Got a call from a Marlene at AP&G about a supposed rebate for National Grid for my church. They used information that was out of date, wanting either are former pastor, or the treasurer. I have told various reps like this that any changes to the bill must be made by the church council, and at this time they have no plans to change current billing, please take us of your list. In 3 months I have recieved 13 calls from them, I guess the church is lucky no one is in the building during the week to recieve the calls. They could at least check on-line for the name of our current pastor, because he doesn't like being called a she. I just can't get them to stop calling so currently, I just keep deleting their messages. Rick:)

Be careful as this sounds like a scam!  If you gave any personal information like a credit card number or account number, they are phishing.

The caller claimed that her company represented Con Ed, our local power company, and she promised to arrange rebates on our bill. Sensing a scam, I told her that no way, not at all am I interested and hung up. She called back, repeated the pitch, and left a call-back extension (x4405) but no name.

One other tip PPL does give the supply company your account information.  To prevent this you must place your account in a private status so PPL does not give your information to them.  I have done this but believe it should have never been released in the first place.

Received a call from 484-550-7918 and was told to return call to 1-800-210-9011 ext 4405 for Anita.  Anita stated she was calling on behalf of PPL which turned out to be a lie after I contacted PPL.  This is a supply company trying to slam people by offering a small rebate and then watch your bill grow due to a variable rate vs a fixed rate.  I have no issues that they called however when I advised I was not interested she continued to push.  After 3 times of asking to have my information removed from their system and to not call again I had to hang up because she still continued with her sales pitch even though I was not interested.  PPL has received many complaints regarding this company.  Beware!

American Power & gas Ripped me off
In November 2013 we were sent a list of alternate electric suppliers from PPL in N.E. Penna.
We chose American Power & Gas who offered a "come on" price of approx 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour for first month then told us the price would change BUT NEVER BE HIGHER THAN WHATEVER PPL was charging which was at the time approx 8 3/4 cents per KH.
We went for it saving approx 20% in first month.
In 2nd month American Power more than doubled their price to almost 16 cents per KH while PPL stayed at 8 3/4 cents.
When I called to complain, they denied anyone had told me cost would not exceed PPL's after mistaking me for new customer and having told me that again and seemed shocked when I said it did not happen because my KH charge was almost double what PPL's was.
Then they told me there was special circumstances and thats why I was charged more. I fired them that day but could not rid myself of them until the next meter reading between feb 16 & 21.
My next bill from PPl showed my cost per KH went up another 55% to .22 cents per KH.
These are desperate rip off pigs who will do or say anything to steal an extra $100 -200 of our money and should not be listed by legit companies such as PPL as alternative suppliers.
They count on customers not checking their bills, I checked mine and am totally disgusted with the likes of American Power & gas.

Claimed to be from American Electric Power calling "on behalf of Duquesne Light." (800-210-9011 x2078 Tammy Handler). On call back, only ID is "Customer Service Center."

If they are legit, why do I have to give them our complete account number? Might have legit energy product to offer, but won't deal with people who misrepresent themselves. Also, this is 4th call in a week...

Called from 570-301-6044, left this callback number on a message. Caller said her name was Ashley from American Power and Gas in regards to our utility bill and rebate check, and that we need to call back today with a copy of our PP&L bill in hand.

Clearly a deceptive use of creative wording to try to make a sales pitch for electric service.

Yeah, it's a telemarketer trying to get you to change your electric supplier (gas, too, based on the other comments). Ever since deregulation, there are a bunch of these smarmy companies popping up reselling electricity to make a fast buck. Here's a hint - if they're telemarketing you, they don't want to save you money, they want to take it. If you're smart, you'll check your state PUC website and find a _reputable_ supplier, one who doesn't require a lengthy contract, bribe you with bogus rebates while pumping up the kwh cost, and other underhanded tricks. Oh, yeah, and complain about the telemarketing to your service provider, who can remove you from (at least some of) these annoying lists.

