I called this number back, which seems to have originated in Georgia.  The person that I spoke to claimed to be representing the United States Department of Education.  They asked me if "XXXX" was the last four digits of my SS#, and I told them no. They then asked if my middle initial was 'X', and I told them no, as none of what they said was correct.  (Must have had the wrong Douglas Lawrence).  The man stated his name, but his accent was so thick that I couldn't get it.  Hope this helps.

They call all day long (8am-9pm) and sometimes hang up when I say hello. They never leave a  message when the call goes into voice mail. In one day they called 10 times. I just got my phone and I don't know the person they are looking for. I've told them they have the wrong number but, they just go on an on so I hang up. I have my number listed on the do not call list and it has been past the 31 days and the calls still come in. I am going to file a complaint. I'm sick of these phone calls.

I just spoke to these crackpots.  I warned that they were harassing my business line.  I am also on the "do not call".  I blocked my number when I called just now but gave my other number (the one that they will not stop calling) and told them they must stop calling us immediately.  OK, so here's the funny thing...this must be a "skip tracing" company.  They are not very willing to give up the nature of their business when asked BUT I already knew that.  I did get the woman to disclose who she was looking for and it was surely NOT me!  She agreed and said it would be entered as a "wrong number".  We'll see how that pans out but definitely had nothing to lose by disclosing just my ph# because they obviously, already had it!  Again, these people seem like "skip tracers" to me.  If anyone is looking for you, if you owe money, haven't made car payments, etc. this might be the reason why.  Hope this helps...

First, and maybe last contact. Recommend anyone having contact with these people call and complain to their State Attorney General Office, and also forward info to their (usually worthless) congressional critters. Oh, they're too busy voting on the biggest spending bill in history they haqvn't even read, 3.1 TRILLION.   You best lay in some: 2 yrs supply of food, garden seed, and some copper/lead/brass parts for your steel.

I wonder if many complaints to ATT might bring them up on the radar?

If you are getting these calls register at "Do Not Call List" https://www.donotcall.gov/ then after 31 days you can file complaint with FCC. Maybe if enough of us do this we will get some action to stop these calls.

This number (770-984-6225) and the guy on the other end of the phone is extremely rude.  I now refuse to take his calls.  I either hang up after punching teh talk button with out even putting the phone to my ear, or let the anwering machine take it.  He has threathened to garnish my wages, yeah, ok, what ever.  If they continue to call, I will punch them into the ATT trap system as well as the other one that called here all the time.  You can contact ATT and have a trap put on your phone, then when the unwanted called calls you, you enter the code they give you and charges will be filed against them.  You can not reverse any charges filed against the caller, so be careful doing so.

I called the company's main number (at least according to their website) 1-800-925-6686. They claimed that if i left them a message they would remove my number from their call list.

The same guy called back a few hours later, and I hung up on him and called the 1-800 number again.  They assured me that they had just taken my number out of the system and the guy calling had probably not gotten the memo yet.

Subject: Student Loans

They are highway robbing students with the MEGA fees and interest they charge for student loans if they are late.

Something HAS to be done to stop this!

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/05/60minutes/main1591583.shtml

http://www.studentloanjustice.org/problem.htm
I have read a few stories and I am completely ENRAGED that what I have learned from this web site!
Sallie Mae's stock is going as high as anyone can imagine, in these truly TOUGH ECONOMIC times. And yet we have allowed the republiCONs to create this problem. We borrow money for our educational benefits, which BENEFIT the nation. Yet those of us who encounter problems, for whatever reason, end up pay at least twice the amount we borrowed. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? . . . EVERYTHING! All of us first have to elect Obama as US President. He is our only hope to try to change this situation which is IMMORAL, ? and simply wrong. They, SALLIE MAE, is taking advantage of American people by making LOTS OF MONEY from people who have encountered financial problems paying their loans. How is it that credit agencies can negotiate a settlement, yet Sallie Mae does not. THIS IS WRONG! So let's vote for Obama. Then let's use this web site to have a STRONG VOICE to fight the lobbyists who are taking advantage of the American people by STEALING over twice what we owe. Reading the stories here tells me that ALL of us want to settle our debts, but with student loans we are caught in a never ending spiral. IT IS TIME TO CHANGE THAT. Vote OBAMA first. Then let's start changing this situation that is affecting more people than we know since many people are in the closet about defaulted loans. THERE IS NO SHAME. The only SHAME are the credit agencies making money out of us. SALLIE MAE should be ashamed. They WILL get their Karma for the harm they are causing America. MAY THE ROT IN HELL! In the meantime, get Obama elected US President and then let's lobby to get protection for this WRONG.

