They left a message on my answering machine stating they were from the county recorders office and that I qualify for 3.35% 30 fixed. They left the number 800-210-4789. When I called the number, the guy sound like he was high. He couldn't answer any of my question and the dude was slurring his words. I asked him how he got my number and how did he know who I was and where I lived. He said he didn't know and that the information was from some internet survey. He said he was from Canada and he was just an answering service and that he would have a representative call me back. He state he had representatives in Irvine California. I think its a scam!

Cross referencing

I never answer calls from the number but receive voicemails. Call is from a man at Intercounty Records Department saying that were reviewing properties in the area and that my property would qualify for Intercounty's 3.25% 30 year program and that I should call back because I was preapproved. Call back number given as 800 210 4789 but showed up as 269 768 2370. This happens about once or twice a month, I own no property.

We have been receiving these "cory calls" for years where I work, sometimes his name and their company name even changes. Of course it is a scam, they appear to be overseas operation, but also appear to operate mainly in CA and Las Vegas. No way to punish a crook you cant catch, just hang up..sometimes i wait for the "representative" to come on and blow very loud whistle in ear just for fun..

Janet from County Records Research Department stating I qualify for a 1% 30 year loan program
| Joey 2008-04-02 11:24:55 Unknown |
This a loan modification scam out of florida. They wanted me to send 300.00 dollars to get started on the paper work.
I spoke with some friends in the buisness and they said NEVER pay ANY fees upfront. And if they demand it, then it's a SCAM.

Recorded msg, calling several times a day, using different male voices and names. Every call on ID uses a different phone # and every msg gives a different # to call. Msg always states it is "imperative" that I call back. This is a new cell # for me, started receiving calls day after I got.

Got called on my cellular, which I believe is against the law.
Caller ID showed 269-768-2370. Message was truncated but said something about a "5% loan", call back to 1800-2108-4789.

I get the same call, same pitch, same "inter county" blah blah tired old pitch voicemail from them.
I thought it was illegal for an unattended "autodialer" to call people up. From what I remember, the autodialer could make the call, but announce how to get a real person within two seconds.
Can someone find out more, and take legal action against these Morons?

As reported by others, a similar experience. This company somehow has obtained listings from internet inquiries for individuals who have queried refinancing of a mortgage. My guess it is linked to Lending Tree or a similar type company that uses the Internet with some frequency. They likely make more money from selling the list that financing mortgages.

I've received about 5 of these calls in 2 days, all leaving messages on
the voice mail. Frank from the "Inter county records dept" re: my property being eligible for a 3.25% 30yr mortgage...stating, "it's imperative that I
speak with you as soon as possible. Please call back, toll free, at 1-800-210-4789". However, on the caller ID they come up as "Channel Docs"
with a number of 1-702-520-1100...SCAM!! I'm in a small town on the east coast of MA, so obviously they are making the rounds!!

Got exactly the same call.
My question: Why is it dangerous to give them information about the current balance?

These were the details on my caller ID from the above calls.

I received the exact same message from "Frank". I tried calling the number after looking at this site because I know better then to just trust someone. The first time I called a guy answered saying Financial Services. When I asked him to repeat what he said he said the same thing again and then said that they were a debt consolidation company helping people with more then 10000.00 in debt. I told him I dialed the wrong number and hung up. I called back a second time and a girl answered by the name of "Tabitha". She said they were debt services. I said "Oh, well I thought this was the number to call about a pre-approval loan offer and then she said "Oh yeah, we do refinances too". So I asked if there was someone I could speak with in the loan department and she said sure, I just need your name, property address, and your mortgage balance and I can get you to someone in that area. I told her that I didn't have that information with me, but I would like to speak to Frank since he had already called me. She told me that she would first need my information to get me the officer in my area. I again stated that Frank already called me so I would like to speak to him. She then told me that she didn't know how to get ahold of him but she could have him call me since she now has my phone number. Now, if she can't get ahold of him, then how can she have him call me? Sounds a little phishy to me. Sounds really phishy to me.

I received the same call today. I called them back they asked for my address, I gave it to them since it is a public record anyway, then he asked me how much I owed and I told him that I wasn't going to give him any personal information. He replied 'I just need that one piece of information so I can transfer you to the loan agent'. I said asked where he was calling from and he said 'Canada'. I asked what company he was with and first he said HKVM Mortgage and the 2nd time I asked he said 'Debt Relief'. I told him that I was sure it was a scam and he said 'okay' and quickly hung up.

I received the exact same phone call like in Cali AG's post. But the difference is, when I called to get their company name, salesperson name, and address, they just hung up. Then after about the 3rd time, they disconnected the phone (get a busy signal).
For anybody that gives out their personal info to scum like this, you almost deserve to be taught a lesson. Call them back at your own discretion!

Taped message from Frank stating that my property in Sacramento County qualifies for a 3.25% 30-year fixed loan. If rates were this low my current mortgage holder would have made the offer already.

Received the exact same call as Dave from St. Claire Shores
"This is Frank calling with the Inter-County records department. Uh, after reviewing properties in your area from what I can see here, uh, looks like your property would qualify for the Inter-County 3.25% 30-year loan program. Uh, so it is imperative that I speak with you though, uh, regarding your pre-approval. Call me back when you get this at 1 800 210 4789. Once again call me back at 1 800 210 4789. I'll talk to you soon."
I called the Toll Free number and a young girl names "Michelle" answered the phone, "Mortgage Services"...
I asked to for more information regarding the IntraCounty deal they offered and she asked my name, so I gave her my name, Anthony Gonzalez...she asked me for my property address and value.
I asked if I could find out the "terms" of the 3.25% loan (it's an adjustable rate mortgage), however she said that she doesn't know the terms, the loan officer would answer those questions. But she would not transfer to me to one without my information.
I asked if she could transfer me to the loan officer so I could ask questions about the loan offer and I would provide my "confidential" information to the loan officer.
Michelle began to get huffy with me by saying that she is not asking for confidential information, she is only asking for my property address and value, then she would transfer my call. She said she is part of a call center called "HKVM" and she would transfer my call to "First Mortgage" or if no one was available there, she would transfer it to "Universal Mortgage".
I asked again if she could provide me the MARGIN and INDEX regarding the 3.25% mortgage and she said she does not know the specifics of the loan program. She said she needs to collect my information so the loan officer will have it at their fingertips when they are ready to take my call. She said it was redundant for the loan officer to type in my information and ask me these questions when she is there to do that, thats what she gets paid for, she said.
I apologized and stated that I may have made a mistake in calling and she promptly hung up on me.

Caller was "Frank" from Intercounty Records Dept. Call back number was indicated as 1-800-210-4789. Caller ID was "out of area". Same message about 1.5% 30 year fixed loan. Obvious scam to me. I get at least a half dozen a week from various mortgage companies. I live in Southern California. White collar crime capital of the world.
