My mother just had a brand new verizon phone installed. a week later a woman called asking for me.  She told my mother there is a lawsuit against me and that I should contact Robert Epstein.  She also gave her a Case Number.

First if you are not the original creditor you are under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and have an obligation to notify the debtor of the claim allowing them the 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt.  You have 5 days from contact to do so or you have violated the FDCPA.
.
I advise you not to continue burying yourself with threads to your IP location that identifies your Identity.
Ignorance is no excuse for the breaking of the Law.  Purchase paper still has laws and if you quote court action or erroneous cases you may have broken very serious Laws beside FDCPA.

If someone gets calls from someone whom states they refuse to send a letter because they purchased the debt and they do not have a verifiable judgment, I advise you contact your nearest ambulance chaser.  Be very careful what you ask for, speculation of what may or may not have happened and suggest intent can be very dangerous to your Employer and you personally if found that you are extorting monies through deceptive practices.

"If they purchased the loan, they are not obligated to send you a letter" is such a novel defense for violating the FDCPA that I decided to look into it. Downloaded the FDCPA here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf and debt validation is described on pages 11 and 12 reproduced partially here:

"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

I looked in the FDCPA for an exception to validation of purchased debt and found none. The FDCPA does not differentiate between original and purchased debt; collection of all debt must comply with the FDCPA. Unless you can provide contrary evidence, I have to conclude your statement is false.
You also need to see the situation from a debtor's point of view: How does a debtor differentiate between a legitimate debt collector and a scammer? 800notes is rife with reports of scam debt collectors. No legitimate collector would resort to threats of arrest or jail (banned by FDCPA) so any legitimate debt collector who does would naturally be shunned like a scammer. Yes, debtors will lie to evade collection but that in itself does not confer any right on collectors to violate the FDCPA. Debtors should pay up but they should also be treated per the FDCPA and not abused.

If they purchased the loan, they are not obligated to send you a letter. An email was only sent out of courtesy....When you first got the loan, you promised to repay the amount with agreed interest using your checking account as collateral. And when that didnt happen, it became a legal matter because you defrauded these people and now they want to be paid back....It went from a simple promise to a potential legal matter....IN ALL HONESTY, YOU GOT THIS LOAN WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU WASNT GOING TO PAY IT BACK...That is fraud in the simplest of terms.

When you defaulted, interest were accuring every day. So if the balance is higher than the original amount, that is why. you recieved numerous letters from the bank and from a number of collection agencies...when you ignored the letters, this company purchased your debt and now they are attemping to recover your broken promise.

Deal with the calls or pay your bills.....GEEZ!!!!

Sharon.....don't fall for there scare tactics if this was valid debt collection they will take your money orders the reason why they want a debit card so they can steal your monies behind your back don't give them any bank info or credit card info...if you feel you want to pay them only send money orders don't send a check they will then have your account number and routing number and will take your monies..
if they still say they only take debit cards ..then you say okay when you can take money orders then call me back then hang-up,you will see how fast they will call you back and take the money orders.
before you do that ask for validation of the debt if they don't validate then the debt is invalid,,another thing if you haven't made a payment for over seven years you don't have to pay and they cant sue.
Sharon today debt collectors are sleazy they will lie to you and threatening to have you arrested you cannot be arrested for a civil matter the economy is so bad there not making any monies these sleazy debt collectors make about 8.00-10.00 an hour and usually get about 15% percent of what they collect.
let them know that you know the fdcpa law and you know what they probably wont even call you anymore.
one more thing about sleazy debt collectors..
there trained to take control of the phone call and even upset you
you take control of the phone call and upset them..they hate that

Threatening you with "warrants"?
Refusing to validate an alleged debt?
Refusing to accept any other form of payment except a debit card?

Sharon--
You have a slam dunk going as far as violations of the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) goes, and you need to get yourself a good consumer lawyer and sue the you-know-what out of these creeps. If you cannot afford a lawyer, get one through your local legal aid society.

While you are at it, report them to the Federal Trade Commission:

https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

For more on your consumer rights under the FDCPA, go to:

Seems like they are collection agency who just call and threaten people with warrant, sherrif, fake court / case numbers.

It is linked with THE LAW OFFICE OF STANLY WEINBERG and address of 701 Wacker Dr Chicago Ill.60064.

Looks like they just pass your number from one person to another person in their office and they use different names. They are bunch of A** HOLES.
