I just deleted them from my phone.  I received the same type of call as described above.  May i make a suggestion, in the future if they call back, write the case number down and post it here (Maybe the last couple of digits).  Lets see if every ones case number are the same.  That would settle this once and for all.

Virtually identical experience as the previous comments submitted by others. Received a robo-call/recorded message quoting the name of Mark Whitfield of CRS and Associates, threatening some some report to be filed to the county within 48 hours in the event that we do not return the call. Phone number on called ID suggested a Chicago number. Supposedly regarding a bank-returned statement...which doesn't exist in reality...and they even quoted some supposed case number. There is no such issue with the bank. This is fraud and not the only one of this kind. It would be nice for the feds to put an end to this nonsense.

I just received one of these calls too. Total scam, if I had a check that was returned my bank would have covered it and notified me in writing. Again, name of Clay Johnson and the mailbox is full so you can't leave a message. Told me I had 55 hours to resolve this.

Received a prerecorded message saying that they were calling about a "returned claim from your bank" and that if I didn't call within 48 hours, it would "result in a complaint to be filed with your county." Incredibly vague.

I called up my bank right away and they confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my account and that they would never do anything like this if there in fact was a returned claim. They said not to call them back and if they did return my call, don't give any identifying information because it's totally a scam.

I received the message also, called back to fine out and the gentleman was very rude.  Told him I work for a law firm and reporting them. He hung up... :(  Shame on them..

I got the same call today again (they called several times before and left voicemails), I just happened to answer the phone and heard the message, so I press 9 to be connected thinking I can just ask them to please take me off their list.  Some guy came on the line answering the phone as "sheriff's office" and I asked him to take me off the list, he was rude and said that this is a legitimate business.  I told him I didn't think so, and everyone is complaining about this prank online anyway.  He said that if I was being nice maybe he would help me.  I got mad and just told him I didn't need his help and hung up.  If it was a real sheriff's office, he would have said his name and rank, wouldn't you think?

I also got the same message from a Mark Whitfield @ CRS Associates with a case# and a message saying you have 24 hrs to return the call or you will be reported to your local county. I called my bank and there is no problem with my account.  Its a shame thaye people try to maake a living scaming hard woirking americans.  Get a life Mark Whitfield and CRS Associates!

received call from crs associates yesterday 11/19/12 - case number 419367.  complete bs....when i called them back @ 7739777338, the voice mail was full.  Since my credit score is over 800, I know I have no financial issues.  I couldn't get the guy's name though.

Just got this same message (11/21/12).  I checked my bank statement and it's fine.  After checking on here, not only am I not calling back, but I'm confiming that my numbers are on the no call lists!

Did any of you that received the phone call also get a letter in the mail demanding money?  I received the letter a few days before I received the phone call.  It says I owe money to Advance America, who I have never done any financial transactions with.

I just called the number back after getting a voicemail on my work cell phone. I spoke with a woman named Lisa Williams, gave her the case number, and she told me they were a mediation firm and looking for someone with a name I hadn't heard before. She said she would have my number removed from their system. She was very professional and helpful. I have been getting increasing numbers of calls for other people. I guess if you don't pay your bills, best to give out someone else's phone number. Legit companies will not bother you again if you are not who they are looking for.

I also received a voice mail from this phone number stating that the company has 48 hours to respond, else they will work through the county on the returned check problem. Then when I called the number, the mail box is full. This is definitely fraud!

Same thing happened to me. But they changed the name to Whitefield. Beware! It's a scam.

I received recorded message saying I had a returned check,48 hours to resolve ect ,ect.I do not have any returned checks and believe its a scam of some kind.Do not intend to call.

these people have called more than once today i hit the 9 and got someone asking to speak to a person named james.  when i said no one by that name lived here and to stop calling they got very nasty telling me they would call as much as they wanted.  I have now reported them.

It is a discussion as to consumers' rights when it comes to the collection of debts.

Well obviously if you actually owe money you have to pay it.  Notice that other posters first checked with their financial institutions to verify whether or not the outstanding debt actually existed. This forum isn't supposed to give you a way to avoid paying your debts.

Receiving calls from this number about a returned item by my bank. There is no such item and my number is also on the do not call list

I also recieved a call the person said his name was Mark (probably fictional) and I needed to resolve the matter in 48 I did not return the call and have no intention of doing so

Just got the same call placed on our answering machine, saying the exact things written in this post.  Don't ever take a call or return a call.  There are so many debt scammer collectors out there.  They are predators

I received a msg from this number from a guy named Mark from CRS Associate. He stated that I have a receint returned check from my bank. I don't even use checks. I don't think anyone does anymore.

I also just got a call from Mark Whitfield, stating that there was a returned item to my bank and that I had 48 hours to resolve this matter, other wise it would be formalized in the county I reside in, left a case #,and said to call back at 773-977-7338.  The sad part of it all is that I do not even have a bank account, so you tell me, how on earth did "my" bank get a returned item.

Guess they these people have nothing better to do, hopefully one day they will be stopped from harassing people.  Maybe we should all just continue to call them and leave them messages and messages and messages.