CBE Group

Atlanta, GA 30339
http://www.cbegroup.com/

The FBI has found that a good way to thwart telemarketers or bill collectors (who call you in error time and time again looking for someone who used to have your phone number) is to insist that they are agents of, or being hired by Indonesian Intelligence.

One of our FBI members was receiving errorenous calls by a bill collection agency known as the "CBE Group"  (www.cbegroup.com )immediately after acquiring a new cellular phone number. It seems that the previous assignment of the number was to someone in debt.

After receiving annoying phone calls several times a day from the CBE group (who would not identify who they were or what they wanted...they just insisted on your name and became rude and inconsiderate if you refused to give it) which apparently is a debt collection agency. After advising the CBE group that the party they were looking for was not a party to that phone number, they continued to call at least once, if not several times a day. This continued on for months, costing the subscriber toll charges for the cellular call.

It was time to launch a counter campaign against CBE after repeated requests (given in a polite professional manner) were not responded to. The campaign included inundating the CBE switchboard with calls to their 800 number. At least 10 calls for every one call to the wrong number called by the company. The 800 calls were placed from West Coast numbers to the East Coast to insure the highest call toll for the company.

Now, it is a violation of debt collectors to disclose they are a collection agency to anyone other than the debtor. This means, if they call the wrong number and the person answering the phone asks who they are or what they do, they will reply "We are the CBE group....we do various things for various clients". A response like that is SO suspicious that one can't help but realize they are HIDING SOMETHING.

In line with the paranoids in society, the FBI inundated CBE with calls using various levels of voice disguises and by multiple individuals. All the FBI callers would ask the CBE Group who they were and what they did. When the operator would give the highly suspicious "various things for various clients" speech...the caller would argue with them and absolutely insist that they were agents of Indonesian Intelligence. Since the operator could not give a legitimate explanation of the company's function, it was hard for them to deny with any level of plausibility that they were not Indonesian Intelligence.

After calling at least 50 times or so, word got around the CBE switchboard about the "freaks" who believe they are Indonesian Intelligence. The beauty of it all was the sheer abstractness of it all. Why Indonesian Intelligence? This made the switchboard operators so curious about why "everyone" thought they were "Indonesian Intelligence" they would actually stay on the phone and debate and try to prove they were not. Several times we had multiple operators and supervisors on the line debating with the "paranoid caller" who would become upset and rub in the fact the company STILL won't say what they do. However, without a legitimate explanation of who they really were, they could not help but leave the party on the phone with concrete reasons to be suspicious and not believe that they were in no way affiliated with Indinesian Intelligence.

Eventually the FBI's attorney called CBE in a "recorded  call" to a manager citing the business code sections requiring the company to immediately cease calls to numbers where the subscribers request they stop calling. After presenting proof the company VIOLATED these laws by calling at least 50 times after being asked nicely not to and the potential lawsuit, the calls stopped. However, the "Indonesian Intelligence" accusation remains a good tactic to thwart annoying tele-businesses.

Next time a telemarketer calls, feel free to argue with them the fact that they MUST be Indonesian Intelligence. They will likely become frustrated that they have no proof they are NOT that they will hang up and never call back.

Whoever is behind the calls must be an idiot they cannot provide any legitimate proof to what "company " they are from...They called and stated they where from a collection Agency,Then 1 hr later called with an automated answer thingy saying they were from a banking firm....

Just ignore the calls, block them, and If you do speak to them DO NOT provide them any personal information!

Called claiming they were Equifax asking for financial information including bank accounts and credit card numbers under the pretense that someone had accessed my credit illegally.

FYI -- Equifax DOES NOT CALL to verify anything !!! It is all done through the mail with them or YOU call them but they will still want mail sent from you for any sort of verification.

I notified Equifax of CBE's tatics to gain private information and also notified our local PD.

I asked the caller why my caller ID said "CBE Group" and not Equifax -- they hung up on me after that.
