I understand that the reporting of a fair debt is the true essence of collection, and I want to thank you for upgrading the policy guidelines that encompass many people in the USA.

Each state has its own time limit on collecting debts. These people that are calling are generally "junk debt" buyers. This means that they have bought your debt for pennies but try to collect from you for the original debt amount plus accrued interest. Even if your agreement with the original lender says that you will be responsible for any unpaid amounts, forget it.
Look to your state's SOL (statute of limitations) if it exceeds the time of your last payment, just forget about the debt. BUT do not get scared and pay a little down on the debt because the debt starts running anew from the last payment you made. This note is not to have you run away from your debts but be sensible about owing money and how you handle your debts.
Do not let these persistent collectors call you at yourwork. on Sundays or weird hours. These are violations of the fair debt collection law. If they persist, sue them. Consult an attorney.

It is irritating to receive this phone call.
Metangere 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown
No message. This Temperancevi VA called several times with message.
Alex Copeland 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown
Always answer these types of calls - they have to pay for completed call. Keep them talking as long as possible with fake info so they have to pay more.
Mel 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown
Who is this and why do they keep waking me up?
Ty 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown
You've saved me a lot of stress. I never knew that.
FAXIT 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown
When they call, pick up the phone so the call completes. Then immediately hang up. It stops the ring, and makes them pay.
Annyonimous 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown

HAINGUYEN 2011-06-06 20:56:27 Unknown

My caller ID said, "Temperancevi VA"
It is a debt collector calling the wrong number. They call every day with a recorded message.

If the ID says AACC - that is Asset Acceptance and they try to collect old, expired debt. They purchase "zombie" debt that they can try to collect forever and ever but LEGALLY you don't have to pay - the statute of limitations has run out..know your rights people!!

This number called me today for a debt that goes back to 1990~! Which was settled in a bankruptcy over ten years ago. I called the company and put the fear of law into them, we'll see if they continue to call, then it's off to my lawyer and a lawsuit against these do***e bags~!

Calls come like clockwork from these @#!%! Bought a Bell Call Blocker unit to thwart these nincompoops. They don't get anything but a robot voice. Doesn't cost apenney to use on your phoneline and you can block most unwanted calls.

John, you may need to check your phone line. Identities thieves are tapping into phone lines. If you hear any sort of static at all someone is using your line. This has happened to me for over 5 yrs. now. I called AT&T and they checked my line while i was on the line with them, they could see that someone else was using my line at the same time that i was on it (i have 1 landline phone). They kept coming out and un-tapping my line but the creeps just tapped back in. So i changed providers and still having the same problem. They get keys to the outside boxes, wear a standard uniform, drive a utility truck with a fake paper thin magnetic sign stuck to the side and no one is the wiser. I get daily collection calls for several different names, apparently these creeps are using my number to get credit under several stolen identities.

They call and hang up without leaving a message. I believe its Asset Acceptance Corp

You must be so proud of yourself to be such an accomplished thief!
JohnAB1 2010-03-17 22:04:51 Unknown
Oops, typo... I meant whoever had our PHONE NUMBER before was the deadbeat. It was not likely someone who lived here before. Although, I did Google my home phone number the other day and the person they keep asking for was listed for our number. Google must not update their directory often enough, since we've been in this house for 10 years. AACC is trying to collect from an old debt at least 10 years old! This is not even legal in my state.
JohnAB1 2010-03-17 21:59:47 Unknown
Tammy, they are calling your FAX number because they think you are someone else. I've been getting calls for about 5 years asking for people I don't know. Probably, whoever lived here before was the deadbeat. However, since we get about 3 calls like this a week, I just let the answering machine pick it up. Most of the time they don't leave any message, anyway. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that don't pay their bills, so this kind of business, ignoring the law completely, thrives. The statute of limitations on credit card debt in my state is 3 years anyway. Oh, well... just the cost of having a phone these days.
Tammy 2010-03-10 18:25:18 Unknown
They have called my FAX line a few times in the last week. It's a brand new number so I don't know why they'd be calling it. They can keep calling it, the only thing that will answer is my fax.
