The caller knew my name and asked to verify my home address.  She said she got my information from the University of Alberta and was calling on behalf of the Alumni Association.  Then she went on to ask if I would make a donation to the Alumni Association and if I would take a survey.  I told her if I wanted to make one I would do it in person at the University Administration Building.  Then I asked her why she was calling me at 8:30pm at night when all the staff clearly wouldn't be working that late.  When I asked her where she was calling from and if I could go down to the Alumni Office she put me on hold.  All I have to say is SCAM artist.  She said her name was Julia.  So don't make any donations.  I even called security Campus and they said that number is not an on-campus phone number!  THEY ARE TRYING TO SCAM YOU.  DO NOT DONATE ANYTHING, IN FACT, HANG UP THE PHONE.

This is a number from a legitimate fundraising program at the U of A.

A young man called my house at 6:30 in the evening. (I too have had numerous calls from this number, but am never home). He asked to speak to my husband, and having already read this, I asked what it was in reference to and he said they were just updating their alumni records. I told him my husband has never gone to U of A, and the caller said he went there in 2003 for art. After a few back and forths of me saying no and him saying yes, he hung up. I really hope they don't call again :(

caller keeps calling 2 or 3 times a day, i called back once and it says the number does not accept phone calls. how do i get this number to stop calling??!??

As a UofA student, I can confirm this is the free phone in the students union building on campus. I've used this phone myself before, and I have had friends call me using this phone. So, if somebody is phoning you asking for money or something like that, it definitely is a scam.

Got a call today, and said calling from U of A. And ask me to update my address, start with my post code, then she figured out the street and asked the street number. Now I feel bad that I actually told her my address. And then she asked for donations. i said no and hang up.

Got a call tonight.  Asking for money.  She knew my name and address, but asked for my email address.  That's a warning sign right there.  If they really were calling from the U of A and knew my address and name I really don't see how they could possibly not have access to my email information.  While I don't doubt that someone calling for a donation for the U of A MIGHT be calling later on in the evening I absolutely don't believe that they'd be calling from a number that came up as "unknown". Pushed pretty hard for a donation, but I said no each time.  She gave up after three tries.

This male idiot is up to something. Called this b*****d back at the same number and an answering machine said that they do not receive incoming calls. Broadcast this scam to all your friends and relatives. Also take note of the number. DO NOT FALL PREY TO THE B*****DS WHO TRY TO SCAM INNOCENT AND LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.

they didnt ask anything personal. Just what kind of services I thought should be provided. And then asked me to rank some  things from a scale from 1-10 on what I would be willing to donate to (i.e. my old faculty? scholarships? bursaries? etc) they never asked for a donation or anything else

My guess is they are legit since they are a 492 number, but when googling it I just got this webpage. So - answer on your own risk, but I see no harm

i have gotten called a couple times by this number - i work for the UofA and have emailed the Telecom people to let them know...they will be able to figure out who is paying for the phone line and hopefully put a stop to it

I got a call today from this number several times.  No message was ever left.

They called and left a message from the U of A something or other, the message was for someone who doesn't live here.

Have been receiving calls from this number once a week for 3 weeks at 6:30, then 7:30, now 8:30, they do not leave a message, I answered once but there was no one there.

It was a woman, and tolled me that they don't have my mark for a math course. I called the U of A ofiice of registarer to varify, but they had the mark ....

A person from this number called my elderly mother and asked for my home phone number, which my mother unfortunately released. Given the information I have I suspect the caller is soliciting donations from University of Alberta alumni.

Received phone call from 780-492-9907. Person calls repeatedly but does not leave a message. Called number back but line does not accept incoming calls.

I recieved at least 5 calls from this number on my cell phone in the last week or so according to my history (which records the last 60 calls). On at least 1 occasion, I was not availale to answer the call and no message was left. In most instances, when I opened the handset to answer, the party on the other end hangs up. In the brief period when the connection was still live, I could some back ground noise (which I thought might be a call center). On one occasion a female (perhaps foreign)asked to speak to myself, addressing my name as it would be on my voice message.  When attempting to call the number a reply 'this number does not accept in-coming calls' is recieved.

A young lady from this number called my house today, asking for my husband by his correct name. When I told her he's at work, she said that's ok and did NOT want to leave a message

Someone from this number called my house twice today. The first time I didn't answer, and no message was left.
The next time a woman with an accent asked to speak to Jennifer Canada, my sister's name is Jennifer but our last name is not Canada. I repeated the name and she confirmed that was who she wanted to talk to so I told her no one by that name lives here.

A woman asked for my room mate by a poor pronunciation of his name. Then asked for alternate numbers to contact him. I didn't ask who they were.

called three times within pieriod of 1 week nothing when i pick up and when calling back says dose not accept incoming calls

It is the phone that is in the Students Union Building at the UofA that students can use for free
