Just had a call from Geeks for PC. I could barely understand what this man was trying to tell me. Something about Microsoft contacted them to fix my issues. I needed to press the "flag (microsoft) key" and "r" key to display the run box so he could access my computer. Oh sure, would you like my social security and credit card numbers too?!?!

This is wrong in so many ways. I feel sad for folks who may fall for this scam.

My husband received a call from a guy named Abby about 5 minutes ago who told my husband "they" were receiving signals from my computer and that it was under attack and that if he could go to the computer, "Abby" would direct him to a website and they would be able to prevent the virus attack on my computer.  Husband told Abby he knew nothing about the computers, Abby asked when they could call back and when my husband told him I was not going to be home until very late tonight and leaving the mainland tomorrow - could he get a number for me to call, after some hesitation, Abby provided the number of 786-752-3149.

Thank Goodness my husband (who is entirely computer illiterate) had the sense to call me at work and tell me about the phone call.

This is definately a scan - my computer's turned off, I not only have McAfee, Carbonite, Spy No More, PC Mechanic - any of those would have detected something last night if this were true.

The one thing that threw my husband "off" is that I've had several calls over the last few weeks with Dell geek guys while reinstalling some software and upgrading my RAM memory, and he said this fellow had an accent just like the Dell guys.

Just got a call from Adam... who later put Michael on the phone. Caller claimed to be Microsoft Certified. He claimed my computer was generating a lot of errors and that my security system was being bypassed. I asked him what was the name of the computer that was generating the errors. He said he wasn't supposed to give that info over the phone. I asked how I was supposed to know which computer was generating the errors because I have 4 computers in the house. Then he asked if I access the internet through broadband, which I answered yes. Then he said, it doesn't matter the computer name because if one of them is generating the error message then all of the computers are affected because it is the broadband security that is being bypassed. He asked me several times if I had Internet Explorer and wanted me to open it. He said he wanted to run a program that would allow him to remotely access my desktop. I asked him how much this was going to cost me. At that point he put someone else on the phone. I asked again how much this would cost and was told it would cost nothing and that they were just trying to help me fix my computer. When I asked him where all of this was being reported, he said it was being reported to Microsoft. I asked him if he worked for Microsoft and he said no that he worked for Geeks for PC. I asked him why he was calling me instead of Microsoft and how he got my phone number. He gave me the impression that he got my cell phone number from Microsoft's website or from an online Microsoft database. I asked him what he wanted me to do. He instructed me to look at the event logs on my computer. He told me to look for errors and warnings. When I looked at my event log, I saw that I had a few errors and warnings, but nothing that looked like it would warrant a phone call or claim that my computer was being compromised. At that point I asked him for his name and employee number and stated that I was going to call Microsoft to verify that his company had been contracted to provide technical support. He asked me to hold and I waited for a few minutes. He came back on the line and I asked him for his employee number again. He tried to give me his phone number, I said no, this should not be this hard and ended the call.

Same as above.  My guy called himself Allen.  Did not want to leave a phone number but I finally got it.  He was fun to play with but I am concerned for those who fall for this ^&*(%.

Yep, I got the same call.  A company called "GeeksForPC" (Indian voice, from a call center judging by all the noise in the background). Apparently those nice guys at Microsoft told them to call me to sort out some PC issues I was having! LOL. I toyed with him for a while, letting him guide me to my PC's Event Viewer... "See those errors sir? That's what Microsoft want me to fix for you... let me remote desktop into your PC"! Are you NUTS?!! I asked him if anyone had ever actually fallen for this scam before. BE AWARE!!!

Got call from Asian named Peter who said Microsoft reports showed my computer had likely been hacked.  Very poor English.  I asked what country he was calling from since it came up Private Caller. He didn't respond.  His English was so poor I told him I couldn't understand him so he offered to have a supervisor call me back.  10 mins later, another Asian named Adam called and said he was a Senior Technician and an Microsoft professional and wanted to fix my pc. I asked him who was going to pay for it, or was it free.  No response from Adam.  Then he gave me his phone number and said to call back in an hour to verify he was at that number and he could help me fix my pc.  I asked what city/state he was in and he said New York.  But the number appears to be Florida.  What number would my calling him back in an hour make?  Why couldn't we hang up and me call him back right away.  It all smells worse than dead fish.  Then my phone rang again and it was another Asian who asked for someone not at this number, and then he hung up.  The number he called from was 746-0924 and it showed up as Unknown Name.  Scam, scam, scam.

Received a call saying he was from GeeksforPC.com.  Supposedly they had been receiving "error" messages from my computer.  My computer is working fine.  I think it's some kind of scam.
