The number that constantly calls me is 647-788-4096; different agents call from different numbers; they go through staff rapidly so it is usually a new person calling about every 4 months or thereabouts, they are trained to be aggressive etc.; so let me get this right, a complete stranger is allowed to call me and ask me to identify my personal information before they can continue because of security reasons, I'm not giving personal info to a complete stranger ......isn't that what we are taught - yes I believe so; my account has been paid in full for over 6 months but they are still calling me 3 times a week, there was some mix-up between them and the company that submitted my account, but they won't communicate with each other to get the problem fixed so they just keep calling me; in Ontario they are not allowed to call more than 3 times a week and never on a Sunday; it is also harassment if they continue to call and your account is paid in full and you can go to your local Ombudsman to file a complaint, or get a lawyer, you can threaten them and take action if they continue. When your account is cleared make sure you get a credit report a couple of months later to make sure they aren't still sending incorrect info, if they are you send copies of your payments and the account numbers and the credit bureau can refuse their claims against you. Cheers !

I answer when I receive the calls from these numbers but as soon as I answer they hang up. They call me anywhere from four to six times a day. I do not have any outstanding debt.

I didn't get any phone calls from them, but when I went to apply for a loan, I found out that there was an outstanding debt owing. When I called to find out about it, I found out that although I did owe the money the reason I never heard about it was they had recorded my address wrong (missing one number), so now they want me to pay not only the orginal debt but all of the interest as well. so debt and interest from 2009, the bill was more the triple what it would have been. When I asked them why they hadn't called me, I was informed that obviously I didn't have a home phone. Well I have had the same number and address from the past 9 years.

did you ever get a resolve from these annoying calls?
StopCallingMe 2011-09-23 17:01:04 Debt Collector
CBV is very annoying. First of all I don't owe any money to anyone! They started calling me last year at about 6:45 am everyday for a week with just a message with some crappy music. The next week I finally answered and asked for the name and who they worked for then told them it was illegal to call before 7am and that I would be contacting my lawyer. It actually worked they stopped calling but it only worked for a year. I never did call my lawyer maybe I should have. here is a web page for dealing with collection agencies. http://www.moneyproblems.ca/dealing-with-collection-agencies.htm This may help you get them off you're back for awhile if they are not following the rules. Please list all numbers they call you with so I can block them. I have blocked all numbers above hoping they will run out of numbers.

we keep getting debt collector calls for our son, but he doesn't owe any money. we even spent hours on the phone with telephone company to get proof. then we asked for the collection agency to send us proof, and they said they don't have any, except his name on their computer saying he owes. the offered a deal, but withdrew it when we said without proof, we wouldn't pay. this company also insisted on being paid the money over the phone using our mastercard.
Our son also was threatened by this guy that if he didn't pay, he (debt collector) would call every 5 mnutes till it was paid.
Is this against the law?

These calls are referred to as "cold calls" in the collection industry and they are usually the last known number that is associated with the debtor to whom they are looking. This Agency collects for all the major Banks, credit card company etc and they are EXTREMELLY aggressive! They should identify themselves and advise you of the nature of their calls and when it's confirmed that the party to whom they seek is clearly not at this number - THEN they should POLITELY delete your number! However, such is not the case, they appear to be quite vindictive regardless that you are not the person they seek and they then add your phone number to their "automated" computer list and it calls everyday with that stupid - We Have An Important Financial... blah, blah, blah-- message. It's just plan harassment and Telus should be held accountable to clients that abuse the system with this unprofessional conduct. They should be disconnected and black listed.

I get wierd calls for my brother, I think collection agencies.
A. Harvie 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
This is an emergency call from the CDD Collections Agency
Canaduck 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
I received this call twice in two days...it was an automated message saying something like, "You are being contacted about an important business matter! Please stay on the line." I hung up.
If it is indeed a collection agency, they should have figured out by now that the person who had this number before hasn't had it for 3 1/2 years!! How annoying!
Former CBV IT Employee 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
Yeah, I used to work at CBV Collections as a System/Network Admin. That number was used by the Automatic dialler we used, which I helped setup. Law states that you can either block your number (which most people don't answer on), or you have to use a number that you own - but it doesn't necessarily have to be one that you use, or is connnected. As for why you'd get the 'Please stay on the line', it's because a certain amount of agents are allocated on the dialler, and if they're all on in a call, or otherwise occupied, the callee was placed into a queue.
Annoyed 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
In my case (and apparently many others here) the call did not go into a queue, it just hangs up after repeating the 'important business matter' message 2-3 times. The system you helped set up is busted. Hopefully they fix that crap - I can't believe it's legal at all to make automated calls like this.
FYI regarding the do-not-call list I don't think it will stop calls like this, since they are calling for bill collection, not sales.
Nancy 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
I don't think it's a collection agency - I think it's TD bank. calling from a BC number. When I've picked up a call from that number, I get a call from TD bank trying to sell me services from their central number within about 5 minutes.
Former CBV IT Employee 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
Fair enough. I Haven't worked there for over a year. When I was there, it was working pretty good. The company refuses to pay employees what they're worth (especially the non-revenue generating ones) so in the collections department, the turnover rate was approximately 125%, and the support/IT staff now don't know what they're doing. I stayed there for 2.5 years, chiefly because I was straight out of school, and I worked under an extremely knowledgable guy.
Canaduck (again) 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
I finally waited on the line to talk to someone, and it was indeed a credit collection agency. I politely explained that we'd had this number for 3 1/2 years and that the person they were looking for doesn't live here. (This was last week.)
Since then I've received a call from them at least once a day, but when I pick up to remind them to leave me alone, I get automatically put on hold (like before), but then the line disconnects every time before I get routed to someone!

Thank you Rusty for the following info: "In Vancouver contact Erin Coe on her direct line 604-661-7902"/ I called and had to leave a message and it took a couple of days for Erin to call, but she did and we will be removed from their list within 24 hours. This number kept calling our fax number, so I had no way of trying to respond to them.
By the way, Erin was very pleasant and I have to admit that I was not as our fax and phone have been ringing constantly today - all with telemarketer calls!
Simon 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
it really is a miss understanding if your being called, unless you owe someone money :P , just call erin, i found her very polite and i hope by 224 hours, i'll never see the number again
Mike 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
We have been called once and sometimes twice a day from CBV Collections agency for almost 2 months! If you don't answer, they don't leave a message but they'll continue to call. If you answer, they are usually looking for someone else. We have opened a file with the Better Business Bureau and we have talked directly to someone at CBV collections (operations manager). They said in writing that they removed our name from the list. Not true. We continue to get the calls. Either there is NO communication within this company as to who is doing what or there is a scam going on somewhere. My next step is a lawyer and the media!
jen 2011-06-06 20:57:00 Unknown
how can you block these numbers from calling? they call me 6-8 times a day on my house phone cell phone and work phone...i know i owe money and i pay on time what is asked but come off it...leave me the hell alone...its annoying cause they dont even answer when you pick up the phone....all you hear is breathing and then they hang up...but i dont see how they even know my mobile and work number

HI, 778-329-0347 is definitely a "collection agency"....in this case it's CBV (in Vancouver, B.C.) and they are trying to collect for Koodo(aka Telus) cellphone outstanding bill from an old cell. They have called as late as 8:30pm. They call sporadically a few times a week, then nothing, then a few times a week.
Guess what fcukers?! I'll never answer and never pay!!!!!! :) If I had the $'s I would have paid the damn bill then!
