They called me too! But once I actually gave the guy the time of day, he was actually a pretty nice guy. I gave him some basic info, the most personal was my birthday, (which by the way, is completely useless in the identity theft world. I work in law enforcement and if someone only needed a birthday to steal your identity they'd work at a bar or gas station, not a telemarketer.) so I took exactly 1 min 4 seconds out of my day and received a free no strings attached quote and it was actually a lot lower than my current rates! I didn't switch though, I ended up showing it to my long term insurance agent and he actually matched the price! I saved $982 a year from that 1 min phone call. And guess what?! DIDNT HEAR FROM THEM EVER AGAIN!

I am a caller for tri.... but I don't lie. Some people do, but I was raised better. I understand my job is an annoyance, but I'm a college kid that needs the money. I'm sorry some of my co-workers are rude. However your date of birth is not personal. Its considered public info ( on your id) we would never ask for private info.

I got a call on my home phone from 753-351-9887 at around 6:45 PM EST. Right away he said he was calling on behalf of Allstate trying to give quotes for car insurance. I answered basic questions regarding past accidents, car make/model, whether I drive it to work, etc. I told him my first name, but no other personal information beyond that. He didn't ask for a home address or anything. He did ask how much I paid for my current insurance to which I did not respond. At the end he said he'd call back after a few days to give some quotes. I thought something was fishy cause of the different area code that appeared on my caller ID (I'm in 301). Plus, I already have several local Allstate agents. Why would I trust someone from another state who cold calls at night?

Idiot insurance shysters

They just called for the 2nd time today. But the 2nd call showed both 763-519-8887 + a spoofed area code number
415-692-7057 trying to fool us.

Didn't work. That number is now blocked too.

IDIOTS!

IDENTITY THEFT SCAM!  The young man calling from this number, presented himself as an Allstate Insurance agent.  He requested personal information concerning the make and model of my car(s), and whether or not I had any traffic tickets or accidents in the last three years.  When he asked for my date of birth, I said that I would not give him that information.  He abruptly disconnected the call.  This rude behavior is indicative of someone who may be actively engaged in a criminal enterprise.

Don't bet on it.  I've been on the Do Not Call list for years and have reupped a few times (last time was Nov 2012) and I'm still getting unwanted phone calls.  These scammers don't care about the DNC.

Here is the page that details all of the places that InfoUSA can collect your data from.  I called their customer service #, talked to a manager and he agreed to remove my information from their databases (Yes.. plural).  Not only did the number of spam phone calls drop off significantly, but the amount of actual junk mail in my mailbox dropped off.  Don't let them jerk you around and tell you that you consented to have your data used.. be persistent and don't let them off the phone until they agree to remove you from the databases.  Then, just to be sure, send a certified letter with receipt service, to their address asking to be removed.  It's a bit of a pain in the a**.. but it works.

I blocked 763-519-8887 previously last year and unintentionally removed from my reject list; the result is I got a call today from them.  The problem is you Americans allow your government to run your lives and tell you what to do just like Russia.  It should be reverse; you should run the government and tell them how to live.  The government do not call listing is the biggest sucker pleasing [pleasing the gullible masses] game anyone could create.  The do not call list doesn't work and the punishment and penalty for telemarketers is trivial.  Privacy in America is a lost freedom, and now with a runaway government anarchy has reached the corporate level unabated. There should be a plethora of law suits against these companies that use your paid air time in which they not pay you for or reimburse you.  Unfortunately your government [congresspeople] is helping telemarketers instead of helping you the private citizen.  As America becomes a legitimate socialist nation, individual freedoms vanish before your eyes.  The government do not call listing is just another extension of the telemarketing industry. Guess who provides telemarketers your phone number other than TMobile, Verizon, ATT and Sprint?; the U.S. Gov't Do Not Call Listing.

I got a suspicious call from someone posing as someone from a local web company looking to interview me on a recent training I received - I played along and he was concerned when I asked the name of his company and thought I was looking it up-not sure who he was telemarketing for the training co. or their competitors.

I got a call from this number claiming to be AllState Insurance.  They just wanted to send me a quote.

In PA it is against the law for insurance companies to attempt to solicit potential customers. I stated this and he said, "And when did you get your law degree?"

I said "take me off your list" and hung up.

Interesting that so many of these posts say this is about insurance. I wasn't home when the call came, and there was a recorded message on my answering machine encouraging me to call because they had permission from my credit card company to call and offer me a lower interest rate. Caller ID said Plymouth  MN.

This number hangs up immediately after "hello."   I do still get lots of telemarketing as well as collection calls looking for people who had my number 3 to 5 years ago.  None of these outfits ever removes the number from the list, even when they promise to do so; they just sell the list on to their next victim and continue to call and hang up.
