They called and left a message for the person who apparently had my phone number before me (I get a lot of debt collection calls for him), and said they were filing legal action, and that sheriffs were being dispatched to the poor b*****d's residence and place of employment.

When they called the next day I picked up before it went to voicemail and this time they were calling about a different person, or so I thought. I didn't quite hear the name but it wasn't mine or the person they were calling for the day before (whose name I've become quite familiar with). I asked them to repeat the name, so they did, and I said there is nobody here by that name.  I started to say "if this is a debt collection, you have the wrong number" but the caller cut me off.

I don't mean they hung up on me, they just quickly, loudly, and very rudely spoke over top of me. No, "sorry for the inconvenience." They just loudly rushed through their spiel confirming that yes, they were a debt collection agency, and that my number would be removed.

They hung up, and haven't called me back for several weeks now. Bliss.

If you believe they have the wrong number I recommend answering the call and telling them as much, just be prepared for them to be rudely abrupt when you do so. Their objective is to collect on the numerous debts their company has bought, and they do not want to waste time talking to people who don't owe them anything.

Reporting to the do not call registry will not work as they will have a ligimate claim of trying to collect a debit. I was going to have them, but then when the guy came out install, he would not because of ice on roof, so I told then I did not want it anymore and to refund my money.

They've called my father, myself, and my sister-in-law looking for someone with the same name as my father but referencing an address none of my family have ever lived at. They then called me referencing my father's address (assuming they linked the number to the address?). My home number has never been associated with any account other than my home phone bill. I don't know how they associated my sister-in-law to my father since they have no real ties and hate each other. Is it possible they're just looking for anyone connected to anyone who is connected to an account holder's name? Is that even legal? That's the only way I can think of that they got our numbers.

I demanded to speak to a manager, which they ignored. I clarified that none of us are attached to any debt for which they responded that my number had been removed. I'm sick of them harassing family members over something that isn't tied to any of us.

Stupid idiots call, let it ring once, hang up, and then call back immediately.

Nationwide continues to call me 10 times a day despite the fact that I have told them I am not who they are looking for. The person they seek is the opposite sex than me. I have spoken with their office managers and yet they continue to call me!!!!!!!!! Someone needs to stop this I F****NG HATE THIS!

Credit company trying to collect on bogus directv bill. They can sue me for the money.

They also call from 928-303-5937.  I just set them up as a contact in my phone with the name as IGNORE and then set the phone to have them go straight to voice mail, then I'm never bothered.  I haven't used them in a year and don't owe them a dime.

I *am* on the Do Not Call List. I didn't see a link for reporting calls. I owed less than 30 dollars and did attempt to make an arrangement with Direct TV but they refused to give me the length of time I needed to pay off what I owed so I gave up...now I have these morons at Nationwide Credit after me. They haven't called back since June 1st but Im not holding my breath that theyve stopped calling for good.....not yet anyway. We'll see.

Someone just called me from this number and left no message on my voicemail. Does anyone know who this is?

I receive calls from this number day and night.  Even as late as 10:45 at night.  Theyt are really ticking me off.  I'm going to report them to my phone company and the FCC.

Keep getting calls from 770-612-7241 and they never leave messages. Even when I answer, there's nobody on the other end of the line and the call is terminated shorty thereafter. If they're really looking for someone, I wish they'd say so --- they're burning up my minutes - and my patience!

Multiple phone calls. Caller ID only shows Nationwide. I thought it was the insurance company and was going to advise them that I my number is on the DNC list. But, from what I have read here, I now understand that it is Nationwide Credit and not the insurance company. I have answered their call each time, only to be hung up on without a word from this caller. I won't be picking up any more and have blocked this number from calling. A word of advice about call blocking: my AT&T service won't allow blocking of 800 numbers, so it's a pretty worthless add-on service. However, my Panasonic cordless phone system does allow blocking of 30 numbers and will block 800 numbers from calling too. Blocked callers get a busy signal when they call. It's made the home much more quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended - get one if you can! (I do not work for Panasonic; I just couldn't find another phone system, whether V-Tech, Uniden, AT&T, etc, which would block 800 numbers and/or block this many phone numbers.)

If you dont wan to be called just call then give them your number and they will not call you anymore if its the wrong number.  They are debt collectors they dont want to waste their time calling you if you are not the person they are looking for.

Nationwide is a debt collector. They don't leave a message because it is a computer calling and as soon as it detects an answering machine , it hangs up. I like the one that says,"this is a message for John Doe. If you are not John Dow please do not continue to listen to this message. By listening to this message you are saying that you are John Doe,etc,etc. How dumb,the answering machine is picking up!!!

This number just started calling me this week; same story, leaves no message. Thanks to Keith's comment (see below from 09/2009)! I'll be ignoring annoying calls from this number from here on out.
