I received 2 calls from this number.  It sounds like a recording.  The man says that he is calling about a case involving fraud.  That they will be taking this to court unless I call back 770-675-7712 and make a statement.  I have no idea what this is about.  They don't give a name or the name of a company.  I think it is a scam.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Got a call from 970-975-7712 (googled this number - it comes up Crossroads Neighborhood Grille), but I'm supposed to call him back at 970-675-7712.  Some guy just starts rattling about a complaint, a possible prosecution if not called back immediately.  Does identify himself, the company, who he's calling nothing.  Needless to say, I blocked the jerk!!!

I received the same call as every one else. They were persistent calling several times a day a few months ago and then stopped after I cursed them out and told them I knew it was a scam. Now they started calling again and leaving voicemails saying I was involved in an incident (which i wasnt) and if i dont call them back theyll report it to the state district attorneys office. How dumb do they think we are, they dont ask for the name they are calling for or state where they are calling from.

A call from this number left the same message from an unknown person or company about fraud on our reception line where I work. I work for a very large corporation, so if everyone connected to the phone number is going to be prosecuted for fraud, you'll definately see it in the national news.

Reporting calls like this to the attorney general has become a hobby these days. don't fall for these criminal scams.

Received a Call from an unknown person threatening legal action and that someone at our number was connected to a contract that was going to court or something.  It was a recording, even though I answered the phone.  Never named anyone, even the company I work for, or any particular person.   Left know name, just a number that MUST be called.

They called today mentioning the same thing about prosecution if the call isn't returned. It came under the name Charles Butler in Georgia. It has to be a SCAM because first you will be notified by mail and a person instead of machine will contact you. This harassment has to stop and the Do Not Call List does nothing to stop these calls in my area. Anyone has any suggestions, besides not answering?

A man called, left a phone message, and didn't give a name, didn't mention any company he was with, and just demanded to call 770-675-7712 right away or face prosecution. He was totally unprofessional, accusatory and threatening. If he calls one more time, I am going to contact the police and file a complaint. You can't just go around harassing people, treating them so disrespectfully and inappropriately and expect them to call you back!
