I received a call from them this morning. Remembered hearing something on the news about it so decided to look on internet before calling. Thanks for your posting.

8-3-08 6:30 AM pacific. A caller identified himself as someone from an emergency service. He states that there is and accident involving 2 children and 1 adult. He states that my number was given as a contact and Sgt. Baker with the North Las Vegas police department needs me to contact him in the field via this method. When I hang up, he wants me to enter *72 1-312-420-5649 to speak to Sgt. Baker. This is a scam to route calls through your number and bill it to you. This is harassment and interstate fraud that needs to be investigated by the FBI and FCC. It puts undue stress on your family members that believe someone in their family is injured. This caller attempted to call back again at 7:00 AM Pacific collect through AT&T. Refused call. After talking to local law inforcement I was told that this call likely originated from a Jail or Prison in the Chicago area and it happens with much frequency. They received more than 10 reports this week alone. These are only the reported calls. Do not fall for this. Gather as much information as you can. Report it to your law inforcement agencies and attempt to put a stop to this. This is a Federal issue since it involves multiple States and crosses State lines.
