Got a new phone number just under a month ago. Kinda surprised it took this long to get a telemarketing call. I got them on my new landline almost immediately. Dealt with this crap with my old cell phone number.
Best thing to do is put yourself on the Do Not Call registry...cell phones too. You will probably still get calls for the first month since it officially takes 31 days to be legit and get your numbers off the call lists. In the meantime, don't answer the calls. If they get a live person to answer, they will continue to call back. If you get calls after the 31 days on the list, you can report them on the site. Chances are they are not REAL telemarketers though. Many are scammers who managed to get their hands on a list of numbers and are trying to get people's info for identity theft or just sucker them into paying for a service or debt that is not real. Keep in mind that debt collectors are exempt from the Do Not Call registry. ALWAYS DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Especially if the "debt collector" threatens you in any way. Also, know what is on your credit report at all times. If someone calls saying you owe a debt on an old credit card that you have never even had, check your report. If it is not on your report, they are trying to scam you out of money. NEVER GIVE ANY CALLER ANY PERSONAL INFO! If they are a legit collector they will not ask you for your full SSN, just the last 4 digits to confirm your identity.
Block the numbers or do like "business user of cell" said below. Their suggestion is a good way to keep your block list clear if you get a lot of calls since you are only allowed to block so many. Time Warner is 30 numbers and Sprint is 50 numbers. Total pain in the butt but sadly, this is what the world has come to and it is now a necessary evil.

When I answer and they ask for the owner, I ask them--which one, Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck? They get the message and hang up. When caller ID identifies them as Tax Relief News and I don't feel like answering, I let them talk to the fax machine.

This is all bs just realize that the white construction worker is an idiot and loves to heat up things this makes him a moron low life idiot. You will find a lot of different #s calling us through out the year from many low life foreigners scamming money etc... Because our national security sucks. We just have to deal with it and hang up on these low life's.

I don't understand why the phone companies are allowed to let these a-holes spoof their phone numbers. I think we need to start contacting our Attorney General and Governor's offices to complain about spoofed numbers; maybe even your Congressman. The FCC doesn't allow spoofing if will cause harm but rude, obnoxious sales people stress me out so that would cause me harm. This crap is offered online and needs to be outlawed. If anyone has to spoof their number, they are obviously up to no good.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!

they've called enough to be annoying but never left a message. I installed Mister Number on my SII and it blocked them today - I'm almost giddy to find an app that will do it. The only down side is that it (the app) wants to log the call and notify me LOL I.E. more wasted time reading the log.

Get a call at least once a month from this number. Been going on for almost a year. Added to the reject list on the first call. Robo dialer doesn't know when to quit.

I've reported this number to the FTC Do Not Call complaints. This is easy to do online on the FTC site. Everyone should do it, takes about 5 minutes. Companies are required to check local and federal Do Not Call registries and if your number shows up, then they should not call. However, companies like this number for Tax Relief News apparently aren't bothering to check the registries before calling and that could cost them up to $16,000 in fines. So report these people to the FTC!!!!

There are several ways to essentially block a call to your cell phone. If you have a regular cell phone (i.e. not a smart phone), then what I do is save the number as a Contact with the name of something like Tel 01. Then I set the ring tone to Silent for that contact. Since most phones will hold 4-6 phone numbers per Contact, you can save a number of known telemarketers? numbers that way (Tel 01, Tel 02, Tel 03, etc.). I had saved 100s of telemarketers numbers in extensive lists that way (after they call, the number gets added to my contact list). So when they call, I wouldn't even be bothered except to see their name in the call list.
On my Android SmartPhone, I take it a step further (i.e save the numbers as contacts with 8-12 numbers per contact), by forwarding that Contact directly to voicemail. That way I?m not disturbed by their call and if they wish to leave a voicemail, they can do so and I can delete the recorded messages. On my Droid: View Contact > Options > Incoming calls send directly to voicemail checkbox.
The Droid doesn?t have a native Silent or No Ring, so sending directly to voicemail is required. You can likely program a silent ringtone by sending yourself one and saving it to your list, but that is beyond the scope of this Reply.
