Any reputable company would pay for a background check.  Primerica has you sell you family members because they don't have a good enough product to stand on it's own merits.  
I just got a call from them asking to set up an interview as well.

I returned the call and set up an appt.  The company is Primerica and job is selling term life ins and refinancing mortgages for people.  She put a spin on it like they are "helping" people who need more money. They train you to get insurance & mortgage license. Seemed reputable but I don't want to work nights and weekends in sales.  Your only cost is $99 for a background check.
