If you really like to have fun with this type of call, look online for surveys, marketing deals, insurance quote offers etc and input this as your number. If 100 people enter it on 10 forms each they get 1000's of unwanted call backs tying up the number. Also, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are now wasteing some telemarketers time by having them call another telemarketer.

It works best when you give the number to some other outfit that uses an automated dialer, or better yet a blaster campaign caller (think bill collectors). An automated dialer checks to see if the call was answered, and if there was human response (any recorded message is identified as an answering machine). An answered call with no response is usually defaulted to a 4 hour call back pattern, a busy signal gets 15 minutes between calls, and a live human response that was not actionable gets an 8 hour reprieve. So every time you give the offending number to a webpage that inputs it into an automated dialer you can expect it to call it back something like 3 times per day, per entry. (You can see how it doesnt take too many people doing this to wreck a PBX.) It's essencially a denial of service attack, only by telephone rather than internet

Please stop these people from calling my number. I am on the DO Not Call List and it doesn't seem to prevent them from calling. I understand there are many people looking to advertise but this is not going about it in the right way. This is annoying and further more this is wasting my time and theirs. Maybe we should go back to the payphone days and make them pay a dollar for every call they make for harrassing individuals.

Europe has opt-in marketing while we have opt-out marketing. Opt-in means telemarketers have to have your permission to call you in hand before they actually call you. Opt-out means telemarketers can call you at will and it's your responsibility to opt-out. Big business fought tooth and claw for the opt-out system we ended up with so they can telemarket us at will. We are lucky to even have our little DoNotCall Registry because big business fought that as well. If you want to blame someone, blame big business for the $money they pour into lobbying to get what they want and not the Gov. Note that neither opt-in or opt-out will stop abusive telemarketers or scammers because our phone system is an open system -- anyone with a phone can call anyone else in the system, no authentication needed -- and scammers are not known for obeying laws.

"the Government ... makes your number available (without cost) to legitimate companies and scam artist alike" is false. The DoNotCall Registry works on voluntary compliance like speed limit signs on highways. Honest telemarketers honor the Registry, abusive telemarketers and scammers do not and can use a robo-dialer to auto-call every number in the world without needing any numbers from the Registry (as you so claim) or they can simply buy lists of numbers from brokers. Brokers don't care if numbers they sell are on the Registry because it is the telemarketer's responsibility, not the broker's, to comply with DoNotCall.
"They will only work on the legitamate phone numbers that violate the DNC rules, never the spoofed ones because the people investigating are too lazy and stupid" is unwarranted because the Gov only has the spoofed number to work with and CANNOT identify the real caller from the spoofed number (an impossible task). Spoofing can be prevented in real time but the Gov does not own the phone system so it can't implement a fix and all it can try to do is regulate spoofing. The phone companies own the system, have the technology to prevent spoofing but they won't stop it because they'll lose $revenue and will continue fight government regulation like they always have.
So here we are. The Gov has a lot of problems but this is not one of them.

The DNC actually works like this.  You put your phone number on it then the Government that is suppose to protect you and your privacy makes your number available (without cost) to legitimate companies and scam artist alike.  It's an easy and free way for crooks to get working phone numbers. 99% of all recorded phone calls are scams.  When you press 2 or 3 to talk to someone you have just confirmed what time you're home and that the number they dialed is still working. The DNC DOES NOT enforce anything.  They make your complaint available to local and federal authorities, that is if any one of them actually give a crap. They will only work on the legitamate phone numbers that violate the DNC rules, never the spoofed ones because the people investigating are too lazy and stupid.

Major scam seeking money ; no one answers. The pattern is standard and permitted by the weak laws governing such misuse of the public telephone system. They will not stop when asked and operate with bold impunity. They annoy thousands of people with the cover of being an exception of the "do not call" list.

Government oversight and protection is weak at best and seems to encourage the proliferation of these scams. Apparently, money is changing hands to help weaken the law and remove oversight  protection for the public at large. A clear indication of a third world country unfolding where leadership is weak and subject to fiscal forces.

complaining on this forum is useless.  Immediately Google your State's Attorney General website and file a claim against this phone call.  It takes ~5 mins and will hopefully dish a little justice against these thugs that have no morrals.

Don't be lazy.  Take a stand against this crap.

The do not call list works like this.
It is the responsibility of whoever is calling you to check this list before they call you.If you are on that list and they call you then they have already violated the do not call law.
Go on the website and report it. They can be fined up to $11,000

I have received several of these calls.  There is a port tax or something and they probably want a credit card or checking number for their scam.  I guess FCC complaints only work on legitimate businesses and criminal conspiracies are exempt

I received another call from this number on 02/10/12. The people placing these calls are nothing less than NO GOOD, WORTHLESS, SCAMMERS that are looking to steal your money. Recommendation; When given the option, push the correct number to speak to someone and let them know what a worthless piece of s__t they are. Try to make the best of their day.
