It's a bunch of BS. They called and told me they were on a service call with me earlier in the day and got disconnected, and that they need to verify my info. I haven't made a call from my phone in about a week. So. Yeah.

Not a real number.  Been living at same address for EVER.  I have never missed getting a bill.  In fact, just got my bill 3 days ago.  I also received a text immediately after NOT answering the call from GA.  It said I had to log on to a web address that was NOT a verizon address and update my BILLING info...yea, right.  Not gonna happen.  BEWARE...

I have a Verizon (thanks to an old merger) pre-paid
that never gets a bill, so it would have to be junk mail.
They do not legitimately need my mailing address so
I am not going to give it to them.

This is Verizon calling to get updated address.  If Verizon gets a bill returned from your address they will send this automated cal plus a text message to get a correct address. No need to give them info, log into your Verizon account to update address.

No it is not a scam, so please stop lying.  Verizon hired a company called "Alorica" to do the same thing as a VZW call center, except it's done at a lower pay ($8.50 to $9.00 an hr, compared to vzw $14 and up).  Alorica gets returned mail, b/c apparently,  VZW customers lack common sense, and fails to inform their Post Office or VZW that they have moved. Another reason why mail is being returned is that when a VZW acct is open, the VZW rep will input the info that's on the driver license.  Some customer no longer live at the address that's on their DL, but VZW apparently doesn't care....they input it anyway. So now the customer has to wait 30 days before the address can be updated. So then you receive calls from agents req for an updated address.  This is done by a dept called "Back office".....outbound calls only. Hence the reason why  you can't call them in return.  They're not cust care, they can't assist with your bills,  add/remove anyone on the acct. It's strictly updating addresses.

Received a call today from 770 250-2080 ... I answered but there was nobody on the other end ... about 60 seconds later I received a VZW MSG (a text from Verizon) stating that VZW has received returned mail for my address, and that I should log in to Verizon.com at my earliest convenience to update my billing address Dont know why there would be a problem with my mailing address I havent changed it for 5 years ... but there you have it ... hope that helps.

I got called by this number too... didnt answer... called back... goes dead after one or two rings...then get txt msg from verizon saying they have returned mail... no kidding... I moved from one state to another almost three months ago... I do all my billing online.. statements are online... why are they sending me crap in the mail to my old address? I just got a new phone and they managed to send that to my correct address... added a line for the kid.. they sent a " start kit" to the correct address... yet they persist with the old address and getting returned mail from it.... VZW must hire third graders to work for them now.

Right after I got the call (didn't answer of course) I got a bogus text purporting to be from Verizon. "Returned mail for you [sic] address"? What does that even mean? Guess what, my e-mail has nothing to do with my cellphone, and I don't often send or receive texts. I've never had a problem receiving calls from people to whom I gave my cell number Oh, and if they're talking about my mailing address...I got my most recent bill just fine.

Fortunately I have the instructions from Verizon how to forward spam texts to them for action.

Event Reminder
Help stop this, by contacting executives at Verizon, letting them know this is a bad practice on their part. (it looks like Nancy B. Clark might be the most pertinent one).  Page with executives and contact forms (it does not give email addresses): http://about.verizon.com/leadership/corporate-executives/

Verizon really needs to change this system, because it DOES smell fishy, especially with them directing folks to go to a website and enter their address.  That kind of message tends to make me suspect that this is a trick to get me to a site, where they'll then try to get further, more sensitive or lucrative information; I'm pretty sure I'd be aware enough to not get caught in that, but many people are not.

Anyway, after this phone call with no message, coupled with text about returned mail happened to me some months ago, I called Verizon's real customer service number (1-800-922-0204) and spoke to an agent who checked and assured me that, yes, those are both numbers that belong to Verizon, and it's legitimate.  The same thing happened just now, and I told the agent that this is a lousy way to do this, especially without leaving a voice message, and that many people naturally think it's a scam.

