Beware, I hate to say it but I was duped by "Brandon Brown". They are using a new phone number (916)234-9454. They got me so frazzled. I now have the ammunition I need to fight back. I have contacted my local sheriff's department and the California Attorney General's office.

Debt Collector
I got a call from 724-972-0962 from Micheal {something} I couldn't understand.  He's telling me I owe money and they will only hold my file for 1/2 hour then they are sending me to court.  Claim he was with the United Nations Leagal dept.  I asked him to confirm some information, he put me on hold, when I asked his name again he said it was David Jone.  I put a FTC complaint in.  He got rude, called me a bi*** and called back 15 min after I hung up on him.  During the call back I informed him I reported him and he said "well good luck, we're suing your a** and your will pay dearly"

I got a message from a man with a thick accent, Mike Williams <---- seriously.. anywho, he also claimed to be calling from the UN  Legal dept, wihich was supposedly in the Law Office of William Skard (sp?). After naming a long list of things I could be charged with, he named an account I never had.

These people are so annoying, he's already left me a ton of messages. And when I tried to call back, nobody answers.. Hmmm...

He called from 724-972-0962

Your broken English is an excellent clue that you are one of them, and now that you have provided an e-mail you will be open to much of the same harrassment and disgusting threats.  The Police probably came to your place because you are breaking Federal Laws! You should go to prison for a long, long time and be amongst your slimey kind.  Stay out of this Country! and go to Hell!

DENVER -- Has a debt collector called and threatened you?

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers said Tuesday to hang up and file a complaint.

Suthers office issued a warning that fraudulent and threatening debt-collectors are calling people in Colorado. The calls often involve a supposed payday loan debt consumers have incurred, according to a news release.

Officials said the callers are using a variety of business names and have even invoked the Office of the Attorney General or the name of the attorney general to swindle consumers. According to the complaints, the fraudulent debt collectors threaten consumers with legal action unless they make immediate payment of their debts.

"Colorado law affords consumers protections against fraudulent or abusive debt collectors," Suthers said. "Consumers should not hesitate to report any instances of debt-related fraud or threats to my office as well as local authorities."

Consumers have told the Attorney General's Office that the callers have a variety of foreign accents and have basic personal information about the consumers including their name, address and the last four digits of their Social Security number.

Officials said the callers have used a variety of generic and government-sounding company names, including:

#
# Affidavit Consolidation Services
# American Law Division
# Crime Protection & Investigation
# Cyber Crime Division
# Department of Law & Investigations
# Federal Fraud Investigations
# Federal Investigations Company
# Federal Crime Investigations
# Criminal Bureau of Identity
# Investigation Services
# National Affidavit Processing Center/Department
# National Bureau of Crime Investigations
# National Check Restitution
# National Criminal Center
# United Client Suspect Department
# United Financial Crime Department
# United Nation Legal Department
# U.S. Crime Suspect Department
U.S. Justice Department/Payday Loan Division

According to the Office of the Attorney General?s Consumer Protection Section, here's what you can do:

#
# If a collection agency or debt collector threatens you in any way, hang up and file a complaint with Attorney General's office.
# If a collection agency or debt collector declines to provide you with a record of the debt, hang up and file a complaint.
# If you dispute a debt a collection agency attributed to you in a timely fashion, the collection agency must provide some proof that you actually owe the debt before contacting you again.
# If you would like to have a collection agency stop calling you at work or home, you must send a letter to the collection agency. A phone call is not sufficient. Once a collection agency receives your letter, they are barred from contacting you.
# If you inform a debt collector that you are not the subject of the debt, they must stop calling you.
# You do not have a right to make partial payments unless the collection agency agrees to such an arrangement.
# When dealing with debt collectors, keep copies of all of your correspondence, including any payments.
After you have asked a debt collection agency to stop contacting you, for whatever reason, they may only contact you via a lawsuit.

If you believe they have been defrauded or harassed by a debt collection agency, real or fake, file a complaint online on the attorney general's website or over the phone at 303-866-5304.

You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission online on the F.T.C.'s website or over the phone at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).
This is Most definitely a scam give them no information and let them know that you know its a scam and the police will be answering the phone the next time they call!

It is disturbing because they did have my personal info; ss#, address, etc.
I told them not to call again or they would be the ones with legal

I just got a call from Senior Attorney Joe Brown with the United Nations Legal Department.  They said that they will contact my employer, send the local authorities to escort me to the CA court house on 6/22/10 (I live in Missouri).  They offered 3 options, the last was to pay $589 of a payday loan that I never paid back.  That is not true.  Who can I report this to, legally?  I called him back and told him I was calling the Attorney Generals office, but he didn't seem to panic.  They have also called my friend.  Is this for real?

