You who say this is a scam are exactly right. Unfortunately, this happened to me four years ago; only difference is the numbers and names. Being Canadian based makes it more difficult for American authorities to track. I was a dummy and cashed the check. Next step is to send it via a Wal mart money gram, (their preference) or  Western Union. Then wait until they confirm receipt of the cash. They are careful to advise you to tell NO ONE, especially whomever you use to send the cash. They will tell you it is too easy for someone else to take it. I too was in dire financial need, having just started to recover from a catastrophic auto accident, . So, I took a chance. It took me awhile to pay back the loan to the bank who cashed the check too. All I can say is go as quickly as you can to the authorities and turn the check and letter over to the local police or sheriffs department. I eventually talked to the people at the company the check was purported to be from. They had the Canadian law enforcement authorities in the region contact me.  At their request, I gave the whole mess then to our local law enforcement personnel to try to do something. The Canadian police told me that it was so rare to catch these crooks that they could say, at least in their jurisdiction, it had never happened, Sorry to all of you and God bless you, I know how you feel if you have lost the money. It could not have hurt me at a worse time. My husband and I were divorcing and life looked about as bad as it could get. All I can say is I did survive. I did eventually get the money paid back and life goes on with new problems to deal with but none like this ever again. If I can say anything, it is DON'T CASH THE CHECK. i just got the same check i want to cash it but thought it was not real so i steel have it in waiting to see if any one cashes theres if its good or not

WOW. MY MOM JUST GOT THE SAME LETTER.. WITH THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER AND LUCKY WINNING NUMBER.. I DONT UNDERSTAND IT VERY MUCH BUT. SHE FELL TO HER KNESS AND STARTED PRAYING AND CRYING AND THANKING. IF THIS IS A SCAM .. I WILL BE VERY UPSECT BECUASE SHE NEEDED THIS.. AND THIS IS NOT A JOKE TO HER..NOR ME

I just received the same letter. When I called the number the man was very rude. I told him that I was going to get my bank to check it out and he said there was no need for bank to check it out just deposit it. When I tried to question him more he said just deposit it and call back, then hung up on me. I went to the bank and they told me to take it to the police.

I got the same letter with the same serial number 5928549 and the same lucky winning numbers 11-25-31-37-49. I called Mr.Jim Martin @1-778-323-3527 when I begin to ask question he became upset about me questioning him about the letter and the check. I did not like his tone. I also think that this Sweepstake is a scam. If you win money you should not have to deposit a check to pay tax you could pay the tax on your money when you file your income tax with the IRS.

I got the exact same letter, serial number, "wnning number's" [sic] and all. This proves it's FAKE.

i recieve the same as you. they wanted me to send money to spain 2 different people and then again today they wanted to send more money today. when i called today he was saying it was for insurance purpose when i started to ask more question he told me not to call again.

I got the same letter,that I'm a 2nd prize winner in the second category of the USA Mega(under the international asweepstake) draw held on April 16th 2010.The serial number 5928549 attached to my name match the first five lucky winning number's 11-25-31-37-49 and subsequently won US $450,000.00 Novatrust Financial services has been assigned by the international sweepstake organization to inform the winner's and pay them off thier winnings.payment will be made by a certified check,which will be delivered by our special courier company.enclosed is a check in the amount of   $4,800.00 US dollars to covered the tax amount $3,750.00. they wnt me to call Jim Martin @1778-318-1445,I think it's true but I try to look at the internet,

I got the same except the bank is Citibank DE

I suspect the scam is that you deposit the check, the bank credits the "money" to your account, you are supposed to Western Union the "taxes" of $3450 and then a week or so later you will be notified that the check was returned as bad and now you owe your bank the money ($3450 + penalties)

i got the same letter and i just called to check on it and they said it was a scam. that the police are invesagating it

I received the exact same letter from Judy of Links Financial Services stating that I had won 2nd prize in the second category of the USA Mega (under the international Sweepstakes) draw held on Sept 25th 2009. The serial number 5128549 attached to my name matched the first five lucky winning numbers 14-25-31-37-19 and subsequently won US $250,000.00.  Links Financial Services had been assigned by the International sweepstake organization to inform all winners and pay them off their money. Payment will be made by a CERTIFIED CHECK, which will be delivered by their special courier company.  Enclosed was a check in the amount of US $4,700.00 which was provided to help pay the taxes.  I deposited the $4,700 check which was from 5th/3rd bank from Walla Walla, WA and I am now waiting to see what happens with the other money.  I am to call Judy tomorrow and I will inform all of you as to what happens.  Thank you, Jo
