Obviously she means she called it without the area code in 1978.  Whenever they created the distinct area codes for the metro Atlanta area... I think it was late 90's... 455-7141 got the 770 area code.  Maybe it was 404-455-7141 before that, but that would have been irrelevant to a metro Atlanta resident who didn't have to dial the area code, so she may not have even known the area code until she was required to dial 770.

Unfortunately, 770- 455-7141 is no longer a useful tool for those in the Atlanta area who need to know the time and temperature. A Tennessee children's facility apparently lost interest in the service as a useful tool for attracting contributions and clients. Beginning in early 2011 there were lapses in the service and the tapes became scratchy and overused.. One very hot afternoon in mid-summer 2011 the voice informed me the time was 9:23 and the temp 34 degrees. The company who replaced Wares Valley Ranch no longer provides the temperature. The time is provided in hours, minutes, and seconds. The New Yorker voice mispronounces the word 'seconds' as 'seck-ins'. She probably also says 'stummick' and 'lemmin' and 'Lennix' Square. These are the same folk who poke fun at the accent, grammar and pronunciation of native Atlantans.

770 did not exist in 1978

1-770-455-7141 is a time & temperature number for the Atlanta, Georgia Metro Area.  A brief church advertisement followed by temperature and then the current time.  I have called this number for current time and temp since early 1978. 34 years now. Wow!!! I never would have thought it would still be in use today, but it is still working. On the other hand this number does NOT call out. I checked with local directory and this is a inbound "ONLY" Number. So there is no way it called anyone at any time. LOL