I just got a call from Attorney Brandon Brown and he gave this number 760-514-0175 to call him back tomorrow or they are taking me to court in California and I will be "dragged into court". I told him that was threatening and he should stop that. This is America and we don't drag anyone into court. He was very fast talking and foreign. I did take out a loan and can't afford to pay it back. He said they will block my social security number and all kinds of things. He called me today June 28 and said I had to be in court in California tomorrow. I told him I don't have the money to repay them, how would I get to California?
My husband was a police officer and knows the laws, he said they just broke the fair collections act and he will deal with them, not me.
I wish you all luck, and myself. I don't know why people have to do things like this and are so horrible. I just pray they don't contact any elderly people and scare them like he scared me, they don't have a wonderful man like my husband to protect them and take care of bad people like I do.
I will wish you all luck and pray that these people will get caught and get sent back to where ever they came from, it is not from the United States, we don't treat people like that here!!!!

They must have hacked into a system at a payday loan or several companies and recieved a bunch of information and got phone numbers. Dont give them any money, this is a scam and my husband will call the attorney General in the morning. He said this is Federal Rackettering, and wherever they are they will be the ones dragged into court in the United States. Do not give them any information or money. if they tell you they are being recorded, tell them you are recording them. If they call you on a cell phone, record it.Inform them they are being recorded and you are turning everything you have to the Attorney General for your state. Plain and simple, this is white collar terrorism.

My co worker just recieved a call from this same number saying that an ex co worker had put her as a reference on an application and that the ex-coworker was now being charged with fraud and that my coworker could be facing the same charges. It really freaked us out but then we looked it up on here and saw that it really must be a scam because the guy couldn't hardly speak english and couldn't say any details whatsoever about anything. My co worker started going off on them and said that they could not hold her accountable for anything if she was used as a reference and then they just told her she was being recorded and this would clear her up and then hung up. We called our ex coworker and she said she hadn't recieved any calls from these people and they had said they had left her many msgs. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM that just wants personal info..DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM

The first call came yesterday 7/22/10 at approximately 11:15 am. The person claimed to be with the United Nations Legal Department and said I was
being charged with bank fraud as well as other charges. He refused to answer any questions and claimed he had to inform me of the charges first but
only AFTER I insisted he tell me the charges. He made it sound as if there were a long list of charges. I ended the call as I was getting another
call at that time. Whoever this man was he had a heavy accent that was most likely an Indian (India) accent.
I received another call on 7/23/10 at 11:13 am. He made the same claim of being with United Nations Legal Department. I asked for his name (Brandon
Brown), phone number (760-582-0305) and employee number. He gave me a number he said was his BAR Association number (266347).
After getting the name, phone number and Bar Association number I told the man that I would have an attorney contact him and then told him do not
call again and hung up. He immediately called back and asked what I said. I told him he had heard everything I said and to never call again and hung
up.
Using the information provided by the caller I went to the California Bar Association's web site and found the real Brandon Hugh Brown, who was admitted to the California State Bar 12/2009 and was able to also find the firm the real Mr. Brown works for, Kirkland & Ellis LLP. The real Brandon Brown, CA Bar Assoc #266347, specializes in Intellectual Property Law. I called the real Mr. Brown to inform him of what was going on. As it turns out he was already aware of other people getting the same kind of calls where his name was being used. However, I was the first person that was given a bar assoc #. I gave the number given to me to the real Mr. Brown and he confirmed that it was his (and he does NOT have a foreign accent). Mr. Brown informed me that by providing him with the information, he now has what he needs to call the police. He informed me that he would be calling the Bishop, CA police and filing a complaint.

Anyone who reads the post from Denise Williams, don not believe what she is claiming...I begun recieving these calls yesterday.  As did a friend of mine...I spoke to a friend of mine at the Attourney General's office and he said they're building a case against 'United Nations Legal Department' on behalf of the numerous complaints they've recieved in the state alone...so it appears as though Denise Williams is simply someone from United Nations Legal Department trying to scare you all into giving them money...DON'T DO IT...if you know you've comitted no crime you owe them nothing...plus, we all agree these people call with thick India accents and if you notice the poor grammer used in Denise Williams post...Don't worry, they're close to getting shut down and we all can go back to answering our phones again...

I've gotten a call twice from this number while at work. Both times he called I was on the other line but he left messages. He was speaking VERY broken and disjointed english and sounded like he was in a call center in India or somewhere in the Middle East. In the first message he stated that I need to call him back "the very second you get this message" because there is a legal case against me. Then he said his name was Jack Williams and that I need to call him back "okay?"
The second message he seemed irate- and this had only been 45 minutes later! He said since I had not called him back it was looking bad for my case and that if I wanted any information on my case I needed to call him back at the "United Nations Legal Department" at the phone number he gave before and give him my social security number. He then said the last 4 digits of my SSN and said that if I ignored the call and didnt call him back right away I will have to suffer the legal consequesces.
Out of sheer curiosity (because I felt like this was a scam) I called the number back to try to get more information about it and it gives me a fast busy signal. I decided to try and look up the company and found many websites where others have had the exact same experience (with the exception of the name) and the exact same number/ business is calling them. I'm not sure who to let know about this but I'm posting my experience on as many sites as I can find in case it helps someone else.
If anyone knows how to legally report these people please post something on here for us! I plan on answering the next time because my company DOES record telephone calls- I hope maybe our IT professionals can help trace the call and hand it over to the police.
