I have received a call from this number at least once a week.  I asked to be taken off the list but they continue to call.  I have pressed 1 to talk to someone and mostly they hang up on me when I ask to be taken off the list or if I ask to speak with a Manager.  I did have 1 gentle man tell me he was the manager and his name was Richard Garcia.  He promised to take my number off but yet again I continue to get calls.  He has even been the person to talk to since then and has hung up on me.

Air Miles Canada is calling here 3-6 times per day from an UNKNOWN number saying we have won 260,000 Air Miles Points.

This is done by "Phone spoofing, basically its a program that "Spoofs" the number on your caller I.D. so the originating caller can hide behind the spoofed number and it looks like a local or canadian based phone number. These calls are generally done from overseas (read India and Pakistan) or the U.S.. Phone spoofing is illegal in the U.S. but since canadian politicans have their collective heads up their @$$ it is "legal" here. The autodialers dial multiple #'s at the same time, when it gets a hit it drops all other connections. the only way to stop it is for us all to put some pressure on our M.P.'s to make this phone spoofing practice illegal. What a great way to cheat senior citizens out of their retirement money. looks like all the posters here are canadian...........

This is a SCAM sponsored by CBVCollection company's Vancouver staff in their 'spare time'. This company, though registered as a legitimate collections agency is nothing more than a criminal gang front organisation. The corporate officers have a colourful and lengthy list of convictions for fraud and other monetary crimes. When the staff can no longer contact a live person via their illegal techniques, they turn to this SCAM to inflict arbitrary and punitive measures against whoever innocently owns the number they call. If you respond to this call with anything other than hanging up immediately, you will be charged a premium phone service fee. If you'd like to get back at the staff in some way just respond to this 'contact' page they list and use as much vile language and insulting words as you like. Be careful not to fill in any real information, just make up your own ficticious email domain, et al. Have some fun with this since it MUST be read by their staff AND becomes part of their corporate communications record. Enjoy yourself.

When they believe they have found a trace number for one of their illegally misheld accounts and they can't get satisfaction, they turn this SCAM loose on the number. If you respond with anything besides simply hanging up you will be charged a 'service fee' on your phone account (a.k.a. premium calling service). If you'd like to get a little back on them then just visit this address and leave as rudely worded of a complaint as you want to, they have to read them all and they become part of their corporate records under law. Just be certain to fill in all of the fields with believable, but false information. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY REAL CONTACT INFORMATION!!!

Got a missed call on my cell phone.  Very few people have this number, so I did a 411.ca and whitepages.ca search to find out who it might be.  Not much information there, so I figured it was a solicitation of some sort.  Very annoying to get that crap on your cell phone.

called here today at 4:09 pm   1 778 263 8989, called it back and this number is unavailable, called my cell and my home phone, both numbers are unlisted.

I think you're over reacting. Ever heard of robo-dialing? They start with 555-0001, then go to 0002, then 0003 etc.. no one sold them a list of numbers, they're just dialing sequentially.. or even randomly.. point is, there is no "list", they're just making as many calls as they can for a chance at success.

Generally I've found these calls are from legitamite businesses selling travel vacations / discount vouchers (usually to Mexico, perhaps Caribbean). They way they do it, however is what gets me. No, you HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING. That's the hook. The prize is an overpriced vacation.
If I have time, I prefer to have a laugh at their expense if I can. Several months ago, I sat back for 45 mins and kept stringing someone along.  Even got a callback from a supervisor and a valid phone # to call.
This time, I didn't have enough time. I sort of inferred that they had called into a crime scene and demanded to know why they were calling, what their relationship was with the deceased, .....  WOW, did he suddenly abandon the call.

You are wrong about that....I got a call from this number and am not (nor ever have been) a Rogers customer. Whoever this is, it's a spoofed number (reason why number has not bee assigned). Most likely hoping to score with some real Rogers customers...what do they want???? Probably you would be asked to give a credit card number in order to claim your "prize".

Some BS about an important message from Air Miles Canada. Apparently I'm entitled to 2500 free points. Press 1. Automated message, hangs up if you don't respond within a few seconds. I usually never get these types of calls... will be reporting if this happens again.