I got a _much_ lower kwh rate by going with a company with a month-to-month contract - one who doesn't telemarket and annoy people. You can, too.

Any legitimate company that calls a place of business, organization, etc. should have no problem leaving a telephone message with a receptionist that includes their company name, the name of the individual calling, and the purpose of the telephone call.

If I don't have this information, you have no credibility and will not receive a return call. That is simply common sense and good business practice.

You guys are all uneducated and dont even know it. You think its a sales call when its really not.. yoh arent buying anything and they dont represent themselves as the utility.. they say "my name is such and such calling ABOUT the ConEd or whatever utility you have." Its a savings program. They take five percent off what you pay and also send you a check every twelve months. They never asked for a cc from me. There were no hidden fees or even cancellation fees. They even have a green option now.. which helps save our earth from global warming. The young lady i spoke to was great.. she made rhings 100% clear and explained what i was doing and verified what was said before i authorized it. It actually is a wonderful esco so far. If ypu look on your bill, you'll see where it says you can chooseee a provider.

Got a voice message from Mrs. Rodriguez from "AP&G" calling about our National Grid accounts.  Wants a call back today at extension 4493....I don't think so! They're probably trying to convince us to buy our energy supply from them.  I wish companies would stop being so annoying...if we were interested in switching, we'd be researching companies and making the calls ourselves!

"Stacy King" at ext. 4443 called looking for the person that can make decisions on our Rochester Gas & Electric bill at our non profit agency.  I am the Executive Assistant and asked if I could take a message as the person they were looking for was unavailable at the time.  "Stacy" gave me the toll free number, her extension and her name.  When I asked what it was in reference to, she just said our Rochester Gas & Electric bill and when I asked if she was from RG&E, she just said "it's for a rebate on your bill" and hung up on me without answering my question.  This is not the first call we have received from these people and I can absolutely guarantee that our agency will not do business with whoever this is simply because they were so evasive and rude.  If they do ever manage to reach my boss, I can guarantee that they will be told that we are not interested since my boss will not deal with evasive sales people.

A *hint* to any of the telemarketers that work for this company that may be reading this (from someone who used to work for a telemarketing company):

If you actually want to sell your product or service - don't be rude or evasive with the "gatekeeper" and if you are asked a question, don't ignore or sidestep the question because it doesn't do anything besides make you and the company you are representing appear "shady".  Simply call and be upfront and honest.  If you can't do that, then people aren't going to want to buy from you or the company that you're representing.  (

You cant change from Delmarva even if you wanted to. The company that contacted you was most likely a "supplier". Delmarva created and has many authorized "suppliers" you can choose from.

Each of these companies go out and shop around for energy to get good prices. There are many different authorized suppliers you can choose from that have different prices. It's up to the consumer (you) to choose which one.

(legally Delmarva is NOT allowed to get better prices on your energy because of a law that was passed so that is why they created program and make suppliers available).

So this person who was calling you was just one of these suppliers soliciting their offer in you're territory.

It's supposed to be a good thing to help you keep the cost of your bill down but a lot of people are not aware of this program that has been around for years in many states.

Maria - they leave a message rather than speak with you directly in an attempt to bypass FTC regulation.  Should a potential "customer" initiate a call certain rules do not apply.  I intentionally just picked up on one of these scammers leaving me a voice mail.  I allowed her to go on her spiel for six minutes and then asked her if the call was being recorded.  She confirmed it was, stumbling it was for quality assurance purposes.  I then referenced FTC regulations, which clearly state announcement the call is being recorded must occur immediately and/or an audible indicating the call is being recorded must play.  Such fun listening to her stumble trying to recover from that one.

They are further violating policies regarding sales approaches which are either misleading or deceiving.

Folks, don't waste your time calling these clowns back.   Rather, pick up the phone if you can and if they lie about their company name, that it's not a sales call or don't tell you it's recorded, file a complaint with the FTC.  Link is below.
