)

Same thing . . . this number called me. I answered even though I did not recognize the number. The voice was barely coming through saying, "can you hear me?" I kept saying "yes" and they hung up or the call disconnected.
I tried to call the number back because who knows . . . with all the tornadoes, etc. . . . one of my kids might be someplace trying to reach me. I have no one in Iraq or Afghanistan. I know no one serving in the army right now. I know no one in VA.
How do they get our numbers?
Shannon 2011-02-01 17:25:39 Unknown
It's the MacDonald Army Health Center appointment line reminding of an appointment.
Tish 2010-10-13 17:13:57 Unknown
Ok so fine, It's a Ft Eustice phone number.
The point is that they have no business calling and hanging up on so many people.
There is no reason for anyone to call me from that base or from that switchboard.
So the question still remains:
Who and Why?

keeps calling every 5 mins. No one there when the phone is answered.

When my BF doesn't have cell signal and has to call me from work, this is the number that shows up on my caller ID. It's for Ft. Eustis in Virginia. If you get a call from it, someone in the military is trying to reach you (or they've dialed a wrong number).
Ryan 2009-05-29 02:06:15 Unknown
This number is a number used by military overseas. Today is my birthday and my cousin who is stationed in the middle east called me with this number. you cant call it back because it could be track quite easliy...
cindy 2009-05-14 00:56:12 Unknown
got a call from this number and he was asking to speak with someone else I worked with but called me on my cell. seemed strange that when you call the number back it says it is a non working number, must be a number for folks to just call out on
tara 2009-05-04 11:42:51 Unknown
This is the number that will show up if you are called from any number or office on Ft. Eustis. Hospital, CDC, units ect. All the phones on base will show up as this number
Kel 2009-03-13 12:53:32 Unknown
Got a phone call from this number at 8:30am. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize just in case sales or collections. I called the number back after googling and it says the number is not a working number. ????? People are saying it is a Fort eustis number but who would be calling, not leaving a message from Ft Eustis? This stuff annoys me because I am supposedly on the Do Not Call List.

got call today at 4:00, a male that sounded vaguely familiar called. I simply said hello, and he said "i am sorry, I must have the wrong number". I said, "are you sure?" He paused, then said "Sorry, think I got the wrong number" then hung up. I called back and it says number is no longer in service.

I got another call this AM and it was legitimate, a US Army business group I have been trying to reach over the internet.

Working in a job that was directly connected to transfering calls, I also learned that sometimes troops from overseas or in combat call friends and loved ones through what we call a morale call. When a soldier calls from overseas and asks for a morale call, the call is forwarded to the requested number and the operator hangs up. Also take in mind that connections in foriegn countries do get dropped or have a slower response time, so please be patient. No matter what the reason is, the above message is true its a universal number that shows up on caller Id no matter where you call from on Ft Eustis, VA an Army Training Post.
