I have had at least 5 calls, and all from different numbers. I always call back and never get anyone.
"Rick Douglas" is most likely a fake name, its most likely a scam. Message states he is with "State Process Servicing", I have left two messages for them to stop calling me. The number they leave to call is 888-386-0143. Last Caller ID was 731-438-4781, but they have all been different numbers, Montana, California, Tennessee, etc..

Who is making these calls?

I received a call from this number as well with the same message from a "Rick Douglas".  He said he was representing someone from 888-501-5893 or 5983, can't remember.  Anyway, I have not written a check in at least 5 years so I know he's full of crap.  I have reported it.

Jennifer I got that some call and number and when I called it conveniently nobody was available and they had system issues and then it hung up.  I have not had a checking account in 8 years. Same BS, they want to meet so they can serve me.  Same guy, Rick Douglas.  I have a strict, if I can't pay with cash or a money order  I don't need it policy so I know this is hogwash.  The bank I had a checking account through is where I still have a savings account.  They are big enough that they would have already taken me to court if need be.

A Rick Douglas left me a message stating that he wanted to meet me somewhere to serve papers to me on a bad check? The person he was representing was a number from 888-501-5983. Is this real or fake?

Same thing here.  They've called me twice.  And today makes it thrice.  They always say the call is for Philip Young.  I don't use my first name, so I know it is not a friendly call. The traffic cop and the IRS guys call me Philip.  Then they tell me that it is about a bad check.  I use a debit card and haven't owned a check book for 10 years.  They tell me that I have now officially been "served process" upon, which is impossible.  The only way that process can be served in this state is in person.  I am a paralegal and a law office administrator and have served papers on hundreds of folks in my day.  I don't know of any state that allows "process" to be "served" by phone!  And I can tell from their area code that they are far away from this state.  I can't believe that they can find anyone naive enough to fall for this scam, nor can I believe that they haven't been indicted by the feds!  They should get the electric chair; although "gas is best, costs less."  Prison is too good for slimeballs like these.

Bottom feeder collection agency attempting to spin the bad check angle of an unpaid payday loan.  Threats of serving papers.  Do not be fooled, they probably do not have original documents anyhow.  Let them try since my state does not allow payday loans anyway.

Ignore them.  Never give info.