Like some others here, the primary account holder (one who pays the bills) on our account only gets bills online, not by mail, and he's quite sure Verizon has his correct address, as they do send some things to him there.  Re. the website it says to go to (verizonwireless.com), that is a correct address for Verizon; if you go to verizon.com and choose the option "wireless," it takes you to verizonwireless.com, so you can either go through the verizon.com site, or go directly to the wireless site, but they are both valid addresses belonging to Verizon.

I suggest calling, web-chatting, or emailing Verizon yourself, to be sure you've reached the real Verizon, and telling them about this, to assure it's not scam calling.  From our experience and experiences of others here, it seems they're often contacting people who do have their correct address on file with Verizon.  That, and the fact that some who've gotten this phone/text notification don't even have Verizon service, makes this look suspicious.  It's annoying, too.  But, unless scammers have managed to spoof things, making it look like they're calling and texting from real numbers when they're not (is that even possible?), this appears to be dumb, but legitimate.

SO, repeating: Everyone please contact executives at Verizon, and urge them to change this practice.  Here's the page with executives and contact forms (no email addresses): http://about.verizon.com/leadership/corporate-executives/

Actually, once you do as you said and choose "wireless," it takes you to the site "verizonwireless.com," so that IS apparently one of Verizon's addresses.  These calls accompanied by text are really annoying, especially since they don't leave a voice message. I'm going to post separately about my experience, but the upshot is that I was assured by agents at the Verizon customer service number that this is, indeed, one of their numbers.

Prank Call
I just got the call and an instant text from: "Free VZW MSG-DO NOT REPLY-- VZW has received returned mail for your address. Please log onto VERIZONWIRELESS.COM to verify or update your billing address. Thank y"

There is no address VERIZONWIRELESS.COM connected with Verizon. If you go to Verizon, you go to verizon.com and once you're on their site, you choose Wireless, Residential or Business.

This is a scam. Ignore and block this number...

It IS Verizon - and in our case it was legitimate, as it was a Verizon customer service representative calling back after having spoken to us re: issues with one of their "hand shake" deals with Comcast - we called Verizon number on our statement, and after many many minutes on hold, back with status of search, then back on hold, she offered to call back as she was going to call Comcast to try to straighten it out and didn't want us to stay on hold again.  She did... on THIS number - but for the fact that she was calling back within the ~ 10 minute time frame she'd promised, we might not have answered, as we don't answer unknown, unidentified numbers as a general practice.  But she (same lady) did call back on THIS number and had an answer for us, and with luck it's resolved the issue we had with their joint promotion.

i got a call from a lady today saying they tried to send me something and it was returned if i could update my billing address.  i told her that i would either go to a verizon store or go online and update it.  as soon as i got off the phone they sent a text message with a link to change my address.  i did not click on that link, but instead went to the official website of verizon and looked on my profile and it had my correct address.  please people do not click on that link that they text you or give any information to them.

Googled the number and this post came up.  Immediately after hitting 'ignore' on my cell phone, I received a text message saying "FREE VZW MSG-DO NOT REPY: VZW has received returned mail for your address.  Please log onto MYVERIZON.COM to verify or update your billing address.  Thank you."  I think it's a scam, since I have paperless billing anyway.

Hey I got a call from Verizon Wireless today (2/3/14) About the change of address. They said they received a return mail. After I hung up with her, cause I was uncomfortable with changing my address wither over the phone, I received a text from Verizon saying the same thing. I logged into my Verizon account and noticed the address they had on file was my old address they grabbed from my ID when I signed up with them. I then corrected it. This call is legit. :-)

I agree totally with you I got a call back on the 3rd of Jan from the Verizon customer service number of 800-922-0204 and it was a scam and I am still trying to get things figured out on here some one fraudulantly added 3 more phones to my bill and called Cuba and the Dominican Republic ran my bill up to over $2,000.00 in just a 7 day period and they have them listed as landlines on my bill now trying to get the proper credit back to me.
