I keep getting these calls too and they are obviously a scam, the best thing to do when you answer the phone is to just sound confused and tell them that you don't actually own a computer, they soon hang up.

I'm a Mac user too.
I had a bit of a laugh with them when they asked me to press the Windows key on my keyboard.  I responded  - 'I don't have one'....silence from the other end.  After he had repeated the question 6 times, he put his supervisor on who finally guessed I was on a Mac.  Brightened my morning.

I received a call from the above number and an Indian voice, purporting to be from Windows Support said I had a lot of unwanted viruses on my machine.   I did do as he said until he said he wanted money to sort it out.   He then became very short with me and told me his name was Mike Alfred.   I told him to put my machine back to normal, which, hopefully he did.   I then reported this to my computer engineer, who advised me this was a scam and to report it to you.

Yes, it's a scam.

If you've run AMMYY Admin whilst on the call and provided the ID displayed, then you're in for a treat as you're taken through a comprehensive list of 'dangerous threats that will destroy your computer and everyone you love with it'.  Ok, so that was a slight exaggeration.

Best bet is to get off the call, exit the AMMYY Admin service and then run some legit anti-virus/anti-malware tools just to be sure.

If you haven't any installed already, then you can get everything you need for free:  Get AVG Free, Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE Personal.  Don't trust me on any of this then check them out on Google or whatever your chosen browser happens to be first.  There are alternatives, these are just the ones I would use myself.

Best of luck and keep your system safe!

I received a call from a person today claiming that he was from windows support saying that my computer had been sending e mails to windows support due to errors on my computer he started to go through a process with me to show these errors I was uncomfortable with this process and asked how I would correct these errors and if there was a cost involved  He said that he would clear the faults if he could without cost I was concerned that this might be a scam so I told him i was going to log off .which i did and shut down my computer and ended the call. He phoned me right away and tried to get me to proceed with the process ,  I fobbed him off and told him to call at a later date'

Yesterday an Indian man named Joe called me from "Windows Support Centre" saying my computer was sending them error messages which means it had multiple viruses.  I asked him to call back when my daughter was home as she is better with computers than me, that was a mistake as he then knew I wasn't too sure what I was doing so within 3 minutes he phoned back and was quite aggresive insisting that my computer was about to crash and send viruses to all my friends! Luckily my daughter came home in time to take over and when she asked relevant questions he hung up.  The cheek of these people he only rang me again this morning I told him that I wouldn't speak to him, said I'd checked on line and found it was a scam and that I had informed the police! Funnily enough he hung up. Yesterday my caller ID showed this number 02078032017 today it just said International.

Similar actions as per Heather on 22 Jan 2011.

However I gave my ID no. and they said that I needed new virus software for £60 for 3years initially then 5 10 & 12 years.

They then asked my CC details which I declined and said this was a scam!

The conversation then ended.

just had a phonecall from guy saying he was from  windows support group  to say that my computer had been sending error messages for the last couple of days and that I had a virus in my computer not controlled by my antiviral software and he would help me to remove it by telling me to go on my computer whilst still on the phone to him  and he would tell me what to do to remove it .On request he gave his name as Lee Murphy and a tel no 800 206 1133. throughout the call i was very suspicious and so did not agree but just said i'd get back him to fob him off in the meantime! looked this company up on the inet and found many similar entries from people involving so called 'windows support group' but with a different number to this one.

i just received a call from a George from Windows Support. Claiming that my pc had send varius errors to windows.  He claimed that i was a registered windows user, and therefore he was receiving these reports and now he wanted to help me.  He said that the reports were happening due to various "hidden" viruses.
The first thing that struck me as suspicious was that he did not ask my name, or confirm any of my details.  He just said that he was legitamately from Windows support and that he wanted to help me.  I kept on asking him for his telephone number so that i could call him back, which is when he gave me this number.  He said that i was welcome to check them out, and to check "Windows Support Info".  He would be happy to call me back.  When i didnt comply, he got a bit annoyed and asked if i didnt trust him.  I just said that i was reluctant to trust someone who couldnt confirm who i was, what pc i use, and any reference number that i may be linked to in the event of me calling back.  At this point he just said well he cant help me if i didnt want help, and good bye!..  Well, a scam if ever i've heard one.  He sounded like he was calling from a busy call center, and he was an Indian man, it was a bit tricky to communicate clearly.  I would suggest no one does what they ask..

Definitely nonsense. No one from Microsoft or any other support group would call out of the blue and be unable to give any reference number or proof of who they are. Just received a call identical to the ones above. Indian sounding guys said I had errors on my PC and would be able to help me if I just did what he instructed me to do on the phone. Told him to not be so ridiculous and hung up. Considering reporting him. Do not speak to these people!

I've had a similar call from a Peter Dawson who I didn't trust one inch. The Indian sub-continent seems to be full of people trying out scams on us lot. He didn't get as far as asking for money because I told him I did not wish to continue. I have, however, had many nuisance phone calls from Indian-sounding men, followed by another from a guy who offered to put me on a list of people immune from further nuisance calls in exchange for money. They are giving India a bad name
